I've read a few Inspector Banks an enjoyed them. Haven't tried the other, thanks for the recommendation.

Gay (whtzin101) | 32 comments Tobi: the Stephen king of yesteryear has changed. His books are no longer shallow horror stories. Did you know king wrote the green mile? Quite different from vino, right? 11-22-63 is not a horror book but it is very unusual as only king can be. Do read it and let me know when you're done. I cannot imagine anyone not liking it but my husband did'nt so there ya go.

Absolutely!!!! I've never really got into King (despite enjoying horror books/films) but I studied the JFK era and assassination at school so have always been fascinated by it. I tried 11-22-63 with a sense of trepidation but thoroughly enjoyed it - certainly very different and definitely not horror but a great novel that makes you think.

I don't see how anyone could be offended. Names are tricky sometimes. Yes, his books have been translated into English.

Gary Dowden (garydow) | 6 comments Jo Nesbo (pronouced Yoo I believe) is well worth reading especially if you can read the Harry Hole series in order as they are all translated to English now. Headhunters is a cracking stand-alone as well and the film is pretty faithful as well.

Delighted to be part of this group. Cheers!

Gay (whtzin101) | 32 comments I have seen the name Jo nesbo appear on several book sites that I visit. He must be very popular at the international level. I must make a point to locate one of his books to read. Any suggestions as to which I should read for my very first Nesbo book?

message 2380: by Diana (new)

Diana Zahorak Hello to all of you. I'm new to Goodreads but certainly not to reading. I'm retired from the corporate world, have moved to the sunny Florida and now have the time to read for as long as I wish. Eclectic in my reading, I have a strong preference for well-written mysteries. I can't list all my favorite authors, but some near the top are Louise Penny (Gamache series), Peter Robinson, G.M. Maillet - oh, I'd better stop. Always looking for authors new to me so will be watching this site.

Saad Javaid (saadjavaid) | 2 comments Hi,
I am Saad from Pakistan. I am new to the site and looking forward to what goes on in this group. I am an on and off reader but have always had a insatiable love which keeps bringing me back to the reading habit despite the hectic schedule and football :) Just so happens, mystery/crime thrillers happen to be my favorite genre. I am looking forward to interacting with you guys.
Regards

Michelle (ravenrose4429) | 1 comments Hello all, I am fairly new to Goodreads but can already tell I will enjoy it for years to come. I have been an avid reader my whole life. It is an escape for me to really get into a book and not be able to put it down. I have my favorite authors but always love discovering new ones as well. I live outside of Charlotte NC with my family and my four beloved dogs. I hope to find authors and new people to share our love for reading.

M.L. Space (MLSpace) | 4 comments I'm Mike and new to this group and wanted to introduce myself. I enjoy reading a wide variety of novel genres - literary, mystery, thriller, horror. However, when I write, I seem to fall into the thriller category. I just published "Haddie's Tangled Web."

I have to say my favorite author is John Irving. I never miss his latest when it comes out.

I'm reading "The Day of the Jackal" right now and it has my vote for book of the month! It's really good.

I love Kerry Greenwood! I fell in love with Phryne pronounced Frynee Fisher books. Can't wait to see who play Lin.

message 2385: by Tonya (new)

Tonya Mathis | 75 comments Hi, By the way. I love to read all kinds of books but mainly gravitate to fantasy and mysteries. Mostly medieval mysteries, Michael Jecks, Ellis Peters, Susanna Gregory, Edward Marston. But I also love Dame Agatha and many other eruo/british mystery authors.
My husband and I have a well loved library of around 3000+ books; and I know own a kindle. So it's always expanding.

message 2386: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Reiss | 1 comments Hi, I am a retired librarian and love mysteries. I grew up on Sherlock Homes, moved on to John D. MacDonald and many others. Elmore Leonard is one of my favorites as is John Sandford. I am trying to expand my author list. I am also in the process of paring down a large cookbook collection and moving to digital.

message 2387: by Paul (new)

Paul Mendelson | 2 comments Hi everyone
Thank you for accepting me into your group - since writing crime novels I have found the crime writing and reading community very welcoming. I'm looking forward to reading many recommendations and I hope some members will do me the honour of looking at my debut crime novel, "The First Rule of Survival" - out in March.

For myself, I'm a massive fan of James Elroy - an utterly brilliant manipulator of the English language - admire hugely Lee Child, Mark Billingham, Michael Connelly and Robert Crais. For those of you unfamiliar with the work of South African writer, Deon Meyer, I cannot recommend him highly enough. Start with "Devil's Peak" and move on through his extraordinary catalogue of brilliantly structured and beautifully written novels.
More thoughts in due course...
And, and please visit my author's page. There's a blog there leading up to publication date. Many thanks...
Paul

Hi Mike... I only really know Peter Temple as an Australian crime writer. Who else would you recommend?

message 2389: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Birch (adrian_birch) Hi! Can't wait to join the discussion. I grew up in a small town without many readers, so I'll take any chance to talk about how and why people read that I can get. I like everything from Jane Austen to Stieg Larsson, especially if it tells a story that helps me understand something about life in a new or better way. Right now, I'm catching up on my Doyle.

message 2390: by MaryAnn (new)

MaryAnn Kempher (mkempher) | 7 comments Hi everyone. My name is MaryAnn Kempher, I'm the author of two books. One is a romantic mystery called Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder. The other is a mystery with just a dash of romance, it's called Forever Doomed. I hope you'll keep these titles in mind should you want to read a book that combines the detective skills of Agatha Christie with the witty banter of Jane Austen.
Thank you.

Ashlee Mallory | 4 comments Hello everyone!
I'm excited to find this group as I'm a long-time fan of mysteries and thrillers and I'm nervous/sick/excited to release my own mystery/thriller next month with Entangled. Right now I'm on a big Sandra Brown kick, but also loved Charlaine Harris's Aurora Teagarden series, and--I'm embarrassed to admit--just picked up my first Lee Child book. Look forward to hearing some great recommendations!

Louise (stressmagnet) Hi and thanks for letting me join.
I'm a middle aged breast cancer battling mystery novel addict with two young daughters living just outside Sydney, Australia. And that should be my longest runon sentence ever!
I read voraciously, and pretty indiscriminately. While I love mysteries (such an English Lit Major cliche), there's really not much I won't read -- which the exception of romance novels (PAH!) and books about sparkly vampires. I've been known to take reading suggestions from my kids.
I'm really looking forward to discovering new authors through this group. I am partial to a well written sentence, and will forgive even rather large plot holes if the characters are well drawn and interesting.
Pleased to meet you, and this group ajs already cost me as I've gone and (Kindle) bought 2 out of the 3 March books I hadn't read. Please do not feed my addiction.
- Louise
