The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments It was a little long winded for me, and very much reminded me of the TV show Alias and their quest for Rimbaldi. I found it odd that kids were behind all of this, that they were running all over Europe and didn't run into any authorities at all, especially considering what Max did in the US.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I tried to read another book by this author and it was just to sad so when I started this I was just really put off because it seemed to have that same depressing tone.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I can see what you are saying Chakara. I wouldn't have picked up this one had it not been the BOM.

Everyone keeps voting in books I don't care to read. I barely read any of the one's voted in last year. We've got to find some better books. Everything voted in is YA. That's not bad, but we need a mix.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I know what you mean Heather, the only reason I read some of these are because they are picked.

Well, that's also why I stopped counting them for points. I didn't want to force myself through some of these. Esp, when the library doesn't have them and I've to buy them. I'm hoping we vote on something awesome soon.

I wouldn't worry about nominating a book. You really can't know until you read it and through things like the BOM, it can bring a person some great books, along with some duds. Either way it is a win.

Amy, some of mine have been duds too.
For me, a lot of the books have just been stuff I've been indifferent too. Might read and give a shot if the library had it, but since they don't I don't want to spend my money on them. Or, they end up being good, but distopian and I struggle to get into distopian. If I can I enjoy them, but a lot of times I don't make it past the first 50 pages.

That is how I feel about so many of the BOM's for all my GR groups.

Samantha | 432 comments Well, I'll speak-up and say even though I didn't read this one for the group read, I read it last year and I really liked it.

I think the aspect that I liked a lot about it is that people who the author presented in a certain light in the beginning change and show they're not perfect and not who you thought they were. I also liked the dynamic of the friends in the beginning. Maybe I also like it when the MC gets stabbed in the back by someone they thought they could trust...I guess I'm just cruel that way.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I saw where you really liked this one Samantha, so I thought I would like it more.

message 13: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments Yeah, Darcy, we tend to agree on a lot of books. A couple of other people who I follow their reviews didn't really like this one, either. One mentioned that the author presented Prague in a horrible light, so I'm really curious now because I'm going for a few days in May to visit.

It looks like a love it or hate it book, unfortunately.

I hope that Prague surprises you! I actually read two in a row that were in Prague, weird I thought as it is not a popular city.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone?

message 16: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments Yeah, that one's in Prague, too. Any others?? If so, it might be interesting to check it out.

It was the second one in that series that I read right after this one.

I've read a few pages of it, but can't seem to just sit and read the whole thing. Not that it's bad or anything...Just in that mood.

Samantha: http://www.goodreads.com/places/1873-...

At least, that's stuff that has been documented. A lot of times people don't update the locations.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Got 20 pages and I stopped. It got my attention, but I suddenly had other books I could be reading.

I'll try and get into it later.

I hate when that happens. I've got one I seem to be reading 40 pages at a time.
