"Sir" Walter Scott

If you search group for "sir walter scott" there have been some back and forth conversations. I think the last Rivka note may have been making an exception (definitely was decided to keep a librarian note with final decision) for this one due to the bookcovers and number of Walter Scotts; but, search feature is not the greatest (and I'm not good at it)— before making any changes I'd wait for Rivka to be back Monday amd weigh in.Definitely the issue was supposed to have been resolved with a librarian note so the back and forth would stop.
Is librarian note missing?
Sir Walter Scott does appear on this list http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4... about odder author name issues; but, possible got changed somewhere else as an older list.
When I click your link, Moloch, it diverts to author #4345. When I search for Walter^Scott, it also diverts to author #4345, so really, Sir Walter and Walter link to the same author, regardless of how his name is attributed.Edit: I misspoke, in that I didn't search for Walter^Scott, but rather used the link from the Master Disambiguation List to check the Walter^Scott author page.
I see this librarian note on the profile with "sir" on it:

And now someone changed it from sir to plain? The back and forth starts again. But there is librarian note from Rivka saying not to use title.
Some confusion with the posts (I posted my #6 before seeing that you and Paula already posted).I didn't think rivka's note meant that "sir" was used appropriately there, unless she would have stated it explicitly

Sir was not appropriate in the is case - you are right. It was been Walter Scott for a long time and that correct

I agree; it just threw me because surely a librarian would not have changed with a note from Rivka right there saying "don't."
I think on this one and some of the dead authors that keep getting changed, maybe a staff member should claim the profile so that it gets locked or something.
I notice that one of the OTHER Walter Scotts has no books, quotes, fans, no nothing and was last edited in 2010. How often does the famous remove enpty authors script run?
Well I'm posting this one http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... over in the gr merge authors threads '.cause it is obviously goofy
I'm not sure if the script is not run that often or it does its work incomplete, as I found also some profiles that are empty for a while now.
Debbie (Debbie Rice) wrote: "Well I'm posting this one http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... over in the gr merge authors threads '.cause it is obviously goofy"He is also not a Goodreads Author, being dead. I added it to the proper Walter.
Similar to the case of Sir Walter Scott, the case of Saint Augustine of Hippo:http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
I don't know if "Saint" should be removed, or if it's the case when an author is best known this way (like the example of Mahatma Gandhi in the manual)

Gandii has not been "Mahatma" for quite a while (nearly a year, I think). He is "Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi".
Augustine has been renamed scores of times on Goodreads. It is one of those cases where being able to 'lock' the author page would be quite handy. I would leave it. It will only get changed again unless a PTB adds a threatening Note.
Librarian manual may need an edit then because this is what it currently says about Gandhi : http://www.goodreads.com/librarian_ma... change log says name changed as recently as March 2012 (once too many changes hard to tell what was official, what was undoing a wrong change, or ...oddly, the profile showed no librarian note although maybe was erased, I only glanced at the log)
I'm in favor of goodreads staff or Rivka creating some profiles claiming some of these perennially problem dead author profiles that keep getting changed if they have no other way of locking coming soon. In Sir Walter Scott case, ridiculous how often lbrarian note was getting ignored. The note should be lock enough to prevent profile from being changed.
Nothing stops how members type in an author name; but profile editing...should be able to lock it down to goodreads standards.
Debbie wrote: "Librarian manual may need an edit then becausevthis is what t currently says about Gandhi : http://www.goodreads.com/librarian_ma..."There are plenty of people on Goodreads who aren't listed under their best-known name. Lord Byron (not George Gordon Byron) and Sir Peter Scott (not Peter Markham Scott) spring to mind.
I know; but once author profile changed enough that librarian manual actually uses as an example and/or Rivka puts a librarian note on the profile, no one should be still changing back and forth.I only looked at Gandhi; made no changes. But author spelling did not match example in the manual. And I just thought it was odd that there was no librarian note. I do think that's one author profile that needs a librarian note.
I have a bad habit of checking for naming standards and exceptions in the manual.

Since it's a popular author and there are some with the same name, I prefer someone else does it, but I guess it should be changed to simply "Walter Scott" (Walter^Scott? Walter^^Scott?)
Thanks
