I think my brother liked these books... His main dig against Anakin in the movies is the acting and the emo-ness. ;) But yes, he is very nice to feed my Anakin obsession. Although I think he has ulterior motives for doing so... like getting me to read his favorite books, and do more SW stuff in general. ;)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Finished "Sandy" by Alice Hegan Rice. I've been carrying it around and reading it during breaks for the past week or so!

Kaleb (httpwwwgoodreadscomvaron) | 97 comments Getting you to do more SW? I approve this plan.

message 854: by [deleted user] (new)

Why does this not surprise me...

message 855: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb (httpwwwgoodreadscomvaron) | 97 comments You're actually Force sensitive, but you don't know it, so you get glimpses of the future and plots and stuff, but you don't realize it. That's why.

message 856: by [deleted user] (new)

O.O I'm not sure whether I like that or not, but I'll trust you. Does that mean if I do more SW and learn the ways of the Force, I'll be able to tap into that sensitivity?

message 857: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb (httpwwwgoodreadscomvaron) | 97 comments Yes, maybe, hopefully.

message 858: by [deleted user] (new)

That was a little less than optimistic, but we'll go with it...

message 859: by [deleted user] (new)

Started reading Labyrinth of Evil, the first in the Star Wars Dark Lord Trilogy, today. The writing isn't exactly memorable, but Star Wars is always good, classic sci-fi, and I'm in a sci-fi mood. So. I'm actually reading a trilogy edition with all three books bound together, but I'll count them separately as they are separate books.

message 860: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments If you're going to get into SW EU, you gotta read Timothy Zahn's books... his post-ROTJ books are awesome. (He did do some set someplace between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones but I think the other ones are best.)

I also have his new book here - Scoundrels. It's got Han on the cover. YAY!

message 861: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments I just started reading The Fellowship of the Ring to my sister. I've read it before, but she hasn't. IF we manage to finish, I'll count it... You just never know with read-alouds though... Some of them just never get finished. We're too easily distracted by other interesting books. :p

I have always wondered what that one is like. I would love to read a review about it. :beg: ;)

This much I can say already: it is much, much shorter than City of God.

Jonathan Lovelace (kingjon) | 89 comments If (unpublished) fanfic counted, I would have a fairly significant number of books to report, as a few weeks ago I discovered a treasure trove of largely-excellent Pride & Prejudice fanfic. But, alas, there's no way to record that in Goodreads. :)

message 867: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb (httpwwwgoodreadscomvaron) | 97 comments I tried to read Utopia. Gave up after about 10 pages.

message 868: by Theodora (new)

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments Finally finished "Start Here" by the Harris twins. It took me much longer than a less-than-200-page-book should have, but it was worth it.

message 869: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Once I get it home from the library, I'm going to be reading Longest Day: The Classic Epic of D Day by Cornelius Ryan. I liked the movie, and I always like a good piece of historical nonfiction...it'll be interesting to read all the details that can't go into a film.

message 870: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Just finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane, I book I only obtained yesterday. Yes, I'm aware of how many books I'm now currently in the middle of. But hey, what can I say? Ocean was the best of them all, and thus it actually got finished. I'm almost halfway through Throne of the Crescent Moon, which continues to surprise me with how well I'm actually liking it.

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments Katie - Ooh, I'm thinking of reading that! Solely because I've heard good things, as I literally have no idea what it's about :-)

message 872: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished the Theodore Boone: The Abduction by John Grisham. It was decent. The writing was good, even if it was a little dumbed down. All in all, it was a quick read and an enjoyable one.

Are you referring to the John Wayne movie?

Yes, that's the one—made in 1962.

I'm a huge John Wayne fan. I still need to get around to watching that movie. It's so long! :)

Remember I'm expecting to review your full thoughts on the Hunger Games, now that you've finished it, Jonathan. :D

You'd better believe it. *angelic smile*

What's ironic is that I currently have the first book of The Hunger Games checked out from the library.

message 881: by [deleted user] (new)

There's actually three Jonathan's participating... :)

Ooh, look, the 1000th post on this thread! Thanks so much for participating, guys, and for keeping the discussion going. :D

I also started reading Wonderstruck, which is by the author of The Invention of Hugo Cabret (which I also need to read--love the movie!). The author uses a very unique style--half of the book is in pictures, and the pictures are almost like stills from a silent movie. It's a cool reading experience.

message 882: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret right now. Despite how thick the book is, it's a short read, because 50% of the book is pictures. I loved the movie and am pleased to find out that the movie used many of the exact same shots from the book's pictures.

message 883: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Finished The Longest Day yesterday—I always try to make books last longer when I like them, but I'm not always successful! It was as interesting and well-written as I'd hoped it would be (bit of swearing here and there, but actually less than I expected, which was nice). Now I'm thinking I'd like to read a good book on one of the subjects just lightly touched upon, the French Underground...

