Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments I don't mind the snakes so much as the spiders. If a spider comes out in my sight, it's dead. I'll admit if the critter (of any variety, lol) was in my bedroom, it would be freak out time. That will factoid (true or not, idk, I seriously hope not) about people swallowing bugs in their sleep makes me wanna duct tape my mouth closed when I go to bed, :O
We had hamsters when I was a kid, they were cool, but never anything bigger besides cats and dogs. :)

Yes please!!!!

Although I have to mention, I had a cleaner come a few times last year, once before we had a massive party, once before the in-laws came to stay for a couple of weeks and once before we had house-sitters come to stay while we went away over christmas... Anyways, Tina, the cleaner, was a little charmed by my kids, and last time she came she brought them little presents and decorations to hang in the chrissy tree, which I thought was nice of her... the problem was that my husband didn't know I'd had a cleaner in and when he came that night and asked where I'd bought the decorations my 3 yr old piped up and told him Tina, and when asked further, explained that "she cleans the floors, you know". Iain was livid. Like, couldn't look at me, he was that angry, and he doesn't do angry often, so it's even more effective, damn him. And my only excuse was that our house has over doubled in size with the last move, and it's a little hard for me to keep on top of it with the kids running around... poor excuse, really, since I only work part-time. I felt horrible but it seemed to calm him down.

The good news is that he bought me a steam mop in the Boxing day sales. The bad news is that now I really have no excuse to keep my floors looking spiffy.

lol, I have obviously woken up in a chatty mood this morning :-)

Everyone who knows me knows I'm an animal lover, Big Time. (And they love me; I used to walk all my friends dogs and carry treats in my pockets.) My first husband dropped a stepping-stone paver on a sweet little mouse that was outside by the garage! I was horrified. I cringed when my cat would bring a cute little mouse in the house to show off...and torment it.

That said, I absolutely hated that rat! You wouldn't believe the route of destruction to which he laid waste. Once I went to the grocery store and got a migraine. It was so bad I just put away the perishables and let the rest in bags on the kitchen floor. When I got better I found that he had gnawed through the plastic not only on the peanut butter, but on the pancake syrup and it had leaked EVERYWHERE! Ugh.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Good Gravy Beans, CaroB! Don't feel guilty for having to have help at special times of the year. It might be the only thing that keeps you from going insane. There is a lot of pressure then. I used to work myself sick (like my mother did) and then she was too tired to enjoy the holidays. Who knows? It might keep you from beating the kids? LOL!

ROFL!! I'm lucky to have good pretty good kids... I actually like them!! Well, the jury is still out on the youngest, but the older two are pretty awesome, lol. J/K!!! My problem isn't about the pressure, it's my time management skill... For some reason, when it's time to clean the house, I find I only have time to read :-)

Hey, maybe that's what I should do to get out of my reading slump!!! Try to give the house a good clean, I'll be back into my reading in no time, genius, thanks ladies!!!!

LOL! That would work!

But seriously, most men don't understand that for women it (cleaning up) is a 365 day job. It is endless. We need a break sometimes, or some supportive help someway, somehow. And yet, most of us feel guilty when we do get a maid or cleaning service.

Yeah, I bet you are.

At least, if mine didn't like to clean, he wasn't a mess maker and was very neat. And he didn't mind if I got a cleaning service, he just wanted me to get them to do a better job. LOL! (Mr. White Glove Inspector!)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments I don't mind the laundry, it's the sweeping and mopping and dusting and vacuuming and cleaning the bathroom that I despise, lol. Oh, and the dishes. 7 years working in a restaurant has made me loathe doing the dishes... Sigh, but that's one I'll probably never get away from... How about a house elf like in Harry Potter? Can I just have one of those? Would be cheaper than a fleet of servants, and eat less too!

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments I have my children do all the housework.

*EVIL LAUGH* Not really. They're not all that diligent about keeping their chores done and I have to either come behind them or do it in the first place. I find I do better when I do a little cleaning and then read a chapter and alternate that way. Cleaning house and laundry is a full time job. Men don't get that. Even if you work out of the house, you still have to clean it.

And speaking of working out of the house....I spent some time updating the resume again today and sent it off for some more teaching jobs. And I've got more to do tomorrow. Wish me luck on that.

message 121: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments No, Iain's not a white glove inspector thank goodness, and he's pretty good at cleaning most of his own mess, but worrying about money is his hobby, so anything that requires spending is a big issue for him. The funny thing is that about a month after we moved in, I was asking him for a steam mop to help with the floors (we have light cream tiles ALL OVER the new house, and three children - you're not wrong Lisa, it's a constant job) and he said it would be too expensive... lol, I guess when he looked at the cost of getting me the mop versus me getting a cleaner a few times a year, it didn't look so expensive anymore!! lol!

I have gone through spells of genre burn out. That's why I try now to read a little bit of everything all month long...it helps ☺ From time to time I still fall in a slump but it doesn't seem to be as long or as bad if I keep the variety going ☺ Nice suggestion Carrie!!

Elishia | 2620 comments I've just finished Remember When by Nora Roberts (my first Nora Roberts book) which was really good, the messed up some timelines though in the In Death part which bugged me. Reading Present Danger by Susan Andersen (another new author for me) liking it so far apart from the Woo-man, Mon and Ah (that's meant to be I) are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying) and i'm half still reading Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione
