You're plugging away at a nice clip, Elisabeth! Good work! :D

message 752: by [deleted user] (new)

Which ones have you read, Jonathan? And yeah, that's my concern with some of his work.

message 753: by [deleted user] (new)

She literally burnt it? o.O I shouldn't laugh, but... XD

Someday I'm going to literally burn a book...

message 755: by [deleted user] (new)

C'mon, people! Recycle! *winks teasingly*

message 756: by Theodora (new)

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments I haven't read much at all... again. : P This is probably the worst year for reading (for me, anyway) I've had in a long time.

message 757: by [deleted user] (new)

O.O But it's not over yet, Renna! You can fix that still!

I formatted the spiffy and shiny second edition of Firmament: Radialloy (soon to be released) yesterday and took the opportunity to reread it. There's lots of reasons to like that book, but mainly for me it's... how do I put this... AUGUST IS SO UNBEARABLY CUTE I CAN'T STAND IT!

Yeah. I kind of died a few times last night. Of course the fact that I stayed up past 2 trying to get it finished probably made that worse but whatever.

message 758: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb (httpwwwgoodreadscomvaron) | 97 comments Just finished Elizabeth Moon's "Deed of Paksenarrion." It's an omnibus though, so do I consider that one book or three?

message 759: by [deleted user] (new)

That's up to you, Kaleb. If the books are available separately you can count them separately, if you want. I'll be doing that when I read Narnia, even though I have an edition with all 7 together.

message 760: by [deleted user] (new)

*needs to actually finish Lord of the Rings...*

message 761: by [deleted user] (new)

I know. *cheeky smile* I stalled halfway through TTT. Only got halfway through that movie, too, oddly enough...

message 762: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Just popped over here again to inform my Leah that I have 91 books this year JUST LIKE YOU HEHEHE.

And I see discussion of Neil Gaiman and his adult material!

I have not read Stardust but IIRC Katie did and she said that there was one scene that could be skipped. I don't remember. There was a movie of it too and IIRC that was PG-13. Sort of fuzzy in my head as the plot never interested me on that one.

I have not finished American Gods yet but I am going to. I understand why a lot of people wouldn't. I put it down after a first go and returned about a year later with the ability to skim over anything that made me uncomfortable. So far it's only been that one sex (which was really more horror than anything TBH) scene near the start that freaked me out.

Don't write off Gaiman though. There's Good Omens, co-written with Terry Pratchett. Which I recommend. Highly.

I've also read a book of his short stories. They were hit and miss. Some were clean and some weren't. Mixed bag. I think it's called Fragile Things. I generally liked it, although I can't remember what my favourite one was. (Maybe it was his introduction at the start talking about each story, actually)

I'm pretty sure I've read more of his adult fiction but it's not coming to mind this late at night. Bother. Name a title and I'll let you know if I read it and what I thought.

(I won't bring up Sandman even though I think it's brilliant 'cuz it's probably not acceptable at all to anyone here although I didn't run into anything as disturbing as that scene in American Gods in it)

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments Aubrey wrote: "O.O But it's not over yet, Renna! You can fix that still!"

Hopefully. : P I'm not doing a very good job of it at the moment. I'll keep trying though.

message 764: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments All of which is why I don't recommend Gaiman to anyone. Actually, I didn't know that I thought his writing was any good until recently. I just know that the man himself is pretty darn amazing. I've read Good Omens, which was amazing, Stardust, which was pretty good but sort of strange because it was a children's book with an adult scene... o.O Coraline which was just plain weird, and Sandman which I wish was a novel rather than a graphic novel series. Of course, my favourite work from Gaiman (besids his inspirational non-fiction encouragement of budding artists) is the Doctor Who episode "The Doctor's Wife." "Nightmare in Silver" is also good. I recommend both, but it's not really reading. ;)

And back on topic, maybe one of these days I'll actually read something again.

message 765: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read 91 books already this year? When did that happen? o.O And you've caught up to me? When did that happen? Oi!

Seriously, though, I didn't realized I'd crossed 90... Thought I was still at like 87. Woot! :D (Not all of those books count for Outread Aubrey, people, don't panic... XD) And there's still time for me to beat you, Melsie, but in the meantime I am very proud of you. :D

Yes, I do, Corey. You may have noticed I'm proud of my issues.

message 766: by Theodora (new)

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments *almost panicked* o_o

message 767: by [deleted user] (new)

Heeheehee. Only 26 of those are on my Outread Aubrey self.

message 768: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Hehe. I'm already planning out my next attack to keep ahead. XD I think I need another manga to read. I've got Rurouni Kenshin lying around as well as One Piece. Plus a few assorted Marvel comics... let's see if I get into any of those.