Also finished up and reviewed the short story collection I've been reading, A Humble Romance and Other Stories by Mary Wilkins Freeman.

message 884: by M F (new)

M F (fianaigecht) | 247 comments Just finished White Cat by Holly Black - read it all this evening because I felt too ill to use a computer. I've been meaning to read it for ages, and it was worth it :-)

message 885: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Finished Redshirts! That makes three books in four days. Woot! Redshirts was fun. Not funny as expected, but fun. Distinct difference there. Very satisfactory ending; very Star Trek-like solution to the problem.

Not sure what to read next, I have to look at my list. Maybe some of these scripts so I can clear some shelf space.

I got that book on audio and quit listening to it because the reader sounded way too monotonous. It is worth reading, I take it?

message 887: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Yes, I thought so! I liked it a lot.

Over this week I read Arsenic and Old Lace, the stage play—it was an optional school assignment years ago, but my library didn't have it then, and I've been waiting for a chance to read it ever since. It was good, but I almost think the movie (which followed the play pretty closely, in fact) was even funnier! And yesterday I read & reviewed The Flight of the Falcon by Daphne du Maurier, which was...okay. Beautiful writing, but some things I didn't care for about the story itself.

Next on my reading pile is Walter Lord's A Time to Stand.

message 888: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Reading "Blackbirds." The writing is brilliant, but it's expanding my vocabulary in a bad way...

message 889: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments Finished Kidnapped. It was great. Brilliantly written, humorous, engaging... Yes, I really liked it. I only complain about the ending - it didn't seem to end. But, I think there might be a sequel, so that could be it. Not sure though. I need to look into that.

Next on my fiction list is Holding the Future Hostage by Tialla Rising...

message 890: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rebekah, there is a sequel to Kidnapped—it's called David Balfour (who would have guessed?). If I'm remembering correctly it literally begins in the scene where Kidnapped left off.

Say, we're exactly halfway through the year today, aren't we? What do everyone's outread-aubrey shelves look like? I just checked mine, and it happens to be an even 50.

message 891: by [deleted user] (new)

Awesome work, y'all! And yes, I'm also very curious who's beating me. I realize I'm behind on tallies and prizes, but there will be a prize for each month I missed. I actually just picked up quite a few gems for future prizes at Half-Price Books yesterday...

Jenni was over to visit me this weekend, so I was offline relaxing and not doing much reading, but I acquired tons of books I will be reading in the next few weeks... Spent over $100 at Half-Price and $35 at the comic shop. THEY ARE MAKING COMICS BASED OFF OF THE NEW STAR TREK MOVIES ISN'T THAT AWESOME! Anyway, most of it was graphic novels and comics which I don't count for my main Outread Aubrey shelf, but there is that special giveaway for people who outread me including manga...

Anyway, at the exact moment I need to finish this manga volumes on my desk. They are overdue at the library but I don't want to return them unread because it's such a good series... (Pandora Hearts)

message 892: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I'm at 74 books. And I desperately need to find something to read with fewer F-words. The last three books have been... * winces * * surveys other reading choices *

message 893: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Yes, I have. I've read all his Father Brown Mysteries, and The Man Who was Thursday. Love his stuff. :D I've got a gazillion books on my kindle, and a shelf full of print stuff too... I suppose I'm suffering from too many choices. Maybe People of Sparks should be next.

Thanks, Elisabeth! My library doesn't carry it! I just checked. Hmm... I might have to read it on the Kindle... I don't want to, but curiosity might drive me to it. :p

Shadow | 41 comments Katie wrote: "Reading "Blackbirds." The writing is brilliant, but it's expanding my vocabulary in a bad way..."
I like the way you said that. ;)

I finished Specials, thus concluding the Uglies trilogy! There's still Extras in the series, though, which I plan to read. A great series. Not totally clean, and there is some cutting in mostly Specials, if you have a sensitivity to that, but I really liked the trilogy! And I think I will like Extras pretty well, as I did fairly well the first time I read it years ago.

message 896: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I just found two volumes of Bleach in my stuff that I just moved halfway across the country that I thought I'd returned at the library before I left. *sigh*

Dunno what I'm reading next. I've got the Space Trilogy but that's not new to me, I think it's already in my Goodreads. Some Terry Pratchett...besides the books I have, I can borrow more from the library. And of course I could read some Supervillain of the Day.

message 897: by [deleted user] (new)

Could? You NEED to read Supervillain of the Day!

message 898: by [deleted user] (new)

Also don't forget Pandora Hearts, m'dear!

message 899: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Yeah but my phone has been unhappy connecting to the internet here. It keeps dropping it and I could potentially use my 3G connection but I don't want to use all my data... dunno I'll get it figured out. (i.e. for reading scanlations)

message 900: by [deleted user] (new)

You could see if Katie's library has it or something, too.
