Thanks! Maybe this year I'll be able to make it all the way, since I've already finished two books that I started at the end of 2012 and so kind of have a head start--heh!
3. CHINA:
Wolf Totem by Jiang Rong - 5 stars [review] finished 1/7/134. ANTARCTICA:
The Roof at the Bottom of the World: Discovering the Transantarctic Mountains by Edmund Stump - 3 stars [review] finished 1/9/13
5. SUDAN:
The Last Camel Died at Noon by Elizabeth Peters - 4 stars [review] finished 1/10/136. DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO:

7. CUBA:
Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy by Carlos Eire - 3 stars [review] finished 1/18/13
Well, I listened to it on audio and didn't really like the narrator much, and I thought it was kind of...scattered at times. But definitely worth a read!
Haha, yeah, I'd had it sitting around staring at me for quite awhile before I finally read it as well. Sometimes in the book Eire seems really bitter (for good reason, I suppose), but it's also really funny at times, especially the stories of his early childhood.

Hi Warnie B - I had somewhat of a similar reaction but stuck with it and it sure was an interesting read. I was my first book in North Korea and not having the benefit of having read the nonfiction book you mentioned it was a bit difficult. But having read a bunch of info on the country it was very believable but disconcerting. Glad I finished it and I learned a lot.

Lilisa, I definitely recommend Nothing to Envy if you're interested in reading more about North Korea at some point--it's a really fantastic book. Glad you were able to enjoy this one though--I thought it was such an interesting story!