At the moment I'm evacuating the house, though. Landlord is showing around potential new tenants.

message 769: by [deleted user] (new)

*already has 11 volumes of Pandora Hearts checked out* ;)

message 770: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb (httpwwwgoodreadscomvaron) | 97 comments The series was really good. She's definitely one of my favorite authors now.

message 771: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I have all of the hugo nominees downloaded onto my kindle for reading. All the reading has to be done in time for voting at the end of July. Will I make it? We'll see...

message 772: by Shadow (new)

Shadow | 41 comments I finished Uglies last night! And today I have begun Pretties. It's a good series so far; at least as good, I think, as when I read it years ago. There's romance, but good action, scifi, and dystopia; and good messages (at least in Uglies) about you looking beautiful as you.

message 773: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I'm up to like 94 books I think... finished, that is. My Outread Aubrey shelf got a little messy by accident. I'll get those half-read books finished up soon and then there will be lotsssssssssssssss. XD

message 774: by [deleted user] (new)

That's why I consistently ask you for reviews, Corey, as you've noticed. ^_^ Thanks! :D

Ooh, dystopia. Maybe I need to read that, Shadow. :D

See to it, Mel. No messy shelves for the Leah who has to do the counting.

message 775: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I'll double-check stuff later. :D

message 776: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Finished No Time on My Hands (which was great) earlier this week, and today I read Good-Bye, Mr. Chips by James Hilton, a charming, touching little novella. Next up I've got a book of stories by Dorothy M. Johnson, another Western writer I've had on my list for a long time.

message 777: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Aubrey wrote: "See to it, Mel. No messy shelves for the Leah who has to do the counting"

Okay, I have to ask why she calls you Leah. Since my name is Leah, it catches my eye every time. :P

message 778: by [deleted user] (new)

*laughs* Yes, that throws people a lot, until they catch onto it, and then they call me Leah and refuse to call me anything else. ;) Way back in the day, Jenni and I coauthored a novel, in which our respective protagonists were Leah and Melody. We started calling each other that, and... wow. It stuck. Badly. Mel loved it so much that she started deliberately training other people to call me Leah. There are people who do not know me as anything else, I kid thee not. XD

message 779: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Okay. Got it. Kind of funny since one of my best friend's name is Melody.

message 780: by [deleted user] (new)

*laughs*

message 781: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Yes, I train people so well. I'm proud of myselfs.

In this area you kind of have the right to be... You're very accomplished, I'll give you that. You even have my parents saying it sometimes!

message 783: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Just finished Supervillain Hunters, International. Here's a link to my review.

message 784: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Oooh. *pounces on review*
*grins and gets back to writing Book 5*
(Ya'll have no idea what's coming.)

message 785: by [deleted user] (new)

I know what's coming and it's going to be amazing in a break-my-heart-Floyd sort of way.

message 786: by [deleted user] (new)

*shushes* Sowwy. I don't know precisely what happens--you know, how he gets out of the mess and all--but I know the premise and have seen enough excerpts to die a fangirl's death a few times... Being the author's friend has it's drawbacks, you know!

*laughs* I wasn't very happy to see the expected publication date being in September....

Aubrey wrote: "I know what's coming and it's going to be amazing in a break-my-heart-Floyd sort of way."

Uh-oh. That sounds dangerous. Especially to a fellow author who knows the crazy way authors' minds work.

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Leah wrote:

That's because the book has to get written first. * stabs writing*

message 789: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Katie wrote: "That's because the book has to get written first. *stabs writing*"

I can sympathize with that. I'm also in the middle of writing a novel.

message 790: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Read and reviewed the Dorothy Johnson book yesterday—really enjoyed it. Now I'm passing the time with some short stories by Mary Wilkins Freeman, till my interlibrary loan requests arrive. :)

message 791: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Currently reading a manga called Psyren. It's really good. Timetravel. Dystopian future. Monsters. Human experiments & psychic powers. More monsters. More timetravel. Changing the past to change the future. Yeah!!

message 792: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments I'm finally back to reading... I had to take a sabbatical, but now that my book is done... :D

I'm currently reading "Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment" by Jeremiah Burroughs (since I never did finish before) and "Kidnapped" by Robert Louis Stevenson. That's not counting the odd Dr. Seuss book, since I keep taking my little brother's library books to read myself. :p

message 793: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments Corey wrote: "Just finished Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. Simply incredible. A masterpiece in every sense of the word."

I tried to read "Of Mice and Men". I just couldn't get passed the language issue... I skipped to the end and found out what happened, but never did understand it, since I missed the middle. :p

message 794: by [deleted user] (new)

Rebekah wrote: ...since I keep taking my little brother's library books to read myself.

Heeheehee. So glad you're back into the game! :D

*has marked Psyren as to-read*

message 795: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Now I'm debating whether to finish watching some anime or to find another manga to read... hehe. (It's sad that I'm packing so many books and yet I still read library stuff and scanlations...)

message 796: by [deleted user] (new)

Why's that sad? There's so many books out there--it's good to have multiple methods of accessing books at one's disposal! Besides, the books you own are like back-ups for when library books are not available.

message 797: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments that's true they are like backups. It's just sad because I was getting a lot of flack for packing all these books to take with to Katie's. =P It's my life and if I want to live on books and yarn that's my problem.

message 798: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeeeah. I don't think Katie will mind the books, anyway. ;)

message 799: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments Probably not.

message 800: by Jenni (new)
