Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) Crawlspace is in my top 2 'nearly made me vom' books.

Cannibalism just 'gets' me. Yuck.

The original draft had several pages that went into much greater detail about Tom's adventures with the "other, other" white meat. I decided to scrap it to make the story more tasteful (pun intended).
Good thing, or else it sounds like you might have ruined your Kindle.

Grammar*Kitten (grammarkitten) (awful brilliant puns)

Yes, thank god the worst thing I have ever actually managed to do to my Kindle was to sneeze on it - though that wasn't book induced!

Cobwebs-Iced-Across-SpaceTime (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 0 comments I think you would not like Kealan Patrick Burke's KIN then. I have yet to read Crawlspace, hope it doesn't scare me as much as the 50's movie of same name.;)

Just wanted to take the time to drop in and give a big shout out to Evans Light for giving me the opportunity to read Screamscapes and offer my humble opinion on the book. It is a collection of Evan's short stories and novellas and it is great. If you don't like one story - no worries; there are plenty more. I did enjoy nearly all of the writing in this book. My favorites were Crawlspace, ArborEATum, The Mole People Beneath the City, and Curtains for Love. There was only one short story that I didn't like. The release date of this book is early June. Thanks again Evans and I look forward to reading more of your writing!

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) I'm going to be posting a review of The Mole People Beneath the City on 8/21 and wondered about the publisher listed. Since I link whenever I can, I was wondering if the publisher listed is real or a spoof since I can't find it anywhere.

Corpus Press is The Light Brothers publishing platform. It is a real thing, just not a public facing company at this point in time.

Angie | 65 comments The story crawl space got to me because we had a hidden one in the cellar of my house when I was a kid. You had to go down a passage and the opening to get in it was half way up the wall. My brother ,sister and me gave each other nightmares about it all the time. So when Thomas was going in his crawl space I was cringing and saying no don't go in there, nothing good can ever be in there.

message 22: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Crawlspace is definitely one a lot of people can relate to. We have one under our house but it's not as muddy and gross as Tom's and we only have dead mouse bodies :O) I had to go under there to get a hole drilled for the Dish Network guy to feed cable through...he was gonna charge us 50 bucks to go under there.
Oh and we had a crawlspace between bedrooms growing up and the entrance was in my older brother's room. At night he used to sneak in there, crawl all the way around so he was within the wall in my bedroom and make evil ghost sounds and scare the hell out of me...I think I was 6 or 7...older brother are so much fun huh :O)

Excerpt from an interview, about CRAWLSPACE:

"I love exploring sensory limits and confronting personal fears, and some people have asked me if CRAWLSPACE was born out of time spent in sensory deprivation tanks. It was not a connection I would have made, because to me the inner space that can be explored in that environment is as limitless as the external universe.

The inspiration for CRAWLSPACE was born out of actual life experiences. For about a week as a young teen, I was forced to work underneath an aging house, spreading plastic sheeting and lime after school. I’d work under there for a couple hours at a time. The situation was pretty much exactly as described in the story.

Anyway, the person who owned the house made no bones about his opinion that his life would have been a lot better without me in it. After several days of working alone in the crawlspace spreading lime, I was in the far corner of the house where the clearance overhead was very low. I tried to get every spot covered to avoid punishment later, but as I tried to get the lime into a particularly snug spot I got stuck between the house and the ground. I panicked, and began to scream; it was the closest thing to being buried alive I’ve ever experienced, and it was terrifying.

After a few moments the person making me work under the house poked his head into the tiny crawlspace door, some forty feet away, his dark eyes barely visibly in the dim light of the single bulb. As he understood my predicament, a look of evil pleasure crossed over his face. I knew what he was thinking.

I got myself unstuck and out from under the house as fast as I could, thankful that he hadn’t turned off the light and locked the door behind him. I also made the decision that I would never allow that person to get between me and the crawlspace exit ever again."

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Wow, ok now that's some creepy crap and the fact that you lived it is really something...I just have to ask, the person having you do the work, relative? or step-relative?

message 25: by Angie (new)

Angie | 65 comments That really is very unsettling, but you never would of got me in there in the first place, no matter what the reason...but I have the get out of going in the crawl space card. I'm a girl, and girls don't have to do that:)

The guilty shall remain nameless for now... ;)

message 27: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Ok...have to get the special decoder ring for that answer but it's understanding. Although, no more creepy crawlspaces for you...unless it may spark another scary story :O)

Really, Evans is my older brother, so I was the one that suffered unending torture sessions at his merciless hands. I'm bigger than him now, so he moved far away so I couldn't dole out any retribution without having to travel. I'm just too old for all that, so he is safe... for now.

message 31: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments :O) I have no shot at pay back either. Not only is my brother older but he is a martial arts instructor that runs a personal training company back in NY and well I'm married to a lady that is great at cooking and does specialty cakes and baking on the side..in the zombie apocolypse I am hoping they are the slow Night of the Living Dead type of zombies or I am toast :O) I guess it's good to get along with your brother..see the lessons we teach here :O)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 266 comments Mod
Haha! Nice, Steven. I hope for all our sakes we get slow zombies, too. I don't like those fast ones one bit.

You're a tad passive-aggressive, so thinking back on it now maybe you DID have something to do with it and made me think it was someone else!

message 34: by Angie (new)

Angie | 65 comments So what did you think think of the zombies in the world war z film, they even took zombies into what I refered to as zombie acrobatics. Honestly how could they of done that! Steve I also make speciality cakes and some I get asked for can be a bit out there.

Please, Evans. I would never have dreamed of shutting you up in a dark and foreboding nightmare hellhole. I'm simply not capable of such inhumane tactics.

Haven't seen or read World War Z yet. So I am not sure about the reference, but I am intrigued by these cake orders you have been getting. I'm sure you have some good stories.

message 37: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments World War Z is out today on DVD and Blue Ray...looking forward to seeing it. I was shocked that Brad Pitt jumped into the zombie movie scene. I think it would have been funny if it ended up being Benjamin Button Meets the Zombies :O) There's gotta be a great story there. As for specialty cakes, very cool. My wife made me a Day of the Dead this year. The whole top was brownie...oh so yummy. She also did a Plants VS Zombies cake a while back. The PopCap games people put a picture of it up on their fan page at some point. We love Plants VS Zombies in this house :O)

message 39: by Lee (new)

Lee (leeshirk) | 22 comments I have to say I wasn't impressed with WWZ - I heard the book was great, the movie for me was just so so. Maybe I expected more, I don't know.

message 40: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Lot's of zombie movies Lee. I think it's getting harde to shock people with them now. Personally I think a Plants VS Zombies movie would make more money...as long as it had the same sense of humor. They would definitely have to have people from PopCap supervise things.
