Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I've picked up a couple books at the library after returning my whole overdue stack. Just the first volume of a few mangas to try plus a genderbent modern retelling of Orpheus and a Stephen King novel off the new shelf that looked interesting enough. (Hope it's a good one for a first-time-reading-King-experience)

Nice! :D I'll have to locate the audiobook once I finish Clockwork Angel (only three discs left).

I read Inspector Floyd yesterday. It was awesome. I loved how the chapter titles rhymed in couplets. I do wonder, though, does Floyd ever really know what he's doing? o.O

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Just finished a 6-volume post-apocalyptic horror manga series called King of Thorn. It was pretty decent! (Definitely seinen though)

And I started one called Train+Train but I can't find scans of it to finish it. (They only had 2 at my library and I checked out 1... but the only scans I found were for the first volume. =P)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I do wonder, though, does Floyd ever really know what he's doing? o.O

No. He doesn't.

The chapter titles are actually an old nursery rhyme that I twisted to my own purpose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monday%2...

XD He ought to have some sort of plan, else he'll find himself in real trouble. And I'll be cross with him. *Nods*

Ooh, cool! :D Very clever.

message 1456: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments LOL. Keep reading.

Olivia Cornwell Katie wrote: "LOL. Keep reading."

o.o I don't think I like how that sounds.

*Runs to find Floyd* Don't you die on me, young man! Don't you do it! o.o

I started the... fourth book yesterday. ^_^ I love how Adams is basically Floyd's parent sometimes.

message 1458: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Olivia wrote: "I started the... fourth book yesterday. ^_^ I love how Adams is basically Floyd's parent sometimes."

XD. That's a good way of describing it. Floyd definitely needs parenting. *nods*

message 1459: by [deleted user] (new)

*cackles with delight at this conversation*

message 1460: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell Leah: Yes he does. I would volunteer, but I think I would be an overindulgent parent. Adams might have to parent me too.

Aubrey: o.o Aubrey scares me... you people know something I don't! *Grabs Floyd and puts him in the closet* Stay.

I finished book four of SotD. :D I didn't enjoy it as much as the others, but it was still good. It was funny, and I was worried for Floyd's health. o.o

message 1461: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I've read the entire first season! YOU'D BETTER BE SCARED.

Book four seems to be the book all the fans disagreed on. I loved it because it was slightly different. Other people hated it for the same reason. Curiouser and curiouser...

message 1462: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Olivia wrote: " o.o Aubrey scares me... you people know something I don't! *Grabs Floyd and puts him in the closet* Stay."

XD I don't think that's going to work. In case you haven't noticed, he doesn't follow directions very well.

Aubrey wrote: "Yeah, I've read the entire first season! YOU'D BETTER BE SCARED."

Erm...yeah...

message 1463: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell *Looks at closet thoughtfully* Good point... *Nails boards across the door* There.

I no wanna be scared. Floyd scares me enough when he gets hurt, into trouble, and anything else. o.o

message 1464: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I'm still reading the Tain. By which I mean I haven't made any progress because I had like five nervous breakdowns in one day over the weekend and I just ... didn't read. (Just as well I got a bit ahead in January, isn't it? This month has been SLOW for reading.) Might try and finish it in the next couple of days, though. Idk.

message 1465: by [deleted user] (new)

You're in for a rough journey, Olivia, if Floyd "getting into trouble" scares you.

message 1466: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Still reading! Finished "They Looked and Loved" today, another fun old fluff novel, and a free book from work day before yesterday...still not sure what to think about it. Will review it later.

How's he going to eat if you nailed the door shut on him? Poor Floyd!

message 1468: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell Aubrey: o.o Waahhh.

Leah: Oh yeah... *Unboards closet* Alright, off with you. I'll scold and fuss and such when I read the next books.

I saw this meme that went like this: "You are now the main character in the last book that you read. Who are you?"

So on a scale of having peaceful lunch with Adams to getting shot by a supervillain repeatedly, how screwed am I since I'd be Floyd? Without spoilers. ;)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Olivia wrote: So on a scale of having peaceful lunch with Adams to getting shot by a supervillain repeatedly, how screwed am I since I'd be Floyd?

Sometimes both those things can happen simultaneously...

message 1470: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I finished The Táin! Surprisingly enjoyable read, actually. One of my friends wants to borrow it, which gave me an incentive to get on and read it. Not sure what to focus on next, since I still have 7 books in my currently-reading and I also kind of feel like joining in the Dystopian sprint a bit more, since I've only read one book. Hmm...

Seriously.

message 1472: by Joe (new)

Joe (yebard) | 34 comments I keep trying to finish Harry Potter and the last 3 Super villain of the day books but I keep getting irresistibly drawn back to Discworld books.
(Started reading Interesting times today.)

message 1473: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh! I take it you'd recommend it, then, Jonathan?

message 1474: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Two Mrs. Southworth books today! :) Wish I didn't have to read them online...so hard to find good hard copies for less than a small fortune!

message 1475: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth I've got myself into a kind of library-book logjam. I've got The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club by Dorothy Sayers, Regency Buck by Georgette Heyer and The Miracle of Dunkirk by Walter Lord waiting to be read, while I'm in the middle of Wodehouse's Jill the Reckless on my Kindle (with Heyer's short story collection Pistols For Two on the side).

