Nicole (nmhdiver) | 8 comments I have given away 2 books through good reads and neither recipient has reviewed the book. I just want to put a reminder out there that many authors giving books away on good reads are beginning their careers and need these reviews. Writing is a difficult field to infiltrate and when books are given away they are taking a complete loss. Most authors make a very small % so any book given away is quite a sacrifice. Thank you.

Thanks for your comments Nicole. I definately agree but unfortunatley the rate of reviews that I've seen from free review copies of books is as low as 30%. Keep plugging away.

Yup.

Dennis Maley Yikes. My experience is not as good as S.W. 30%? My experience is prob ably 15%. But that's a lot better than 1 in a thousand.

Reviewing free books is a courtesy, but not one that you can actually expect. Of course, when people win give-always they may not turn out to be people who you want reviewing your book anyway--they may not really like the type of book all that much, etc.

When I have received books, I have reviewed them :) But if I got one I couldn't give at least three stars to, I would not review it.

Krista Breen (kristamichellebreen) | 46 comments Entirely unsolisitated total stranger reviews seem to be 1 per 1000. I'm not counting authors I've review swapped with, people I've asked to review my work, or grandparents who are friends of my mother-in-law types.

These are however the most prized of all reviews. Especially if they come from an actual kid.

Know what you mean, Krista! I was very excited at the first review I got from someone I didn't know at all--especially as it was just as positive as the ones from my friends and relations (most of whom wouldn't have reviewed it if they couldn't say something nice).

Rebecca Henry | 26 comments I would write a review but sadly I have never won a book :(
