Jessica (jessicatulumello) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Jessica, and I live in Murrieta, CA (about an hour and a half east of Los Angeles). I love to read (duh- otherwise I wouldn't be on GR, now would I?) I love many different genres of literature, but one of my favorites would have to be NOIR. I'm a big fan of Raymond Chandler and I've just started the LA Quartet series (The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, and White Jazz) by James Ellroy. I'm happy to be a part of the group!

message 305: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments Welcome Jessica!!! I went on a noir tear when I was in college and read those same books--I think it is time to revisit them.

I am on disability right now due to knee surgery so I typically read a book in 2 days.. lol

message 316: by Aki (new)

Aki Umemoto | 654 comments What kind of books you like? If you like hard boiled series, try Chandler and Hammett. I'm hooked on the Richard Stark "Parker" series. One of my favorite thrillers is "Shibumi" by Trevanian. Also a favorite caper book is "The Great Train Robbery" by Michael Crichton. Full of action and historical information. A quick read.

Angela (dreamer661) | 38 comments I like almost all genres I am curently reading "Kill Alex Cross". I will look into Chandler and Hammet I always can use book recommendations.

message 318: by Shelah (new)

Shelah (shelahkinnard) | 327 comments Hello everyone!! My name is Shelah Kinnard and I live in Lawrenceville Georgia, about 20 miles northeast of Atlanta. I have been a reader since my childhood, starting off with the Nancy Drew series. When I was a young girl my mother was a dorm Mother at Wellesley College in Boston, and every year there would be a great big gathering of all the alumni of the college. It was always a treat to meet the ladies from the graduating classes of the 20's, 30's and 40's and a few from earlier classes. One of the ladies I had the pleasure of meeting was the author of the Nancy Drew series Mrs. Harriet Stratemeyer Adams AKA Carolyn Keene. I remember reading any Nancy Drew book I could get my hands on after that meeting.
Now I am a big fan of Crime Mystery, Suspense, Thrillers, and Psychological Thrillers. Some of my favorite authors are James Patterson, Sue Grafton, John Sanford, Stuart Woods, just to name a few.
I am very happy to have discovered this group and the opportunity to be introduced to new authors.

message 319: by Aki (new)

Aki Umemoto | 654 comments Hi Shelah, a great psychological serial killer book is "Perfume" by Peter(?) Susskind. The unusual thing is that it's set in 1700's France (or was it 1800's?). It's beautifully written.

Dawn Whidden (dawn71753) | 21 comments Jenni wrote: "Hi Dawn, Jim. Great to have you here. Who is your publisher Dawn and what are the books you've written?"

Hi Jenni, A CHILD IS TORN: INNOCENCE LOST is my first novel published by BRIGHTON PUBLISHERS. My second novel Faceless is at the publisher now and in queue to be edited. The reviews for my first novel have been so wonderful. Thanks for asking Jenni, looking forward to this group.

message 337: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Whidden (dawn71753) | 21 comments very relevant today. The book came out in print 2 days before the massacre at Connecticut. It is really more than just a murder mystery, but a love story and a look into the reasons why a child may kill. The cover makes it look like a horror story, but it's much more than that.

Looking forward to having some great conversations. My husband is not a reader ( great man, but not a reader) so I love meeting new people that love a good book as much as I do.

message 342: by Erica (new)

Erica | 46 comments Thanks Connie, Can't wait to see which book will be picked for the February.

message 343: by James (new)

James Peyton | 20 comments My mother, who was a great mystery and early British thriller fan, encouraged me to read them from the time I could do so, and I loved them immediately! I particularly like ethnic detective stories, such as those by Tony Hillerman and that Australian treasure, Arthur Upfield. In addition to the mystery, you also get an insight into another culture. I have written four books on Mexican food and culture and recently published my first mystery/thriller on Amazon and Smashwords.
