I am 6 books ahead of reading 60 books this year. I am kind of shooting for 75. However I usually average between 50-60 books. I tend to read more during the Pacific Northwest rainy months. I usually don't read as much in the summer time when the weather is nice.

I finished the "Hedgehog" book! : D

I can't tell you how good it feel to day that, though the ending left me rather sniffly. Now...time to see how much I can catch up this month! : )

Thanks, The -- now I don't feel so bad, lol. Here's hoping you make some headway and catch up a bit this month!

message 55: by Moonlight (new)

Moonlight | 49 comments I exceeded by 2012 goal and finished 104 books but I reduced by goal for 2013. I found I was reading books so fast that I was forgetting what they were about. Sometimes after reading a book, I like to think about it for awhile. What did the author mean by that? Where is this story going? Half the fun of a book is savorying it. So I set my goal for a smaller number this year but I hope to enjoy them more.

message 56: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine (saanichlori) | 418 comments I made my goal a lot lower this year. I started to panic (silly!) that I wouldn't make my goal in 2012 and started to read quick little books just to get my score up. This year, I'm putting down 52 - a week a week. That way, I can take two or three weeks to read a big fat book like I am right now. I'm about 8 books ahead of schedule already, so don't have any worries.

Great work, you're on track!

Being on track makes me nervous, obviously I'm not spending enough time reading lately! If I could just get off the darned computer.

Karen M: LOL... I'm still three or four books behind, depending what day it is.

Kaye (kkillgore) | 35 comments I'm a couple behind, but no worries, I'll catch up.

message 60: by Natalia (new)

Natalia (bookreadingmachine) | 13 comments I didn't reach my goal last year which was 300. I believe that might be in part because I joined good reads mid June, so didn't have enough time to actually reach it. This year however my goal is 350. I have read 70 so far, so am right on track! :-)

Wow - 350 is almost a book a day! Do you usually have more than one book going at a time?

message 62: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8981 comments I'm holding steady at 2 books behind. I'm quite happy with that, I was expecting to be 5-10 books behind at this point.

Karen M | 1436 comments Heather L wrote: "Karen M: LOL... I'm still three or four books behind, depending what day it is."

Well, it's about to get worse for me. I'm waiting on A Feast for Crows but the good news is there are 3 people ahead of me on the list so I won't see it for a couple of weeks (I hope).

message 64: by Natalia (new)

Natalia (bookreadingmachine) | 13 comments I don't really read multiple books at the same time. I do just read pretty much OneBook a day. Sometimes two depending. I read quite fast.

Leslie Natalia wrote: "I don't really read multiple books at the same time. I do just read pretty much OneBook a day. Sometimes two depending. I read quite fast."

I'm impressed! In the last year I have started reading more than one book at a time - different formats (Kindle book, audiobook, short stories, poetry collection, etc), but even so I won't come close to a book a day.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I'm usually good for a book a day, although lately I've been kept too busy to read more than 3 or so in a week. Darn job... ;)

message 67: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments If I didn't have to work I could easily do a book a day and sometimes 2. Work definitely cuts into my time!

message 68: by Natalia (new)

Natalia (bookreadingmachine) | 13 comments I am a full time student and have a full time job. Reading just keeps me sane so I do it whatever chance I get. :) I'm kind of crazy lol.

message 69: by Jaye (new)

Jaye | 53 comments I reduced my goal this year to reflect my attempt to read a bit less and get out of the house a bit more.
So far it isn't working.

Natalia (bookreadingmachine) | 13 comments I do love to read outside in the summer! :-)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I sat outside reading on Saturday, and the book was so good it started raining and I didn't even notice. (until the book started getting wet - can't have that!)

I had to laugh. Connie Willis, an excellent writer, said in a talk she gave that her husband has instructions to throw a few books into her coffin in case there's a waiting area in the hereafter.

I like the idea of having a book buried with me. Might have to leave instructions of that sort since I always have a book with me here now, might as well have one for eternity.

I managed to read two books in two days (both YA -- one per day) last week, so am now only two books behind, and currently about 3/4 of the way through another. Slowly catching up!

