J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments *laughs* I've tried that (not bringing money with me) but I always end up with a few somehow. o.O I counted for a recent blog post and found that I own three-hundred and forty-seven books, if I recall correctly.

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments Most of the time I literally have no money, so it's not difficult to make sure I've got none with me, ha ha.

When I last put my books into a spreadsheet (and I've gained a few since then that I haven't added), I owned 326. But I'm only eighteen, so I haven't had that much time to accumulate them. I dread to think what my shelves will be like in a few years' time.

message 1753: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I'm rereading Catching Fire after buying it for $0.25 at a library book sale and an ARC copy of The Word Changers.

I love library book sales. I got 32 books for 8 dollars earlier this week. But now I really need another bookshelf.

message 1754: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I don't count how many books I have. It would be impossible. I tend to pick up a lot of books at libraries that I'm barely consider "owned" since I just want to read them, rather than keep them. But then I never get to them, so I put them in boxes and pack them away....suffice it to say I have far too many boxes of books. Somewhere.

message 1755: by Joe (new)

Joe (yebard) | 34 comments I just got Tolkien's new Beowulf. I know what i'm going to be reading this weekend...

message 1756: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell I bought "Cloak of the Light" by Chuck Black the other day. It was thicker than I expected (having read his Kingdom series), but I'm excited to read it. ^_^

Allegiant has finally arrived at the library for me. So I'll be picking that up in time for a long car ride. ^_^

message 1757: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments Katie -- I've never actually "counted", but I have a "Catalogue Of Books" in a spreadsheet, and Excel has numbers, so I just look at how many rows it uses up, ha ha.

Well, I'm still not reading much because exams, but I did resurrect my old book blog. At the moment I'm just expanding and adapting Goodreads and other reviews to go up, but in the summer when I have more time, I'm going to properly review stuff I'm reading. Three weeks yesterday until I'm finished with exams, so not long now!

(The blog is http://miriamjoyreads.wordpress.com, if anyone is interested.)

Does anyone else find that reading a book with the intention to review it helps them focus their reading a lot more, and they pay more attention? It certainly helps me, but maybe I'm just weird...

message 1758: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments So, I've been missing for quite some time... Working on updating my list with everything I've been reading. Which, hasn't been much, since I'm trying to get my book ready to publish. I'm in a lull between major work sessions, so I've been devouring books.

Last two that I've read are Welcome to Fred by Bruce Whittington and a re-read of The Magicians Nephew by C. S. Lewis. I didn't really love the first one; parts were interesting enough that I finished the book, but I wasn't real impressed. As I said, I was re-reading C. S. Lewis. I liked it as before.

My Dickens study shall hopefully continue after my book is published. And hopefully, I won't disappear again. And hopefully, I'll remember all the books that I've read and not recorded. :p

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments Fifty books! Yay! I should have no problem reaching my one hundred goal this year. ^_^

message 1760: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments Currently reading Eoin Colfer's "The Reluctant Assassin", but it's ... disappointing. The narrative style is just ... off? I don't know. The concept's awesome, but the execution isn't.

message 1761: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I may not look like I am reading but I am... I just suck at getting thigns updated on GR. I'll have to sit down soon and add the library books + all those volumes of Soul Eater and Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan and this random volume of Saiyuki...

message 1763: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell I've begun reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth. It's fascinating, finally understanding that explosive ending in Insurgent, and it's making me think about what they're doing.

message 1764: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments I kind of want to wait until the movie comes out to read either of those, since I think the first movie helped me understand the book so much better... *torn*

Olivia Cornwell Grace wrote: "I kind of want to wait until the movie comes out to read either of those, since I think the first movie helped me understand the book so much better... *torn*"

Really? I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've heard they're making Insurgent into a movie... now I'm interesting in seeing the movie, if it helps explain the book. ^_^

message 1766: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments The movie is one of the best adaptations I've ever seen. :)

message 1767: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments Current reading list...

