Susan | 6406 comments I have only tallied the free books off the Fire (which I got in May), I have read 83 books.

I didn't realize I had read that many on the Fire.

message 2: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Oh, thank you! I am still learning all kinds of things about GR. I mean, come on, I just found out about the compare books button a few weeks ago.

::idiotically smiles::

Susan | 6406 comments Uh. My stats are not accurate because I have not logged all my Fire books on here.
(Some of them are pretty smutty - I read them for, er, entertainment purposes)
I will have to strive for this year to be more comprehensive with my book listings.

message 4: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments I read 100, which was exactly what I had set as my goal on the little challenge widget (though honestly I was hoping I'd get to a couple more). My page count was 33,107. Both of these were down from last year. :(

My favorites were Blackout/All Clear, The Lies of Locke Lamora, Lolita, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and Sex at Dawn.
My least favorite was XVI.

The longest book I read was Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. (1,006 pages)
I think the shortest was In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel. (45 pages)

45 were by female authors.
53 were by male authors.
2 were by multiple authors who are both male & female.

Hmmm, what other fun stats can I figure out?

message 6: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments 110 books, up from 75 last year.

I really enjoyed Gone for Good.

I absolutely HATED Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. This was probably one of the worst books I've ever read in my entire life.

Heaven is a bookstore (heavenisabookstore) | 1 comments I read 101 books, higher than the previous year. My favorites were Room by Emma Donahue, In the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi, Divergent, The Farm by Emily McKay, Eve and Adam, Origin, The Exceptions . . . oh man, too many to list! Great year in reading. I am looking forward to some sequels like Veronica Rossi's!

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments I did enjoy The Little Stranger and The Last Child.

IMO the stinker in my stash was The Historian.

Hi there, Heaven is a book store!

message 9: by Jammies (last edited Jan 03, 2013 07:40PM) (new)

Jammies Read 162 books, 56, 972 pages.

My favorites were Blackout, Cold Days, Wool Omnibus, and Discount Armageddon, Eyes Like Stars.

The WORST book I read in 2012 and one of the worst I've ever read was The Scroll of Seduction: A Novel.

message 10: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Oh, Jammies! I downloaded Wool forever ago and forgot about it until this very second.

message 11: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Welcome to TC Heaven is a book store.

I read 20 books last year the lowest total in quite awhile, but read the most pages since I've been on Goodreads.

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I read 84 books in 2012, up from 78, but about the same number of pages. That's more or less the same number of books I read every year.
It doesn't count a ton of short stories that I read and loved this year. I'm reading a lot of stories, especially now that I'm eligible to nominate for the Nebulas.

My highlights among books published in 2012:
The Orphan Master's Son
Near + Far (short story collection)
In the Shadow of the Banyan
Shadow Show: All-New Stories in Celebration of Ray Bradbury (anthology)
The Drowning Girl
After the Fall, Before the Fall, During the Fall: A Novel
Astray (short story collection)
Signs and Wonders (short story collection)

My favorite non-2012 books I read in 2012:
After the Apocalypse (short story collection)
Rebecca
Ammonite
City
Silently and Very Fast (novella)
Brown Girl in the RingMurder on the Orient Express
The Man Who Bridged the Mist (novella)

message 13: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Only 22 books this year. My favorite was "The Lives of Girls and Women," by Alice Munro.

message 14: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Has anyone else read the 2013 reading challenge for GR?
Spoiler: you may writhe.

message 15: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Creech | 100 comments I read 27, up from 15 in 2011. My modest goal for 2013 is 30. I would love to read closer to 50, but I just don't think I have that kind of time.

My favorites for the year were The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Tiger's Wife.

message 16: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I read 84 in 2012. I read 81 in 2011. I read 84 in 2010. I read 106 in 2009 and 18 in 2008 lol.

Longest book read: Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James - 594 pages

message 17: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I read 40 books in 2012, not quite reaching my goal of 50 (and I counted several CD lectures as books, which may or may not be cheating...)

My favorite book from 2012 was A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. My least favorite was Flirting with Pride and Prejudice: Fresh Perspectives on the Original Chick-Lit Masterpiece.

It was not a terribly strong year for "great" finds; only one or two warranted 5 stars. I was happy to finally read Jeeves and Wooster this year, as well as my first foray into the work of Connie Willis. I bought like 20 books with the gift cards I got for Christmas, so I'm hoping to read better books (if not more) in 2013, at least before I have to give up all of my free time for an infant.