When what I'm really in the mood for is a Louis L'Amour Western.

message 1476: by Joe (new)

Joe (yebard) | 34 comments Ah, I love me a good Louis L'Amour story.

message 1477: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I'm reading Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) after really liking the anime... and yesterday while cleaning my house I randomly read Orfe by Cynthia Voight.

I didn't think I would like Orfe as much as I did. It had gross moments. The characters weren't perfect. But they were real, raw characters who had love and hope and sorrow. And it felt very right to genderbend Orpheus & Eurydice set approximately in the 1970's with rock bands and drug houses.

It talked about music and Art, love and choice, beauty and horror - the role of the Artist and music that burns the soul.

While I still prefer the Eurydice-centric play (titled, naturally, Euridyce) by Sarah Ruhl as the best adaptation I've read of the myth, this book was pretty amazing.

And now I've got to go copy and paste that all to the review box....

message 1478: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I finally finished Taliesin! That book was entirely too long. Now I'm working on the Pirate's Wish, which is due back next.

message 1479: by Theodora (new)

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments I've read five books in the last week. o_O I've hardly read at all in the last few months, and now I'm all of a sudden devouring them. I wonder what's up with /that/...

Not that I'm complaining. XD

message 1480: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell Read Dreams and Shadows today. Excuse me while I go sob in the corner. :'(

message 1481: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments * rubs hands and chuckles gleefully *

Already over 30% through "The Pirate's Wish." It's amazing what having an exciting plot can do for my attention span.

message 1482: by (Jen) (new)

(Jen) The Artist Librarian (theartistlibrarian) | 72 comments I'm about 10 chapters into Precisely Terminated by Amanda Davis (thanks to Aubrey). It's alright so far ... I think I'm just not into dystopians, minus a couple of exceptions. I'm sure it'll pick up soon though ...

I finished a couple of Hunger Games related nonfiction. The movie guides were awesome, they're going onto my wish list, but the nonautherized guides I read were hit and miss, IMHO.

message 1483: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Cornwell Katie takes pleasure in my pain! :'(

Question: In human years, or if Floyd is human, how old would he be?

I have started reading Supervillains of London, because I couldn't wait until next Sunday to read it in the car on the way to and from church.

:')

message 1484: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments He doesn't know, because he lost several years in limbo. But at the time he was kidnapped he was probably about 17, in earth years.

I like dystpopian, but Precisely Terminated didn't do much for me

message 1486: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments I'm torn -- do I continue (re)reading Shade's Children, which I read years ago and have therefore forgotten, or do I temporarily abandon it in favour of Insurgent which just arrived in the post this morning? Or do I read either The Three Musketeers or Jane Eyre like I've been telling myself I will? Decisions, decisions ... advice appreciated :)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments Joe wrote: "Ah, I love me a good Louis L'Amour story."

Me, too! ^_^

I finally finished the book I had an ARC for. I also re-read a few other books that I need to add to my shelf sometime. Unfortunately, I think only one of them was worth my time. :P

Aw, 17? Poor Floyd. So... Maybe in his late 20s? Ish? :( How old are Adams and Kate?

I bought a copy of The Silmarillion yesterday. I'm excited to read it. ^_^

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments Olivia wrote: "Katie wrote: "I bought a copy of The Silmarillion yesterday. I'm excited to read it. ^_^ "

.. have fun with that! Nah, I'm kidding, it's great, but ... well, it's hard to get through. I managed it on my second attempt. I prefer The Children of Hurin -- it's a more developed version of one of the stories told in the Silm, and a lot easier to read. Oh, and shorter.

I think the thing about Silm is that you get introduced to a character, spend about four pages getting attached to them, and then they die. And that happens repeatedly for like four hundred pages. By the end of it you don't trust Tolkien enough to get attached to ANYONE.

Olivia Cornwell Don't ruin it for me! O.O -_-

I finished SotD #6. I liked it muchly. Kate is epic and sweet. B) But I'm still suspicious of her...

message 1492: by [deleted user] (new)

Faith, you know we're running a dystopian Sprint right now, right? Be sure to record that dystopian book as an entry!

Whew! I survived a week of intense getting-stuff-done-so-I-could-go-to-a-con. For the rest of February I will be reading a lot, but it's because I have 3 big test-reads. (How'd that happen all of a sudden? Why do all you people finish your books at the same time?!) So they might not count towards my shelf... but at least it's reading, right?

Congrats on surviving the week! :)

Hmm, yeah. I hate to compare, but the heroine sort of reminds me a bit of Bryan Davis' Mara/Sapphira ... I think it's just because she's a slave and she lives in caves? I have a lot of homework to catch up on today, so I probably won't be able to finish it until later this week.

Bahaha, I was so bad this weekend and got caught up with Hunger Games fanfiction ... too bad that doesn't count as actual books. Happy Presidents Day! =P

Oh goodness, I state Joseph Adam's age somewhere, and Kate is two years younger than him, but I don't remember exactly.

There are also two short stories, and Season 2 starts next months. :)

Two? o.O I only knew of the one Christmas story! o.o *Scampers off to Amazon to find it*

I'll stop ranting now. o.o