By Katie Lynn Daniels:
Supervillian of the Day
Fire and Ashes
Inspector Floyd

C. S. Lewis:
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Working on The Horse and His Boy

I must say, I'm impressed by Katie's writing! I hadn't read any of her books before now! :)

message 1768: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth I'm almost done with The Garden Party and Other Stories by Katherine Mansfield, something I tried to read years ago and never made it through—I'm appreciating it much better this time.

message 1769: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell Grace wrote: "The movie is one of the best adaptations I've ever seen. :)"

Awesomesauces. B) That makes me even more eager to watch it. ^_^

Rebekah: Her writing is good. :D I like Floyd. ^_^

message 1770: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments I like Floyd too! Which surprised me, because I tend to pick more minor characters as my favorites. But I really like him. I like Joseph Adams too. :)

message 1771: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Awww, thanks. Always happy to make an impression. And I'm glad people like Floyd because I really try...all the while realizing that he has the potential to be really annoying. (When it doubt I fall back on the age old adage--even an annoying character is likeable when sufficiently miserable.)

Have I talked about Canticle yet? I don't remember... o.O

message 1772: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments Katie - That explains why people tolerate my characters... I sometimes want to punch them in the face, but it can't be denied that they're miserable.

message 1773: by Olivia (last edited Jun 06, 2014 01:49PM) (new)

Olivia Cornwell I finished "Allegiant" this morning, and it was... wow. There was a huge twist, and it was all interesting, with what the characters were fighting for and such. I really liked having Four's perspective in this book, too. He's one of my favorites, and having his POV made me like him more.

EDIT: I have at long last finished "Hope Leslie." It was long sometimes, but I enjoyed this story.

message 1774: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments I made an impulse buy yesterday at work because of having employee appreciation week and 40% off...both of Julianne Donaldson's books. I read one last night and one this morning. ;) Both very good, clean books and very well written.

message 1775: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments I stayed up too late to finish reading a very clean, very interesting suspense book. The last book I read about a person in Witness Protection, it was not clean at all. This one, Safe by the Marshal's Sidehad some romance in it, but it never went beyond one shared kiss. My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... If I hadn't already overspent my book budget, and the other books weren't so expensive, there are at least two more in the series that I would like to read.

P.S: The Kindle version is currently free on AmazonAmazon:

You're welcome, Leah. :) I hope you enjoy it!

message 1778: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I'm reading "The Diviners" by Libba Bray. It's really interesting to read in light of recently studying The Great Gatsby, because it's set in 20s New York but it's fantasy. There are a lot of references I get that I wouldn't have got without the essays I read (and wrote) -- for example, a reference to flappers as "Zeldas".

message 1779: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Finished and reviewed The Garden Party. Also stumbled across Jean Webster's Just Patty last week, which was fun and light and charming. (It's actually the prequel to When Patty Went to College, which I liked but didn't find to have quite as much sparkle as the other.)

message 1780: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I'm slogging through Hugo nominees. Making pretty good progress, actually, but then I started with the easy stuff.

message 1781: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I finally finished the Aeneid (like... months later), but now I'm having to revise it all over again, so...

The next ten days are pure unadulterated revision hell, but then my exams are over and I have an ENTIRE SUMMER to read WHATEVER I WANT, which is very, very exciting.

message 1782: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I'm working on DragonQuest right now. The Overton Window will probably be next. My mom has been telling me for awhile that I could read it, but now it's finally sitting in my room.

message 1783: by Katie (last edited Jun 18, 2014 11:26AM) (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I have finished most of my Hugo Voter Packet! All that's left is the novel category, and three of the Cambell Award nominees. It's only mid-June, so we'll see how much I get read...one of the novels is third in a series so I'm starting at the beginning. (Three of the novels were not included in the packet so the chances of me reading them are slim...two I already know I won't like.) I have the entire Wheel of Time series...ehehehe. Don't think I'll be finishing that. So many things to read!

message 1784: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell I finished "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan. It's only the first book so far, but I'm actually enjoying this trilogy more than I did the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series.

