Caro Soles (carosoles) | 3 comments Just arrived here, after much frustration with this site! Anyway, I love to read mysteries, lit fic, and just about anything else that catches my fancy. But I also write, so that cuts into my reading time. I do belong to a book club made up of Latin American women who all read voraciously and discuss the books passionately. It seems more passionate because it's in Spanish. Right now we are reading Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho, in whatever language suits. My new book, my first historical mystery, is out as an ebook now and in print in May.

Thanks, and yes, I am staying well away. Just booked a return flight in June that goes direct.

Published Author | 2 comments Hi! I'm Bruce Leiter the Writer. I have been an English teacher, a sales manager, a pastor, and now a published author of a thoughtful mystery novel, Divided Together 2084. In it, Muslim and Christian criminologists fight serial killers and terrorists in an A.D. 2084 fictional, Muslim nation. At the same time, they discuss their differing beliefs that motivate them to seek justice and protect life.
I enjoy reading clean mystery novels, especially ones with some humor. (My novel's comic relief involves human humor and hump-less camels, which wrestle, race, and help the police catch criminals.)
I read many novels to let the novelists, including Grisham and Patterson, teach me how to write novels.
I hope that some of you will give me reviews for my novel. Please contact me at dividedtogether7@gmail.com.

Pamela Mclaren | 193 comments Welcome Caro and Published (Bruce)! Sorry to hear that you had problems with the site, Caro. My only issue has been when they added the re-read option, I found I was accidentally reporting that I was reading everything twice! I managed to work that out quick!

Bluette Matthey | 108 comments Hello! I'm Bluette Matthey, author of the Hardy Durkin Travel Mystery series. I currently live in Le Locle, Switzerland, and am a recent ex-pat from the States. Since my books are set in Europe it made sense to live here. My hunky protagonist is a trek outfitter in Europe and I try to take some of his easier treks as 'boots on the ground' research. I love traveling and reading mysteries.
Thanks for allowing me to join your group.

E.Michael Helms Welcome, SIFAT. I "lurk" mostly, but post now and then. Lots of good people here with sound advice. I write a mystery series among other "stuff." I was looking at the weather in New Delhi in our local newspaper. Very HOT already (106 degrees). Stay cool!

message 3314: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Mclaren | 193 comments Greetings Tricia and Rita! I also got started on mysteries with Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes and am pretty much addicted to reading, especially mysteries. That's part of the reason I joined a physical book club — they were reading more "lit" books, not mysteries and it took me out of my comfort zone.

That said, the bulk of my reading is still mysteries and that seems to be the section of any library or book store (new or used) that I head to.

message 3318: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (alexandrite) | 5 comments Hi! This is Caroline, a newbie in the States. I started on mysteries with Nancy Drew and the Ellery Queen magazine as a young girl. When I was a teenager, my sisters were reading Erle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason series and Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe, so I devoured them after they had finished reading them. I began reading Agatha Christie's mysteries and the Sherlock Holmes stories at the suggestion of my local librarian and didn't stop until I had read them all. Like Pamela, I have all of Sherlock Holmes, but I've kept some of my Agatha's. I also have all of Erle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason tales and Rex Stout's books, which include some amazing characters besides Nero Wolfe. Mysteries are my go-to read, especially when I'm stressed, tired, or just need a break from life. My Mystery Book Club even read The 39 Steps last fall! It was great to read something I hadn't read in years (I still had my copy!) but had seen the movie many, many times. (For those who don't know, Hitchcock made a movie quite different from the book.)

message 3319: by Don (new)

Don Simkovich | 6 comments Welcome, Caroline. I've hopscotched around different genres. I really enjoy Hitchcock's series for kids -- when I was a kid. I can't remember the name of it. Like his answer to the Hardy Boys.

Joellen Laws Hi everyone!
I'm Joellen, and have been on Goodreads for a while but never even knew there were Groups on here!
I'm 24, from England, living with my fiance, 2 cats, 2 rats and Royal Python (it's a bit if an odd mix).
We've recently moved closer to work, and I'm really missing my daily 2 hour train journey where I'd get time to read!
I'm a big fan of thrillers and mysteries, anything with with a good twist and my favourite book is without a doubt The Magpies by Mark Edwards.
I'm always on the look out for recommendations, so please feel free to send any my way!

Hi, Joellen. This is a shameless plug. My mystery/thriller novel Sacrificial Lam will be featured on BookBub international this Sunday, May 7, for $0.99, so it will be available in the U.K. It will be listed on BookBub through the 11th. You can check the reviews on Amazon if you like (just be sure to spell Lam without the b). All the best and welcome to the group.

Caro Soles (carosoles) | 3 comments Hi all! I am Caro Soles, a writer and reader from Toronto.
My latest. A Friend of Mr. Nijinsky by Caro Soles

I find I read little when I am in the midst of writing a novel, then take a break and read like mad!
Mostly I love mysteries, like Peter Robinson, Anne Cleves and Denise Mina, to name a few. Also some lit stuff as well.

message 3343: by Tim (new)

Tim Smith Hi, I'm Tim and live in Northern Illinois. I've read mysteries and spy/espionage novels for almost fifty years now. When I read my first thriller in the 1980's, it seemed like a more intense version of those with plenty of action. I read other genres as will, but I read far more mystery and thrillers. I read them all from classics up to modern day (as long as there isn't too much romance). I even read some of the children's books from between 1900 and 1960 in which they are trying to solve a mystery. I like too many authors to list them here and am always discovering more.

I look forward to interacting with some of you and discover more authors and books to read.

RavensScar Hi
I'm Luci. I'm from Norway and I love reading. I got into reading crime fiction through reading The hound of the Baskervilles when I was a kid. I then read the went on to reading Nancy Drew, A.Christie and G.Simenon. Think my favourite fictional detectives Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Maigret. Wish you all happy reading 😊

message 3347: by MRyK (new)

MRyK | -1 comments Hi, I'm Ryan! I'm pretty sure Gone Girl is what introduced me most to psychological thrillers -- at least in books -- and then my ADD brain took me from one "recommended if you like" thread to the next! I've read or listened to about 30 books so far this year (at least it feels like it) and have been dying to talk about them. My friends can't keep up, so I figured I'd find a group! Hoping for some awesome discussions and give/get recommendations for new books! I just finished Behind Her Eyes (I found AHmazing), and I started My Husband's Wife. Anyway, others I've loved include In a Dark, Dark Wood; both of the The Girl Before novels (JP Delaney and Rena Olsen); Big Little Lies and The Husband's Secret; Sharp Objects; and many more! Again, excited to discuss and see/hear others' thoughts! Thanks!
