I loved it!Bray really put us in the 20s, and it was gorgeous to travel through New York through that time frame and with Bray's magical writing style.
The mystery was also beautifully, creepily, scarily written, and I loved it.
I also loved all the characters, Evie especially!
This book is one of my favorites now :>
I'm currently reading this, a little less than 1/2 way through, but so far I am loving it! ^.^ The premise is really cool. I also love the characters, Evie Jericho Sam Mabel Theta... They're all Really Cool and interesting. Libba Bray is so amazing at writing!

I'm still fussing over that description she gave of the freakin' wind on the first chapter, and I've read this book a few months ago!
Omg I know! It was just amazing. I loved Jericho to pieces ^^
This is my first Libba Bray book, and I really loved it! I love that the characters were something of an ensemble cast and thank goodness it didn't end on a cliffhanger.
I loved the setting. Her use of 1920's phrases made me laugh. The characters are rich and well developed. I hope there's a sequel where we find out more about the diviners and the coming storm.
I loved the era; Libba Bray really brought 1920s New York City to life. I didn't much care for Evie. She was selfish, spoiled, caused a lot of her own problems, and air-headed in certain respects. But there was something about her vivacity and determination to solve the mystery that I did love. The mystery itself would have been better if Naughty John wasn't a ghost - ghosts have never scared me. I didn't like the excessive demonic imagery, and I got tired of the Author going on so many rants about every possible issue the 1920s had.
I need help! I am about 20 pages in and can not get into the story. Please help me! Did others have the same issue getting started? I am thinking of shelving this for awhile!

Just can´t relate to any of the characters so far. hope it gets better as i was actually really looking forward to the story.
I'm about halfway in. It's started actually pulling me in. At first Evie kind of just annoyed me. She seems very selfish at times but I've actually started to like her.
I loved this book! Evie was great - funny and imperfect. There were so many characters that I was feeling disconnected to them in the first half, but then it turned out they were all so well developed and tied together. I especially love Jericho and his wicked back story, whoa! Loved the 20s backdrop and perfect use of 20s slang that really set the mood. I too loved how it didn't end on a cliffhanger, Bray really knows how to write a conclusion that gives a sense of closure while still setting up burning questions. I read 8 books in Jan and this was my favorite.

Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City--and she is pos-i-toot-ly thrilled. New York is the city of speakeasies, shopping, and movie palaces! Soon enough, Evie is running with glamorous Ziegfield girls and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is Evie has to live with her Uncle Will, curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition, and the Occult--also known as "The Museum of the Creepy Crawlies."
When a rash of occult-based murders comes to light, Evie and her uncle are right in the thick of the investigation. And through it all, Evie has a secret: a mysterious power that could help catch the killer--if he doesn't catch her first.
Did you like the 20s setting? The mystery? Evie?
