My pleasure Alisa :D

Alisa I just finished Thomas's Choice (Scanguards Vampires #8) by Tina Folsom It had a happy, sappy ending & honestly I loved evey minute of it. I typically don't like cupcake books but I will always eat it up w/the Scanguard Vamps & the New Species guys.

I'm now starting Archangel Rafe (A Novel of The Seven) by Lisa Hughey and Zero at the Bone (Zero at the Bone, #1) by Jane Seville

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments I finished Halo (Halo, #1) by Alexandra Adornetto it was pretty good not great but I still want to read the others and see what happens.

Now I'm reading First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

message 1206: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) I'm doing the reread along with Kim Harrison and start The Good, the Bad, and the Undead on the 15th. I will be starting Cold Blooded within the next day. I'm doing some non UF reading, catching up on some award winners from last year and just books I heard a lot about but never got a chance to read, including The Thirteenth Tale and Telegraph Avenue.

Raymond Mathiesen (raymondmathiesen) | 16 comments American Crow by Jack Lacey – Book Review
Reviewed by Susan McMichael
5 out of 5 stars

Move over Rebus, here comes Blake…
Detective fiction is a little like drinking wine: there is a lot around and everyone has their favourite. When something new comes on the market, the drinker or the reader, looks longingly to their favourite brand or book and says, "I hope the new one is like the old one..." It's not an exact science of course: there is a chemistry to it. The reader can like a new detective story, and then the reader can love a new detective story.

I am a fan of detective stories. I began with Agatha Christie back when I was eleven. I read Sherlock Holmes and moved onto the feminist detectives in the early eighties. It's a little hard to define what I like: sometimes I think that reading anything is really a love story and so is undefinable, but....

I picked up American Crow by Jack Lacey and was hooked. I love American Crow. The character of Sibelius Blake is strongly written and interesting. Blake’s back story comes out through the novel. The plot ending ties beautifully with the beginning: it is very well structured.

I've been toying with the idea of reading The Thirteenth Tale.

I liked it but I had issues with it. I liked the overall story and it I really appreciated the lack of an info dump at the beginning. Yet at the same time not having everything present left me curious yet annoyed lol
While I felt like this book wanted to be sci-fi I tell you we did not advance much - feels like you are reading a book in a parallel reality...then there were bigger things that never quite got explained. Having said all that I liked the characters Mae and the kid quite a bit Justin on the other hand was a little to weak. I listened to the book on audio and I think that was a mistake. Anyway there is plenty of potential so I will most likely read the next one.

message 1217: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I finished Archangel Rafe (A Novel of The Seven) by Lisa Hughey which was a new author for me. I enjoyed it. What I liked the most was the heroine was not the typical 20 year old virgin who knows martial arts & can weild a sword. She's a 30 something, tired, stressed, single mom and she still gets the hot angel in the end.

This author is new and is trying to build a fan base so she put a note at the end that she encourages the book to be shared so if you are interested in reading it pm me and I will send you a copy.

message 1218: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I'm currently reading Bound By Moonlight (Moonlight, #4) by Nancy Gideon and Finding Zach by Rowan Speedwell and trying to get through First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson #1) by Darynda Jones on audio (for the third time). This is one of those series everyone raves about but it's just not catching my interest.

I am not sure I would like First Grave on the Right in audio. If memory serves I disliked the reader and it sounded so weird from what I imagined.

I have the second one from audible, but haven't listened to it yet. I am hoping it will be better than this one.

Sandra | 4734 comments Alisa, I bought Archangel Rafe (A Novel of The Seven) by Lisa Hughey at $2.72 from Amazon, what could go wrong. Hope its good.

I enjoyed First Grave but I read it, not listened, so that may be why. See if you can get it from your library ;)

I've read Night Myst and Witchling recently. Do you like one series better than the other?

message 1227: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I just finished The Keepers (Alchemy, #1) by Donna Augustine and enjoyed it. It's an interesting world she's set. A completely new (at least to me) type of supernatural character. The author is an indie author I meant in another group & I wasn't too sure about reading it cuz a lot of times those books don't work out for me. This one though was really good, imo, and I hope some of you check out this series.

Now I'm reading Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton and so far I can't decide if I like it or not. It seems a little bit of a slow starter for being such a short book. But I'm going to try to finish it.

Sandra | 4734 comments LOL. I was wondering the same thing :D

I've got Cast in Shadow (Chronicles of Elantra, #1) by Michelle Sagara cause I read such glowing reviews but I haven't gotten to it yet. Glad to hear a differing opinion and glad I didn't buy the rest of them yet ;)

ETA: Dawn read The Mane Squeeze (Pride, #4) by Shelly Laurenston I love all her books.

message 1241: by Mike (new)

Mike | 353 comments So far I am enjoying Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee though I am still not a fan of present tense narration. (No one tells a story like that.) Also started reading Dreams and Shadows by C. Robert Cargill I am really loving this one and it was only 1.99 on Nook.

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments I gave up on Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton I was having a hard time getting into it and with the stress in my life right now I want to enjoy my escape to books. Maybe I'll give it another try at some point just not now.

I started Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, #1) by Carrie Vaughn and have barely gotten into it and like it already.

message 1247: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I just finished Chase in Shadow (Johnnies, #1) by Amy Lane which due to the topic is not a book for everyone but it was one of the best books I've read this year. BUT I am completely emotionally spent. It kicked my butt. Everything else I had planned to read this next week or so is serious so everything got put on the back burner cuz I need a light hearted read. Going to start Sex and the Single Vampire (Dark Ones, #2) by Katie MacAlister

May go back and re-read Tiger (New Species, #7) by Laurann Dohner It's my favorite of that series & I can always count on the New Species to be fluffy & silly but yummy nonsense. They're one of my go to reads when I need happy.
