Frida & Diego question

I grew up in Detroit and Diego's huge mural put it's evil glance on Museum vsitors. Nowhere was there a mention of Freida. I graduated art school iin 1973 and showed my work as B. Greene, hiding my feminism and identity to accomodate a man's art world. I seemed to have stifled my voice and demissed my painting style, which was elegant qand insightful. I couldn't merge into crass and found constructed. Now No queston about it; older, and proud to a great woman artist.
Has any one found simliar restrictions in their careers? How were they manifested?
