Trisha | 30284 comments Yay!! I think you'll like it Gisbelle!! :D

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Hope so Trisha :) It is good so far. Now I am in chapter 8.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments It is funny that she named that lawn flamingo Darren :) AND took it with her.

right?!?! I LOVE the flamingo! :D

Gisbelle | 25787 comments For a cancer book, this one is pretty funny. :)

message 56: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments I was surprised by the humor too. It really doesn't wallow in the sorrow of a child dying. It had quite a bit of humor to distract you from the main topic - it had me literally snorting and giggling in quite a few parts! :D

it was kind of nice to not want to constantly cry over every page (like I feel like doing when i read a book where a child has cancer!)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I second that :) It keeps me smiling the whole time now. You are in which chapter now, Trisha?

(I loved that Across the Universe Novella and I saw you did too :D It was a bit sad, but so good, right? Can't wait for book 3)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments I third(???) that! The book does a good job of warding off the horrible feelings that come with reading about cancer.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Janna wrote: "I third(???) that! The book does a good job of warding off the horrible feelings that come with reading about cancer."

yes, right! Like when I read FiOS. It focused on very horrible topic, but the humor was there to lighten up the mood.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments You are in which chapter Janna?

Gisbelle | 25787 comments The part where Virgin Mary was supposed to be knocked up and she plotted to solve the problem with her friend was hilarious

message 63: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments lol!!!!

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I laughed so hard. And it kinda makes sense lol...

Oh I see. Maybe the bug or whatever. I am in chapter 10 now.

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments I just finished it.. Haven't decided how I feel about the ending yet.... Definitely a heartwarming story!

oh no, you didn't like the ending???

Oh (view spoiler)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments I mean, the ending is what I expected. BUT (view spoiler)

Good book though!

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Done! The ending was so sad :(

message 70: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments so, what did you think Gisbelle??!! Did you end up liking it (I see your 4 stars!) :D

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I liked it :) It was a fun read and I loved the ending. It was sad, but at least Cam met Asher before she passed.

I didn't cry by the way. But it was very emotional, especially when Cam called her friend and knew that she had already passed away.

message 72: by Trisha, lives on coffee (last edited Jan 14, 2013 11:43PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments I thought the end was so well done. That she was so at peace with it. That it didn't go into the families complete devastation without her. That we know Asher was there but not how it affected him

and that it did seem peaceful, almost okay for her to go when she went... it broke my heart though. I did tear up and cry - because I have a 14 year old and just couldn't imagine the heartache of losing her or my 8 year old (and if I would have the grace to do it and keep myself together at all...like so many parents do)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments yes, I see. True, Cam was so at peace, which made reading it more bearable.

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments I didn't cry.. I was glad she got to experience so much happiness before she passed. Though, I sort of wish she would of had more time with Asher.

It did seem like good timing for her mother to get married. She got to experience such happiness before her daughter was taken away. Not to mention, she now has him around to help out with the aftermath. She will need a rock to lean on after Cam passed.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I agree with you also Janna. Even she lived a short life, at least she got things in the flamingo list done :)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Definitely! And she got to finish Lily's list as well.. which seemed to bring her closure.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Oh Lily :( It was sad when she passed away.

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Yeah, I know.. And the way she found out. After not talking to her for weeks.. AND poor Cam's reaction. Heartbreaking.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Yes. I wish they least had talked before Lily passed.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I am not sure if Tori is still reading it or what.

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments I don't know.. she still hadn't started it last time she commented on the 9th. Maybe, she just got too busy.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I see.

Anyway, I'm glad we all agree that this book deserves 4 stars :)

message 83: by Trisha, lives on coffee (last edited Jan 15, 2013 06:19PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments no, on page 1, Tori said there was no way to read it in time (message 38 I think)

I think we're all done with this one ;)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Ok then :) I;m moving it to completed folder.

I just finished this book today!! I started it yesterday, and I absolutely loved it! I agree with what you girls said about the humor lightening up the whole story. It was nice not to be crying every page of this book. And I loved the ending. I thought it was nice that she died at peace with Asher by her side. Overall I really enjoyed this book!! It was really great! :) And sorry I couldn't read this book when you guys did, I was just so busy. But I am glad that I did finally get around to reading it, because I really enjoyed this book!! :)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Glad to hear you loved it! I did too. I felt the same as you did. It was nice that she could be with Asher before she passed away. And no need to apologize :)

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for understanding... :)

And I am glad that everyone in this discussion loved it too!! I thought it was a great read! :)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments It was :) I laughed so hard so many times :D The lawn flamingo scene was so funny.

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG yes! :) This book was so hilarious. I was totally laughing out loud at that scene!! :)

I thought Asher was soo sweet. I knew that he liked Cam from the minute they first met!!

And also, when Cam found out that Lily died, I was so sad because they had both been fighting and mad at each other and they had never gotten the chance to apologize and be friends again, which I thought was really sad.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments yes lobster pound :D And she wanted to adopt a lobster. Such a hoot. Asher was so adorable.

I was sad also when I read the part that Lily died and Cam and her had not had a chance to talk first. So sad.

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)

And I thought it was so cute when she adopted Homer, and then Asher and Cam had thrown him back into the ocean with the freedom bracelet!! :)

This book was just so good. There were things that were sad about it, and also really funny, and happy, and I just loved this book so much. :)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Yes who says a book about cancer can't be funny? :)

message 93: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly. :) The humor in this book really took away the whole sadness of the cancer theme to this book.
