Introductions

I love mystery and crime novels and hope to get some great new ideas for books to read from being a part of this group.

I absolute love to read books and especially crime and suspense novels. There are several successful Swedish crime authors and I have read a few. However, I definitely prefer American and English writers. My favorite in this genre are J. Deaver, M. Connelly, P. Cornwell, P. Robinson, D. Lehane, A. Christie and J. Patterson.
I look forward to getting to know you and your recommendations!

Haha. Welcome to the group. Hope you will join the threads so that we can find out about the ways of life all aroun..."
I hope so too. Still getting around the group :)

By joining this group, I hope to discover new authors and expand my world of crime fiction characters.

I'm 19yrs old from England..I'm addicted to books, tea and art..i love painting, drawing, sewing knitting the list is endless! i'd love to make new friends on here so add me if you'd like :)

I wrote 2 books, "Scrapbook of Motherhood Firsts" and "Scrapbook of Christmas Firsts" and these are NOT mysteries ha ha.
Nice to meet y'all.

Book-wise, I love: J.A. Konrath, George R.R. Martin, M. John Harrison, Jeanette Winterson, Steven Brust, China Mieville, and Neil Gaiman. As you can see, I lean heavily towards fantasy! However, I love the TV show Criminal Minds, and Konrath is a huge influence on me. I would dearly love recommendations for other compelling suspenseful reads, esp involving serial killers. When I read the 3rd book in Konrath's Jack Daniels series, I was exclaiming out loud! I actually hid my eyes and peeked out through my fingers while I read, :) I'm very excited about this group so I can fatten up my bookshelf.

You could say I'm addicted to mystery because of the adrenaline rush. Seeing as I love the art of performing, my mind is always looking for a way to get that nervous rush that kicks in when someone is faced with the unknown. For some strange reason, I love it when my hands are shaking and my knees are knocking together, when my breathing becomes shallow and my whole body trembles like a leaf. The instant high of it all just captivates me, and I'm always looking for the next thrill I can get! Hopefully this group could provide this next thrill for me!

I'm brand new to the group. I write crime/suspense fiction. My two novels, Dark as Night, and Killer's Coda, were released in March. So obviously I'm a big fan of the genre.
My favorite authors in the genre are Elmore Leonard, James Ellroy, David Goodis, Raymond Chandler, and Jim Thompson. I also appreciate some of the more contemporary guys like Dennis Lehane and George Pelecanos.
Looking forward to the group's discussions. And if you're so inclined, please check out my books. I'd love to get your feedback on them.
Thanks,
Mark

I adore reading :) I don't know of a better way to put that. I always have at least three or four books in progress, and my "to-read" list grows so much faster than I can keep up. I have been really into true crime lately, as well as forensic science, behavior analysis and criminal profiling. There is no point in trying to list my favorite authors; there are just too many :)

John--I have to say I have always secretly held a fantasy of being a P.I.
Becca--Three jobs!! You must be exhausted. Good luck with your move. I have heard Sacramento in the summer feels like the outer rings of hell but it feels like that here in LA too.
Also "Welcome" to others who joined the group today but have not posted a note on the boards.

Why do books take up so many boxes? Just because I have a thousand or so.

Thanks!! We are really excited :) I could certainly do without the packing part. It's almost heartbreaking in that I've had to donate over half of my library to the local library. At least I know that the several hundred volumes I gave up will be enjoyed by someone else. The whole process has certainly made me appreciate ebooks- they won't rack up any extra moving costs ;)

I am Harshvardhan From Pune, IND. I like to read books. so i am here to know which books are better to read.

Hi Harsh I am Aditya from Kolkata & welcome to the group. If you want book suggestions you can start with the books that have been selected as group reads. If you specify a genre members would be able to suggest books more in-keeping with your tastes.

I am Neville, 63 years young, 2 daughters, 2 granddaughters.
Love reading Donna Leon, Jeffery Deaver, Robert B Parker, James Patterson, Robert Crais and all English police detective novels, e.g. Elizabeth George, RD Wingfield, PD James, Ruth Rendell, Sally Spencer etc. Especially Graham Hurley's Faraday series.
Now into the Scandinavian authors after the Millenium Trilogy (read all Camilla Lackberg I could get).
I have read too many varied authors and genres in my life that I have probably forgotten most of them.
I travel 2 hours a day on trains and buses and read to relax before and after work (work in IS development and support on major manufacturing and business systems , so on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week).
I read on a Kindle as it is so easy to carry, seeing I have to carry a laptop all the time.
Looking forward to finding out about new authors.

