Hi All, I am Arijit from India, and I am an avid reader of mystery fiction and thrillers. Some of my favorite authors in this genre are Agatha Christie (I just love her!!), Dashiell Hammett, Dorothy Sayers, Val McDermid and Steve Hamilton. I am always in search for good murder mysteries penned by new authors. Hope this forum will give me a lot of information about this genre. Ciao.

Hi everyone,
At the age of 11 I read my first spy thriller, John Buchan's immortal The Thirty Nine Steps,. That hooked me on spy thrillers for life! I enjoy a wide variety of spy thrillers, but I particularly like those set in World War 1 and World War 2.
I now write historical spy thrillers. My first book, Old Bach Is Come , is set in Prussia in 1747. My second spy thriller, Coopers Island, is set in Australia and New Zealand during World War 2.
Both books are currently on free Kindle download.
Hello! I signed up months ago but haven't been logged on for a while now...Right now I am reading a Fern Michaels book...way off from my usual "thriller, true-crime" interests! Anyhoo, happy to be back! Got a lot to catch up on!
Hello everybody! I read anything and everything but the genre of books that typically intrigue the most are true crime and thrillers, mysteries and suspense novels. I love the written word in general whereas my husband, for example, is totally plot driven. He seems to consider every book a "who dun it". I admire good character development. I am frustrated over books that don't have a good flow of story. I love to talk to people who have read the books I have read so we can share comments. I like to discover new authors from unbiased readers. Maybe someone here would like a book buddy like me.
Hi all.I don't believe I've introduced myself and I've already been participating in some of the group threads.
Mysteries are my favorite genre but I enjoy other genres as well.

I also enjoy sharing comments with others about books.
Hi everyone. My name in Gary and I'm a 40-something crime fiction fanatic from Somerset, England. I've been an avid reader since I was a young child (remember before the "teen fiction" genre when we went straight from Enid Blyton to James Herbert!!) and am rarely without a book. I do own a kindle (first edition) but still love the feel of a real book. I work full time at a local supermarket on the fresh meat and fish counter (not really relevant but what the hell!!) and was widowed three years ago and have a 19-year old daughter. Fave authors: Mark Billingham, Stuart MacBride, James Patterson, Val McDermid, Ian Rankin and many others.
Thanks for getting this far :)
Gary
Welcome to the group, Gary!Noted Ian Rankin is among your favorite authors, and wondered if you'd seen this yet: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/pe... (interesting reading!)
~Susan
Welcome Gary. Only stores in my area that have a fish and meat counter are Whole Foods (also known as Whole Paycheck.)I have seen many pictures of Somerset and and I am jealous you get to live there. :-)
Thanks all.Susan - hadnt seen that but interesting reading. I always enjoy these insights behind the authors. It's not all success and book signings!
RIck - Reading Retribution at the moment as my daughter bought me Crash & Burn for Xmas.
Leigh - Somerset is lovely although like many people, I probably dont appreciate the area I live in as much as I should. Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge, Wells (England's smallest city) are all within an hours drive of me.
Retribution was a great book! Crash and Burn was good too, but Retribution was great in a mean, nasty, completely shocking way that leaves you feeling like should have the number of the truck that just ran you over...
I am enjoying Retribution but then I enjoy the whole tony hill series anyway. I meant Cross and Burn for the other one but you probably figured that out! I blame work :)
Okay. I love thrillers, but there can't be so much suspension of disbelief that I say, "Give Me A Break."If I en joy Gregg Hurwitz and Robert Crais, will I enjoy your work?
Hi I am a 30 something married owner operator of a game store. I went school however to be a library tech. I've always loved stories, particularly mysteries. Currently, I'm reading Dan Brown's Inferno and am loving the suspense! I, usually, have two books on the go at one time. The other book I'm reading is : Paul Pilkington's The One You Love, part of the Emma Holden trilogy. I've never been a part of a book club before but thought I should give it a try. So here I am! I guess what I'm hoping to get familiar with more mystery authors and hear other's recommendations and reviews. ;-) I love reading books with a lot of action... Know of any good ones please let me know thanks!
Hello! My name is Kara Voorhees Reynolds. I love a good mystery and I also enjoy anything with a historical twist. I am a huge fan of Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole series and also like Jussi Adler-Olsen's Department Q books. I am drawn to characters who are certainly flawed but have a sense of integrity. I want to root for as well as identify with the protagonist. Some of my favorite authors are Jack London, Jane Austen and Louse L'Amour. Also, I am a newly published author and I write as Kara Voorhees.

I'm a big Nesbo fan! Read all the Harry Hole series apart from Cockroaches which I was given for Christmas. Also read Headhunters and, for a change, the film did the book justice
Hello everyone. I'm new to the group. I retired from the Navy 2 years ago. I'm an avid reader of mysteries and crime thrillers. I look forward to reading with you.
Gary wrote: "I'm a big Nesbo fan! Read all the Harry Hole series apart from Cockroaches which I was given for Christmas. Just like the Swedish versions of The Girl Who Did Stuff films were really good, and the American version was ridiculously bad. Hopefully Hollywood doesn't get ahold of Headhunters and screw it up.