Before I get into the remaining two Kane Chronicles books, I think I'll be jumping into "Our Mutual Friend" by Charles Dickens, per suggestion of a friend.

message 1785: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments My reading has slowed down, since I'm finishing off the polishing stage of my own book. I've dabbled in Barnaby Rudge and re-reading Grandmother's Letters (Yes, I'm reading my own book... Just because I've felt like it.) I haven't finished anything though - not that I recall anyway. Oh, I'm reading The Horse and His Boy too.

message 1786: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Does anyone plan on doing NaNo camp for July? We could start a "cabin" if anyone wants to get some writing done with me... :)

message 1787: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments MY EXAMS ARE OVER OMH NOW I CAN ACTUALLY READ

(sorry, I'm a bit excited about that)

message 1788: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell I finished Shakespeare's "Henry IV", and I think it's my favorite play. ^_^ It was a lot more funny and exciting than I expected, which was a very nice surprise.

I've begun "Our Mutual Friend." It has intrigued me so far, even though I'm not far at all. XD

message 1789: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Finished "For Love of Country" by Cyrus Townsend Brady yesterday. Wonderful book! Will definitely be rereading it often.

message 1790: by J. (new)

J. Pennington (jgracetheauthor) | 74 comments Finally started Gods & Generals. The movie has been my favorite for over ten years so I'm excited to read the book!

message 1791: by Annie (new)

Annie Hawthorne (curiouswren) I just finished "The People of Sparks" (City of Ember, #2) and "Five Glass Slippers."

I'm almost done with "A Tale of Two Cities" and Halo: Ghosts of Onyx.

And I'm reading Les Miserables at a leisurely pace. =)

message 1792: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I'm reading Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. :)

message 1793: by (Jen) (new)

(Jen) The Artist Librarian (theartistlibrarian) | 72 comments Haven't posted here in awhile ...

Finished reading "Divergent" by Victoria Roth, definitely more "romancy" than Hunger Games, but I still don't know what to think about it. I guess I like it so far ... enough to keep reading, at least.

I stopped to read "Silenced" by Dani Pettrey. Christian contemporary mystery. Book 4. I mostly read fantasy or historicals, but I like Mrs. Pettrey's books. :)

message 1794: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I'm reading The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. Actually, I've nearly finished it. It's interesting - I'm not sure what to think of it really.

message 1795: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 51 comments I'm reading DragonLight by Donita K. Paul. Once I read DragonKnight, I couldn't get enough Dragon Keeper. I'm also reading Supervillain of the Day season one and loving it.

message 1796: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I'm rereading the Queens' Thief series. I've lost count of how many times I've read those books, but they just getting better with every iteration. And there are very few books I feel that way about.

message 1797: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I finished The Long Earth. I think it was good. I had a few moments where I was like, "Is this good? I don't know." But I concluded in the end that it was. I have a David Mitchell book with a long title in my bag right now, but I'm exhausted and will be stuck in rehearsals all day, so I can't see myself making much progress with it. We'll see.

message 1798: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth I'm so far behind here...it's been another hectic month, but I have fit in my reading somehow. So, briefly, just a list of what I've finished:

Our Town by Thornton Wilder
The Third Man by Grahame Green
This Rough Magic by Mary Stewart
Five Glass Slippers , ed. Anne Elisabeth Stengl
Until That Distant Day by Jill Stengl

And right now I'm about to start Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte. Also I'm finally almost finished with Wordsworth and Coleridge's Lyrical Ballads, which I've been chipping away at forever.

message 1799: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell I've finished reading "The Holiness of God" by R.C. Sproul yesterday, and I started and finished Shakespeare's "King Lear" a while ago. Both were very good. King Lear was a little confusing, but still an interesting read.

I have now started reading "The Throne of Fire" by Rick Riordan, and "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, which is for school. I'm about halfway through that one now. And I'm still working my way through Our Mutual Friend, which is still intriguing.

message 1800: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I just read "The Stress Of Her Regard" by Tim Powers (even though I have library books I should be reading) and it was awesome, so I regret nothing.
