Hi. I'm an "over-the-hill" mostly mystery reader, but my first love is Shakespeare. Yet there's much mystery to love in his work, too. My favorites right now are the Scandinavian writers Jo Nesbø, Henning Mankell, James Thompson (who's really a Kentucky boy living in Helsinki), and of course Stieg Larsson. I really like Kathy Reichs, too, even her Viral series for YA. I live in Arizona now but am originally from the great "battle-born" state of Nevada. And I will confess, along with Amber, to having read the Fifty Shades series. . .all of them.

Joanne Walen (shaxpur) | 9 comments Ha, ha, nope...too Catholic for this "saved-by-grace" Lutheran. And, since I liked the books, I'm in Claudius' dilemma: can't ask forgiveness for a sin for which I retain the spoils. . .

Rhian
you can source McCammon's books easily over the net...as a masterpiece I recommend Boy,s life
Boy's Life by Robert R. McCammon it's not really out and out horror but an amazing piece of dare I say literature

The name is Bindu...lovely to meet like minded people who share some common interests..I have always been reading mysteries starting out right from Enid Blyton n goin on...:)

message 265: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Walen (shaxpur) | 9 comments I perhaps should add to my introductory comments that I started with Nancy Drew mysteries in the 3rd grade. My AAUW branch now has an Adult Nancy Drew Book Club which I'm looking forward to. Just reread book #1 (its 50th anniversary this year); it holds up fairly well, but some things are pretty dated, like Nancy's wearing a hat and gloves to meet her father for lunch.

message 270: by Julie (new)

Julie (grandmajulie) | 6 comments hi everyone, I'm Julie and I love to read all kinds of books, historical fiction, mystery, biographies, spirituality, even some fantasy, which I have just recently discovered and I love children's book. Some of my favorites are C.S. Lewis, Katheran Lasky, Joseph Lallo(a newly discovered treasure) Stieg Larrson...just to name a few. I've enjoyed GR since 2007 because I've been able to discover new authors and explore some genres I hadn't tried before. I'm a 63 year old grandma, who majored in English lit and library science in college. Married to my High School Sweetheart for 42 years, we live in the Greater Houston area, after growing up in the Chicago area. I'm more of a follower of posts than a poster, but I don love a good literary chat. Happy reading to all

My goal this year is to read all of Michael Connelly's books. I am loving the Bosch books right now. I have also become addicted to zombie books. (Thank you The Walking Dead) Thankfully, I am a stay-at-home mom who homeschools my children so I have lots of time to read.

Magpie67 | 21 comments Joanne wrote: "Anyone here a Dana Stabenow Danamaniac?"

Yes!!!!

Hello everyone! Mystery is my favorite genre but with my reading club in my small town... I have to read multiple genres and review them in my weekly column for the newspaper... My real job is office manager/accounting but I get to write one column a week. Whooohoo!

I have the club on facebook, goodreads and a web page so I am always looking for new titles to read and share. I also belong to another club that meets at lunch time in a different small town. I'm one of the youngest in that group but they have introduced me to so many books I would never have thought to read.

I'm also a Nancy Drew/Hardy Boy gal who began them in 3rd grade after I was done reading the Bobbsey twins and Little House in Prairie books

My actual name is Dena and I obtained my nickname due to the movie The Rocky Horror Picture show and a child named Margaret that I christian Magpie... My email reflects the movie more.. Although since I have had questions regarding the magpie bird.... I do like shiny rings. ;o)

My top favorite authors: Alex Kava, Erica Spindler, J.T. Ellison, Dana Stabenow, Zoe Sharp, Faye Kellerman, Julia Spencer-Fleming, Janet Evanovich, Michael Connelly, Jonathan Kellerman, James Patterson, Stuart Woods, Jeffery Deaver, Stephen King, Lisa Gardner, Tess Gerritsen, Karin Slaughter, J.D. Robb, Linda Fairstein, Linda Castillo, Sarah Addison Allen, Nancy Martin, Johanna Lindsey, Sidney Sheldon, Ed McBain and well I could just go on and on and on and on......

I love to talk about books... so I thank you Ashton for sending me an invite to the group.

:o)

See everyone in the halls.....

message 287: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) Good afternoon from Banning, Ca. (near Palm, Springs.)

I will be reading a lot of the Goodreads choice award books this year along with monthly choices from the groups.

Looking forward to the great discussions.

message 288: by John (new)

John Hi, gang! I go through a fair amount of nonfiction in a year, but mystery is a large share of my fiction reading, as I'm not that keen on novels. I try to read them set in different places to get an idea of life there, whenever possible.
I'm a moderator at the Audiobooks forum, so much of mystery reading is audio, rather than print.

Welcome to the group. Great to add another mystery reader.

message 290: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 7 comments Hi. My name is Melissa and I am a paralegal in Indiana. This is the first time I have ever done something like this online, so I am a little anxious. Like many of you, I read most anything I can get my hands on, but have strong pull towards mysteries/suspense/thrillers with just a bit of romance (small bit). I tend to read all the main stream authors, but I am looking forward to some new reading experiences.

message 291: by Candice (new)

Candice (albers485) Hi all. I'm new to the Group and kinda new to Goodreads (I joined in December 2012) but I'm having a blast! I love reading and have always wanted to be a part of a book club but could never find one that fit with my schedule. That got even harder after my daughter was born in 2011. A couple of friends told me about Goodreads and I fell in love. :)

I live in Colorado Springs, CO. I love all genres but my favorite is mystery/thrillers. (My husband calls them my 'murder' books!) :) I look forward to reading and discussing books with y'all! :)

message 292: by Rob (new)

Rob Twinem (runner56) Hi and welcome to Shirley, John, Melissa and Candice..great to see our little group growing, look forward to your comments and threads

message 294: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 21 comments Thanks! I'm all over the place with my reading and I'm always searching for the next best book to read and share with my weekly readers. :o)

I have a thing though...... I must read series in order, so I will not vote for titles out of order.... I'm a bit looney that way. :o)