Hello all. I am very new to the Goodreads groups, but hoping to make some friends along the way. I am a huge fan of Gardner, Hoag, and Cain (and yes I am guy)...something about Archie/Gretchen or Liska/Novak that does it for me)...I am also huge fans of Lehane, Parker, Gerritsen, Patterson, Slaughter, and Sandford.
I'm Mary and I'd like to say thanks for accepting me into the group. Some of my favorite authors are Erica Spindler, Maggie Shayne, Joy Fielding, Donna Ball, Lisa Gardner... I'm always looking for new books and authors, I need to keep my 88 year old mother with books and she can read a book in a day and half so I'm constantly on the lookout for good books. Thanks again for the group acceptance.
Welcome Brandon and Mary! There are always new authors and book to discover, that's one good thing about being in this group.Mary--your Mom is one fast reader!! I wish I could get my Mom to read more.

She reads fast and she reads all day long. I guess there's not that much else to do when you're that age. If it's a book she really likes she could read it in 1 day. She didn't pass that gene on to me, I'm a much slower reader. But she did pass the "love to read" gene and that's the important one!

Does she live in a rural area? I hope to be causing all sorts of mischief when I am that age. :-)

No she doesn't live in a rural area, she's a city dweller. She causes mischief with me sometimes but my dad is the bigger mischief maker (he's 89 and still drives, against my wishes). Sometimes it's like having 2 kids. They are both big readers, spending much of their days reading. At least they can't get into trouble doing that! :).

My Grandma drove into her 90s!
Reading keeps the brain active and as long we keep learning our brains won't rot.

Hello all, I am a 36 year old married man who loves a good crime story. Getting tired of big name publishers shoving the big authors down my throat, I am looking to find some good books from lesser known authors.
Hi everyone! I am a SAHM of a teenage step daughter and two preschoolers and a army wife. I just joined the group a few weeks ago as I am trying to venture out and try new genres. I usually read fantasy and its starting to get a bit predictable. I have read a few thrillers/spy/mystery books in the past, but so few I can't remember which ones. I look forward to trying out new authors and branching out.

Hi Laura. I am replying to a post you made a long time ago. I hope you are active in this group because according to your newbie post , we seem to have a lot in common. I could use a friend and you sound like a person I would enjoy getting to know. Gay is my name, not my sexual preference. I am 66, married for 43 years. Two grown children. I love animals and I am dedicated and responsible pet owner. I have two little dogs. Love love love to read. Hope to hear from you.
Leigh wrote: "Rick wrote: "Hello all, I am a 36 year old married man who loves a good crime story. Stephen Leather and Matthew Reilly are worth a try.
Hi, I am Pete Hanniford and I have just released my debut novel The Heist...dogs bark the loudest on quiet nights. Thanks for adding me to the group and I look forward to the group reads/discussions.
Pete wrote: "Hi, I am Pete Hanniford and I have just released my debut novel The Heist...dogs bark the loudest on quiet nights. Thanks for adding me to the group and I look forward to the group reads/discussions."Welcome Peter. Good-luck with your book!!
Hi peter welcome to the group. Actually I am very new myself and have not gotten to "know" anybody yet. My name is Gay Springfield from Weatherford Texas. I am 66. I love to read. I savor every word. I never skip a page. I never quit a book in mid-stream. I am an adult, not a young one either. I have never understood what makes a book a "young adult" instead of adult unless it is a more shallow plot? More elementary vocabulary? Sex? Bad language? Violence? I have found all of these things in book classified as young adult before. Who decides this anyway? Like you I enjoy a good mystery but I am not a reader that tries to guess who dunnit I don't care who dunnit, I just love the story, the characters, the setting the style. I love the English language. I admire the art and talent of writing. I find something good about every book that I read. Presently i am reading the Devil in the White City, by Erik Larson. For anyone who does not know, FYI, when you reference a book in text, you are supposed to always include the author's name. I forgot what grade this is taught but I notice that the rule has been ignored much of the time. Oh I guess I need to say that in a discussion of a book the above rule only applies the first time the book is mentioned. This E. Larson book is so good!! It's very well researched. It's about the 1st American World's fair in Chicago in 1893 and the serial killer H.H. Holmes who was killing anyone he thought was getting in his way. He's very evil and despicable. I urge everyone to read it.
Hi, my name is Tobi and mystery/thriller is one of my preferred genres. I just read the first of a couple of Scandinavian series, The Bat by Jo Nesbo and Roseanna by Maj Sjowall. Not sure if I'll pursue either. My favourite series would have to be the Inspector Gamache novels by Louise Penny. Another Canadian series that I like is the John Cardinal one by Giles Blunt. I'm always on the lookout for new recommendations (series or standalone novels).
I always jump at the chance to tell people that everyone who loves to read should read 11-22-63 by Stephen King.

You could always try Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks series and Stuart Macbride's Logan Macrae books.