I am a Chandler Fan,
Raymond Chandler
but I also noticed there has been no mention of Edmund Crispin, from others. He wrote locked room mysteries, Edmund Crispin
his most famous was, The Moving Toyshop
I also like Val McDermid who to me writes good novels that one can get your teeth into.
I have written a full length thriller/whodunit, which has had the numerous rejections and needs re-editing, lots of good feedback, well written but over written, so hence needs culling, and tightening up.
I still keep writing but it has mainly been History and I am published in Ebooks which is selling very well.

Welcome to MCT, Mark!

I'm enjoying reading these introductions. I honestly don't remember if I posted one or not but I don't see it so here goes. I'm a book publicist by day, a psychologist/criminologist by degree, and an author by choice. I've loved books ever since I discovered Trixie Beldon and Cherry Ames in the Bookmobile that parked in front of our house the summer before 1st grade. My tastes have broadened somewhat and I enjoy a wide variety of genres, provided they're well written. Errors tend to jump at me so I appreciate good editing.
I look forward to meeting more of you and getting to know you!

An avid reader, I read a lot of new writers. Sometimes I'm disappointed several times in a row, and sometimes I'm really delighted with a new author. And then sometimes I run to my favorites--an eclectic group that includes Don Winslow, David Corbett, Rhys Bowen, Sophie Littlefield, Catriona MacPherson, Robert Crais, Cornelia Read, Camilla Lackberg, Peter Robinson...as you can see my taste ranges all over the place. I enjoy cozies and police procedurals and thrillers, depending on my mood
I'm also a writer, but more about that another time.

i have been a goodreads member for a while and just started taking part in the discussions. I am pretty new to this. I have loved reading since visiting the bookmobile as a child in southwest wisconsin. I love mystery/thrillers but like all books except for tearjerkers or historical romances. Recently my daughters introduced me to ya dystopian novels. I am a pharmacist/clinical director(free clinic) but rarely like medical mysteries. I am active in 4-H. I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, a husband, and 2 daughters. I love signing up for give away books! it is so exciting to get a new book in the mail.

My favorite authors are Robert B Parker, Clive Cussler, Preston & Lincoln. This looks like a fun group.

I've not. Shoot me some titles and I will give hime a try. Thanks alot.

I'm going to try Thorns On Roses first, since it takes place in Broward County. My wife was with the clerk of courts in Broward for 30+ years. thanks again for the suggestion.

I am currently writing a couple other novels. One a paranormal novel titled Beyond The Grave, a novels of secrets past.
Thank you for accepting me in your group!
God Bless!

James Lee Burke
Reginald Hill
Carl Hiaasen
Henning Mankell
Martha Grimes
Jo Nesbo
I'm always looking for books like these authors write. I hope to meet other readers with similar tastes since the folks here are usually readers of Dan Brown and James Patterson, both of whom I ardently dislike though for different reasons.

Hi Micky, Have you read any of Carl Hiaasen's books? I don't love all of them but they're kind of a hoot. Funny as well as crime oriented. He sets most of them in Florida.
All the best, H.P.

Hi - I am new to the group. I love thrillers and mysteries. I am especially a fan of SJ Bolton's Lacey Flint series - I can't get enough of these books. Lately I've also enjoyed Elly Griffith's series about Ruth Galloway, the forensic archaeologist and I enjoy Jim Kelly's Phillip Dryden series. I'm always open to recommendations. I'm a middle aged broad living in Connecticut and I imagine myself a washed up rock star, but in truth, I sang briefly in a rock band in the 90's then decided I like a routine, 9-5 kind of life. Clearly, I get all my excitement from crime/thriller/mystery novels - and I like it that way.
One last tidbit, Boston is the greatest city ever. Go Bruins!
Nice to meet you all,
Lesley/Lester
