Raymond Mathiesen (raymondmathiesen) | 16 comments A 3rd Time To Die by George A. Bernstein
Book Review by Susan McMichael
4 out of 5 stars

What is it about you stranger?
This is a love story with a mystery at the heart of it, a paranormal mystery. Why can Ashley Easton speak French so well? Why can she ride a horse so well, after only riding for just a few weeks? Who is the mysterious young man she meets in the dressage competition, and why is he so alluring? A 3rd Time to Die by George A. Bernstein is a love story and a mystery, rolled into one. It uses the concept of reincarnation as an interesting plot device.

Our first glimpse of Ashley Easton is of a woman rescuing a horse:
"Hey quit that!" Her shout raspy, she banged the gate with the side of the pitchfork. (p. 25)
The horse has always represented passion and desire in literature, and A 3rd Time to Die is no exception. Ashley's new horse brings her excitement and energy into her life and allows a new relationship to flourish. Ashley is revitalised and energised by rescuing the horse; it also brings into sharp relief the way her life has changed. Ashley is an engaging character who knows her own mind and who is financially independent. She feels a great deal, but takes a long time to act on these feelings: this is Ashley Easton's challenge.

Alisa Man I am on a serious run of book bad luck. I only dnf a handful of books a year and I've had two this week and two that would have been if I hadn't had to review them.

Coyote's Creed (Broken Mirrors, #1) by Vaughn R. Demont Two issues. The world building was too complicated and I had to keep having to go back and reread sections cuz I had no idea what was going on. The biggest issue. Our MC is a 18 year old high school senior who has a mentally ill mom and no dad. His "Uncle Roarke", who was his dad's best friend has looked out for him his whole life. We first meet him picking up our MC from study hall. A few scenes later they're having hot monkey sex. No! No! No! No pseudo incest for this reader. Brain bleach put on Christmas wish list.

Ethan, Who Loved Carter by Ryan Loveless A guy falls for his neighbor who has a traumatic brain injury. Ok. Fine w/that. Actually just read a book along the same lines that was really good because both characters seemed like adults. One had some issues w/stuttering etc but was still obviously an adult. In this book Ethan is VERY childlike. It was more like parent/child than equal lovers. I can not do books w/unequal levels of power. It freaks me out every time. Once the one guy suggested they "make sperm together" I was completely and totally traumatized. A second bottle of brain bleach placed on the Christmas wish list.

The Mighty Storm (The Storm, #1) by Samantha Towle I knew it was time to dnf when I kept looking at the pencil on the bedside table and thinking it would be less painful to stick it in my eye than finish. Selfish, cheating heroine that of course everyone loves cuz she's so great. Whatever. Package of pencils added to Christmas list.

Beauty Dates the Beast (Midnight Liaisons, #1) by Jessica Sims Everything I hate in a story all wrapped up in to one. A TSTL heroine who is (of course) a 25 year old virgin, who has this gigantic problem in her life that really isn't a problem at all if she would use a little commen sense. But, of course again, the hot, powerful, rich, alpha shifter is attracted to all this nonsense. I might have tried to skim it if I had the book but it was on audio and I'm sure that if I rolled my eyes one more time they may have gotten stuck up there. (plus the narrator did a horrible job on the hero's voice). Now Christmas wish list includes bottles of brain bleach, pencils and the ability to travel into the world of audio and throat punch characters. :(

Alisa Now that I'm done being a grinch here are some books that I read that I liked.

Defiance (Defiance, #1) by Stephanie Tyler I had to think about this one because I liked the book but the basic plot is EXACTLY that of Sons of Anarchy. I hate when author's do that kind of thing. I liked the premise of the plotline and the side characters enough though to read the next book and see how it goes.

Slide (Roads, #1) by Garrett Leigh Really good love story. Pretty dark in places. Both MC's were really likable and my heart broke for both of them as they struggled w/Ash's mental health issues.

Just read them (Breeds) in the GR reading list order because I started with the amazon order and it just sucked but once I figured out I missed some stuff I life the series quite a bit. Some of the books are still not my favorite but they are better with the history around the characters.

Also it is a fun series just don't read to many at once or it gets dull

I didn't read them in order either. When Megan's Mark came out I thought it was the first one. It sort of was, the first one with a bigger publisher. I had to go back and find the first ones, at the time it was hard to find them and they were spendy.

Yes, but at least it provided comedic fodder . . . I laughed so hard reading your reviews. How come it seems when it rains it pours? One bad book after another . . .

Have you ever quit reading something you were to review?

Snarktastic Sonja (snownsew) | 15 comments I am reading Torn by War (The Death Wizard Chronicles #4) by Jim Melvin for a review. Struggling with it only because it is 4th in a series and I accidentally requested it so I feel obligated to finish it. It is well enough written, I just haven't been with the characters to watch them grow so I don't care much about them.

