Patti Houghton wolcott | 2 comments Hello Everyone I am a 50 year old grandmother from massachusetts and an avid reader. Love the Lee Child ( Reacher) novels as well as Nelson DeMille, Greg Iles and Patricia Cornwell. David Rosenfelt is one of my very favorites as I love the humor in his stories. So nice to see there are so many out there like me who thoroughly enjoy a good story!

message 1955: by Jill (new)

Jill Kramer (jillkramer) I'm Jill, I'm mostly a non-genre fiction reader. I love anything with great characters and a plot that grabs me. And when writers can make me laugh I'll follow them anywhere. Does Carl Hiassen count as a "crime writer"? But laughter isn't necessarily a requirement. Right now I'm reading Live by Night and enjoying it and only laughing occasionally.

I also write. I know, I know, GR is crawling with writers, like vermin, but I promise not to pitch at you. I wasn't thinking about genre when I wrote my novel, but I suppose you could call it a crime novel. There's a crime, then a courtroom resolution. Reviewers here have compared it to a Law & Order episode. Not that I'm pitching or anything. Just introducing myself. Hi!

Kirsten (kmcripn) | 31 comments Hi, all! My name is Kirsten. I am 47 and live in eastern Washington State. I love mysteries and spy thrillers. I especially love historicals, cozies, British, and quirky ones. Some of my favorite series are Hamish Macbeth, JP Beaumont, Inspector O, Guido Brunetti, Inspector Lynley, Harry Bosch, and many more I'm sure!

I am disabled and live with my parents and two dogs. I love reading by Kindle and audiobook as well as good old fashioned hard copy.

I also love science fiction, historical fiction, history (nonfiction), gothic fiction, books about dogs, books set in the Pacific Northwest, romantic suspense.

Really enjoying this group so far.

Donald Scott (writeondon) | 87 comments Hi, my name is Don, I'm a writer living just outside Chicago and have loved to read all my life ... but at the age of 12, when I happened upon 'Murder on the Orient Express' by Agatha Christie (just as the film was about to debut in theaters - man, that dates me!), I got absolutely HOOKED on mysteries (although I did read Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and Encyclopedia Brown as a kid). About 99% of what I read is fiction, all genres and even mainstream, but mysteries will always be my first love - as is Agatha Christie, the brilliant lady who started this sweet, sweet obsession.

message 1960: by Donald (new)

Donald Scott (writeondon) | 87 comments Thanks, Jenni - yes, far as mysteries go I am ALWAYS looking for a well-written new series to get into - I guess cozies, especially.

C.B. Pratt (cbpratt) | 4 comments I'm C.B.Pratt, a writer but not a mystery writer. It's my favorite genre, esp. vintage mysteries, and I don't dare start writing mysteries because then what would I read? I hope I can continue to resist the temptation.

I'm currently trying to sell my house, while e-pubbing, and, as if that weren't enough, I just discovered this great site where people have actually heard of the books I love to read! My favorites include Patricia Wentworth, Georgette Heyer's mysteries, and others of the Golden Age.

I also enjoy some modern writers with that 'antique' feeling, including Sarah Caudwell and Christopher Fowler's Bryant and May series. Some history-mysteries find their way to my shelves as well.

I don't enjoy books with torture, serial killers, and too much forensics. I read for puzzles, not for gore and squidgy bits. I emphatically will not read about children-in-jeopardy.

I'm really enjoying reading other people's reviews of the books I enjoy...esp. the more obscure ones.

That's very interesting. A while ago we started a thread about books written by multiple writers. However, this seems like a very new and strange idea. Do more than one write the same book together, or do you write your book individually, but publish under the same name? It's generally the other way round: the same writer has multiple pen names. i don't thnk that this has been done before, has it?

Hey Jac, I apologise for the late reply. I don't think it's been done before. It's kind of like making a movie; we break a big idea down for individuals to work on. From there I have the responsibility as the Lead Writer to put the words down on the page.

A better explanation can be found at http://swiftjames.com/about/

The multiple writers' thread sounds interesting; I'll look around for it.

Samira (tnayotahc) | 2 comments Hey,
I'm a 15 year old girl from Germany. I love reading and I love writing, although I am better in it in german than in english, which is logical, as german is my mothertounge.
I like the Dan Brown Thrillers and Harry Potter, which is also written in my profile.
I wondered why it says that I still have more than 11000 characters left, but actually I think that that's pretty cool, as usually you are not allowed to write more than 100 character... :))

Message me :)

Do you need to read the books in order? I presume from your comment that there is a series. Will check on GR, but look forward to hearing your opinion. Thanks.

C.B. Pratt (cbpratt) | 4 comments Jac -- I haven't read any myself - yet - but I've heard good things about an Australian author named Kerry Greenwood who writes a series set in 1920's Melbourne. P.S. Just down loaded the 1st one -- Cocaine Blues -- for .99 on Nook.

Mathys and Rod -- I'm sure you've both read Alastair McLean's Guns of Navaronne and When Eagles Dare? Great characters and thrilling action.

Hi everyone,

My name is Antonello Fiore. I live in Montreal, Canada. I am new to the group. I love to read thriller, mystery, and crime novels. My favorite authors include James Patterson and Dan Brown. They are the reasons why I decided to write my first thriller novel, Killer Rumors.

Since I have a Bachelor's Degree in Theology and Religion and my passion for thriller novels, I decided to blend my two passions into one.

I look forward interacting with the rest of you. Happy reading!

Patricia Gale | 1 comments I am the principal of a small charter school in Southern Arizona. I love mysteries and thrillers. I have always said that someone must die within the 10 pages to keep my interest and something else pretty exciting. I just finished Dan Brown's Infreno and have started Beautiful Creatures so I know what my older students are talking about. I am always looking for something new to read, so I am looking forward to seeing what other people are reading and chatting about them.

I just graduated with my Masters and am in the job hunt process so I have plenty of time to catch up on my reading while I'm looking. I love mystery and thrillers (duh!) and my current obsession is probably Gillian Flynn. Of course, apart from mystery and thrillers, I also love the classic fiction and literature and historical fiction. I probably read everything and anything I can, with the exception of most romance novels. :)

PrimalAwakening | 3 comments Hi All!
I'm from Sydney Australia and I am more of an eclectic reader. I love many types of genre and of course enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers. I have so many favourites and I wouldn't know where to begin. I've read the whole Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay and like reading Michael Connelly novels as well.I've already read The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton which seems to be on your reading list and enjoyed it thoroughly. I've also read Dogstar Rising by Parker Bilal and think it's worth the read. I've recently won Close My Eyes by Sophie Mckenzie on another site and can't wait to read it. Right now I'm reading The Twins by first time novelist Saskia Sarginson and it's actually not bad so far. Hope to contribute more soon. Happy reading to everyone.

MissConfusion17 | 1 comments Hello everybody,
I'm new to this group and just wanted to say hello. I'm a teacher from Germany. I love good Crime novels (but also other genres), especially by Jeffery Deaver, Simon Beckett and Dan Brown. At the moment I'm reading the 3rd of the Peter Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch, which is quite entertaining. Next on my list is either another Jeffery Deaver or Dan Brown novel.
Reading is my favorite pastime, but sometimes I'm a lazy ready though and seem to take ages finishing a book, and sometimes I read 4 books in 1 month :D

Looking foward to interesting book discussions :D