ETA: Update, 8:30pm -- make that one book behind. Have just finished the book I started Saturday. Onward and upward! *G*

If it's any consolation, we're passing each other at the crossroads, so to speak. You're awaiting Spring and we're being dragged kicking and screaming into Autumn. Soon you'll be out in glorious weather and I'll be huddled up under 6 quilts watching it rain outside and asking myself "why did I leave Florida???"

message 77: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27551 comments Mod
Huddled under six quilts...sounds a lot like me in winter, LOL. As for Florida...much as I dislike extreme cold, that's a bit too warm for me. Especially as I burn and never tan...darn Nordic complexion. :-\

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Florida is admittedly a bit unbearable in summer. I love summer here - it's known to get unbearably hot as well (100+) but not very often and it's mostly in the 70's. I can grow tulips and hyacinths and all sorts of things I've always wanted to grow but couldn't living in the swamplands of Florida. :) But winter time sucks. It's just cold, wet and dreary. Lots of reading time though! :D

message 79: by Danie (new)

Danie (heyydanie) My goal is 125, but I'm 7 behind. Oops! Hopefully I'll catch up soon. I might re-read some of my favorites, which I know I can read fast (i.e. Harry Potter series) so I can break even. Last year my goal was 100, and I read 116, so I'm trying to push myself a bit more.

I read 100 last year. My goal this year is just to keep track but to intermingle some non-fiction. My friends keep telling me about these great books and then I just go read a mystery.

I used to read on the MetroLink (commuter train) when I was working. Several times I missed my stop, going & coming, and then had to get off and travel back.

I just re-read Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters. I think I read that about once a year.

My sister-in-law moved to FLA recently. She's happy because here in Illinois we had 12 inches of snow this past Sunday. Brrr. But good weather for reading.

message 85: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Well, my crocus think it's Spring even if we were threatened with snow yesterday. Luckily it stayed in southern NJ which is very strange, we just had drizzle up here.

I've done that a time or two - or nearly done it - while riding the bus. Thankfully, I've never had to go more than one stop past the one I wanted.

Yes! I am back on track...for the time being anyway. Not only are novellas helpful in catching up or getting ahead, so too are YA novels. I owe my catching up (and a few late nights, lol) to Ally Carter and Lois Lowry.

Jennifer: Lucky you!

Catherine: Aw, you can do twenty easy-peasy. We'll gladly bully or cheer you on, what ever works best for you. ;-D

message 89: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I'm at 39 at the end of March, so 9 books ahead!

message 90: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Out of curiosity, if you reach your goal do you then change it? Or keep it the same & let your % go over 100?

message 91: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8981 comments I think I upped my goal once I met it last year. This year I kind of want to leave it and see how high the % will go. I lowered my goal this year and at this point in the year even though I'm currently a couple of books down I think I'll go way over my goal. We'll see, it's still a long time until the end of the year.

message 92: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments In 2011 I kept increasing my goal but last year I just set it at what I actually read in 2011 and then passed it. I think I might have the opposite problem this year since I seem to be struggling to not get more than 2 books behind and this is after I chose to have a goal lower than what I actually read in 2012.

message 93: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I think both of the previous years I just let it stay the same and watched how far I went beyond it. I lowered my goal this year, but think I will need to up it as my reading has stayed pretty consistent and I thought it was going to fall off.

message 94: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27551 comments Mod
I've had the same goal (100) for three or four years now, and have only managed to do a couple over that each year. Right now I am 68 pages from the end of book 33 for the year, so am still "on track." Am sure to finish this one before bed tonight.

message 95: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I have one I'll finish yet tonight that will put me at 51. I need to up my goal.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) 2011 was really the first year I'd every tracked my reading, so it turned out I'd set my goal way to low - I reached in in June - so I upped it. Last year I just met my goal in December, but this year I'm *way* ahead, so I might adjust my goal upwards in a few months, if I sustain this pace.

message 97: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine (jjelizalde) If I get close to my goal, I'll up it.
