I've read just about everything you have, and I'm also always looking for new vampire books, preferably part of a series. I recently discovered the author Lynn Viehl. I am currently devouring her Novels of the Darkyn series and I am SO impressed with her world building, creativity, plotting, characters, writing style - I could go on and on! I find that in many vampire series, each book has basically the same plot: vampire meets and falls in lust and love with totally unsuitable (potential) mate, they face seemingly impossible odds, and then through some unexpected (and sometimes not very plausible) twist, they are able to mate and be together, happily ever after of course. Those are what I call the "fairy tale" books. Lynn Viehl's books are also vampire romances, but they are so fresh and new and filled with ideas that make me sit up and say, "Wow, I wish I'd thought of that!" The Darkyn books, e.g., tie into the Knights Templar of the 14th century. You don't have to know any European history; Lynn tells you everything you need to know as her stories unfold. And although the plot device of lovers overcoming obstacles is present (you've got to have conflict in order to have drama, after all) wait until you see how Lynn manipulates her stories and characters. Nothing she writes is hackneyed. Read the series in order, starting with "If Angels Burn". I don't think you'll be disappointed!
Hi Diana, if you are looking for a new vampire series, check out Dark Incidence. Www.darkincidence.com Hope you enjoy it :)
If anyone is interested, my publisher is featuring free downloads today on my novel To Touch the Sun, a vampire novel set in Chicago. See what you think. It's on Amazon. And reviews are always welcome.I tried to approach it from a different angle then you see in many books. Not that those books aren't good, but I just had a different concept in mind. I've always found the origin story of vampire tales interesting so I wove that in. I also wanted to address the changes that vampirism would bring to a person's life (both convenient and inconvenient).
Visit the blog for the series. http://enrightvampires.blogspot.com/p...

Hi A.G., thanks for the "heads up"!

Hey, my Dark World Series, is being re-released by Permuted Press. The first book, The Dark World, is scheduled for a tentative release date, January 2015.Vampires abound in the Dark World Series. :)
Hi Laura, you can try the first two books in my new Dantonville Legacy series—Bloodgifted and Bloodpledge. It's set in Sydney and the heroine's name is Laura!
Hey Diana, the publisher said he might have a few more freebie days so I'll try to pop in. In the meantime, and I don't know how scary you want the book, but one of the novels I really love is The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It's the first in a trilogy. I've read the first two (hope to get to the last one soon). I found it really well written and eerie. It's one of my favorites.
My friend Brian Patrick McKinley released a book recently that is really good (he's also working on releasing a novel about vampires in the mob which I've read and is wonderful. He's a great writer). You can check this out. "Ancient Blood":

Could Maura's life get any worse? ...turns out it most certainly can.
Isolated and sheltered by her lonely mother, Maura's never been able to make friends. She seems to drive her classmates away—except for the odd times they pay enough attention to torture her—but she doesn’t understand why. Maura considers herself to be a freak of nature, with her unusually pale skin and an aversion to the sun that renders her violently nauseous. Her belief is only worsened by the fact that almost everyone around her keeps their distance.
Even her own father deserted her before she was born, leaving Maura alone with her emotionally distant mother, Caelyn. Even though Maura is desperate for answers about her unknown parent, Caelyn remains heartbroken and her daughter can’t bring herself to reopen her mother’s wounds. Or is there a more sinister reason Caelyn refuses to utter a word about her long-lost love?
When a cruel prank nearly claims Maura’s life, one of her classmates, Ron, rushes to her rescue. Darkly handsome & mysteriously accepting, Ron doesn’t seem to want to stay away, but Maura is reluctant to get too close, since her mother has announced she’s moving the two of them to Vancouver…nearly 3,000 miles away from their hometown of Indiana, Pennsylvania.
If life wasn’t already challenging enough, Maura begins to experience bizarre, physical changes her mother seems hell bent on ignoring, compelling Maura to fear for her own life. Vicious nightmares, blood cravings, failing health and the heart-shattering loss of Ron—as well as the discovery of a tangled web of her own mother's lies—become obstacles in Maura's desperate quest for the unfathomable truth she was never prepared to uncover.
I would be happy to provide answers to any questions :) The book is also on Smashwords, YouHeartBooks, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, GooglePlay and iBooks.
Thanks!!