So, I took a brief break and read Day of Sacrifice Omnibus by Stacey Wallace Benefiel . It was intriguing. Each section has a different POV. The story itself was an interesting idea. I did find the writing a bit . . . young. And, by young, I mean underdeveloped. I think Ms. Benefiel is still growing as an author and I look forward to seeing where she grows.

Raymond Mathiesen (raymondmathiesen) | 16 comments Crimson Footprints by Shewanda Pugh - Book Review
5 out of 5 stars

The balancing act of life…
Deena Hammond is a 24 year old architect living and working in her home town of Miami, Florida. In some ways Deena is very successful, but she comes from a poor background, and in many ways she is still inextricably tied up with those origins. Her grandmother, Emma Hammond, who brought Deena up, is constantly demanding and never satisfied. Deena’s adult brother Anthony is a small-time criminal, and her sister Lizzie, though still at school, is incorrigibly wayward and seems headed for a disaster of a life. Deena is half African-American and half white and feels that she was never really accepted by the black side of her family when they took her in as a child. In very harrowing circumstances Deena meets Takumi (Tak for short) Tanaka, the son of her world famous, distant and demanding boss Daichi Tanaka. Immediately the personal chemistry and attraction seems right, but everything else between these two people seems impossible. Deena is a mere underling. Should she even be talking to the son of the owner of the business she works for? What is more Deena’s family very much expects her to date a black man. Can these two people overcome the odds and form a friendship, or even the romance they both desire?

Shewanda Pugh’s Crimson Footprints can certainly be classified as a romance; however, it is much more than that. It is a story of class consciousness and racial division. It is about the struggle to find the right equilibrium between work and family, and it is a story about trying to ‘do the right thing’. Most of all, this novel is about balance in all things. We are all different, but we must overcome our resistances and come to the centre ground if we are truly going to be a success in life.

Angela(demonsangel) Fitzgerald (demonsangel) | 47 comments Sonja, I really enjoyed the first story in the book of Day of Sacrifice Omnibus Day of Sacrifice Omnibus by S.W. Benefiel .Don't get me wrong I thought it to be all good stories but I didn't know going in that it was six stories in one. If I'd known, I wouldn't have read this book. I wouldve waited until I could afford to buy all six books. I just didn't like all the hopping back and forth. I got frustrated with it. The first five chapters went really good but after that I bet I went back and either started over from the beginning several times or I went back to chapter 4 over and over again. If I could do it all over this book would have been read after I read all six books first and then I would have read this one. It's still worth the read but I highly recommend reading the first six books separately.

I'm now reading a husband and wife duo. The author of the Krinar Chronicles has started a new series and I was given this ebook free by the authors. Anna Zaires is the name on the Krinar Chronicles and there's three books so far. I highly recommend these books. I will ssy they do contain sexual content and should not be read by anyone under the age of 18.
However the new series isn't filled with sexual content. It does have love and romance without the sex. This story contains romance, majic, intrigue, and danger. The author is Dima Zales and here's the book Day of Sacrifice Omnibus by S.W. Benefiel The Sorcery Code The Sorcery Code by Dima Zales Close Liaisons (The Krinar Chronicles #1) by Anna Zaires If you haven't read this book it's a really good book. I remember mentioning it a while back to a new member, I want to say Samantha but IDK. She said she disliked sci-fi but was up for anyone that could challenge her to change her mind. It's not too much sci-fi in this book but this one is my favorite book out of the three books.if you have trouble finding it type in Anna Zaires or Dima Zales.

Well this one was not bad but it is not awesome either. Lots of smexy bits. The story has promise but as the author tried to dig deeper into the plot it rather stopped making sense...it was like she had this elaborate tale but forgot to clue me the reader in on the details.

Alisa I read Making Faces by Amy Harmon which was almost a dnf for me. It was full of love, God and inspiration. Totally NOT my thing. It was like a Lifetime movie on steroids. If you like that kind of book I would recommend it cuz it was a well written story.

I finished Family Man by Heidi Cullinan which I really enjoyed. It was a bit sad, a bit funny, a bit sweet and a bit romantic. Made me say "aahhh" in a few places.

Needing to get some smuttiness into my week (cuz smuttiness IS my thing) I read True (New Species, #11) by Laurann Dohner It was pretty good. There was a far better plot than usual and less sex. True was a very reasonable and exercised a lot of common sense. Now I realize this is wrong of me to say but I was kind of bummed. I read New Species for the whole "Me New Species, You Woman" thing and then he acts like a completely crazy person and drags to back to the house for hot monkey sex. Never thought I'd be bummed that an author was improving in their writing.

Since my brain had been Od'd on sweet and True only gave me a minimal smutty fix I decided to read Freak Show (Alexa O'Brien, Huntress, #7) by Trina M. Lee Hopefully Arys will lose his temper & kill some people and Shaz will end up back in bed w/them. Then all will be right again in my world. LOL