The Vampire Empire trilogy by Clay Griffith and Susan Griffith is romantic, action/adventure, and interesting take on vampires. I loved this series. Highly recommended. I also recently read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. Now that's a vampire book! Wild and original.
Susie I definitely agree Wild Things isn't the best in that particular series however, I was bored by book three a friend has assured me if i move forward with the series I wont regret it...Im reading a book called Autumn its of the zombie genre im almost done and always open to new suggestions. Id probably be satisfied Reading about vampires all the time
Hi, I've recently published my first vampire book on Amazon if anyone is interested. It's only the first of the series but I plan to have the second one up by Halloween. I can't write nearly as well as Anne Rice but someone gave it a 4 star rating recently. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MNL1ZJOIt's 2.99 for most of September if anyone's willing to give it a shot. Hope I don't get bitten for a shameless plug.
Francis wrote: "I think most of the authors around here are hoping they do get bitten.":D Hahaha! SO true! I think it would be a safe bet to state ALL of us are hoping to be devoured ;)
Now I'm interested in reading something more along the lines of angels and not the hot angels who are mainstreaming. I mean actual heaven and hell kind of business...anybody? Needing some suggestions...thanks in advance...and I want to say thanks again for all the new suggestionsI'm not the only one who sees this I have a lot of friends constantly watching this thread...

Shelley wrote: "Now I'm interested in reading something more along the lines of angels and not the hot angels who are mainstreaming. I mean actual heaven and hell kind of business...anybody? Needing some suggesti..."Hi, Shelley,
For what I imagine are realistic-type heavenly angels and hellish demons, try Frank Peretti's "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing the Darkness"--in that order.
Someday I will get over my current writing problems and finish my vampire series, and it also has angels and demons in it. My series-to-be is "AVS: The Anti-Vampirism Society." My current dilemma is that the first book is way too long and I must decide whether to cut a huge amount out (if so, what?) or break it into two books (a task that would involve more than I thought, because I was advised I would need to truly make it two separate stories).
Charlie Huston has a 5 book vampire series I really dug. Very pulp noir, lots of action and dialogue, pretty gritty. I think they're called the Joe Pitt books, first entry is Already Dead. Also, if you enjoy crime fiction and paranormal thrillers, then I'd like to throw in a plug for my new book The Endangered. Thanks to a successful debut (much of which I owe to supportive goodreads members), my publisher has placed a series order. So I can say that it's the first in a new series, with the second book due out next year. I invite vampire fans to sink their teeth into it ;-)
Joined the group today and initially I was a fan of the traditional vampire. Red Interview with a Vampire and The Holmes-Dracula File.Interest was invigorated when a question about where/how the vampire myth/legend came about. My answer was that rabies could explain it.
That led me to look into it more and from the what if they are real. Hence my first book, Sundowners:Vampires are Only Human

I didn't make it to Poenari. The pass through the Transfăgărăşan was closed (it was still only May and the ice was blocking the road). Why did you choose to set the story in Sofia?
Francis wrote: "I'm rarely on goodreads these days."Gotcha. It didn't seem as if there were too many in this group anymore.
Anyone, if interested, check out my blog about my vampire works in progress. https://robinlayneauthor.wordpress.com/I started that blog years ago in response to a "contest" held by Francis called "Vampire Lover's Blog Award." People sent in questions to ask vampires. Blogging vampires responded by answering the questions. I like how my 5 vampires responded. If interested, go to the beginning of the blog (earliest entries) because the blog is listed most recent first. Even if you don't like the first few, you may like the later ones because I learned some better ways to write the interviews that upped the ante quite a bit. You'll see why if you read them. I think the last two are the best when it comes to conflict and revelations about character. You might not agree. I am curious for feedback. Comment on my blog, or email me at robinlayne.author@gmail.com.
In other news, I didn't think to tell my Goodreads friends that in April I completed the first draft of YA vampire novel that is the first in the series the blog is about. I'm not revealing the book titles until they are ready to be published, but the series is called "AVS: The Anti-Vampirism Society.
If you want more about me, email me and I can send you other links, like my main website that talks about my editing services, my past publications and awards, and provides some of my stories, including some horror ones.
Hi Robin - Congrats on finishing the draft. That's huge.I like doing character interviews. It's a way to explore aspects of their lives and personalities that stories generally can't.

Congrats on finishing the first draft, Robin! I enjoyed doing the vampire interviews as well, and continued doing it for my latest book as well. It's published on my blog and on booksie.
I'll plug my series, two book Sundowners series,so far. My vampires are very non-traditional, so a different vampire needs a different vampire story.
