peg (mcicutti) Jenni, I feel that way when we are having disagreeable weather. Our winter this year has been fairly mild and right now I am enjoying unseasonably warm temperatures. However, I'm sure that I wouldn't enjoy the amount of rain you are experiencing right now. We had our fair share of rain during the last hurricane.

I look forward to reading mysteries with this group and appreciate the invitation to join from Jenni.

Shaheryar Ahmed | 2 comments Hi everyone. My name is Shaheryar and I am 25 years old from Pakistan. Answering the favourite author and book question would be difficult but I just read American Gods by Neil Gaiman which I just loved. My favourite genres would be fantasy, psychological (A Clockwork Orange, Metamorphosis etc.), crime and thrillers, mysteries, philosophical etc.

I am a film-maker and I believe that my love of books and stories made me go towards this path. Telling stories is what I do and always wanted to do. Looking forward to know you guys better and help each other out. Happy Reading!

message 169: by Rob (new)

message 170: by Mike (new)

Mike Greeting, fellow readers! Just joined the group today. I've been a member of the Mystery, Crime and Thriller group and have really enjoyed discovering new authors on there. I've been a Sandford and Child fan for ages, but recently have begun investing in Coben, Cain, Flynn, Deaver, Nesbo, and Connolly. On my TBR list I have Berenson, Vachss, Thor, Hiaasen, McFadyen, Baldacci, Hurwitz, Iles, Rankin, Burke, Bass, Barclay, Flynn, Dekker, Landay, French, T J Parker, McDermid, Block and Hayder.
Mistry,

message 171: by John (new)

John Everson (johneverson) Hi everyone! I'm an obsessive fan of hot peppers and cold English ale! I'm also a horror/thriller/dark fantasy novelist from Chicago. My first five novels were released in mass market by Leisure Books, and the first one actually won a Bram Stoker Award when it was released (COVENANT). Since the crash-and-burn of Leisure Books last year, my catalogue is now on Amazon's 47North imprint, and my latest erotic horror novel, NIGHTWHERE, is out from Samhain.

Amazon actually chose a couple of my backlist titles, SACRIFICE and THE 13TH to put on their Hot 100 Kindle Sale in the Mystery and Thrillers category this month, so I guess I should post something about that in the promotions thread!

message 172: by Rob (new)

Rob Twinem (runner56) Welcome John and Mike. John I keep meaning to read some of your work and now that you have joined our happy band I will do so with some urgency...I am a great fan of Greg Gifune...amazing and I also recommend Gary Mcmahon as a no 1 British talent...
Mike that is one fantastic reading list you have with lots of the old favourites in there

message 173: by John (new)

John Everson (johneverson) Hi Jenni!

Good to meet you! Yep, my backlist is part of Amazon's much ballyhooed publishing company. 47 North is Amazon's SF/F/H imprint. They also run Thomas & Mercer for mysteries and thrillers and Montlake Romance.

Hey Trev!

Good to meet you too! I've published Gary McMahon's work as part of my Dark Arts Books imprint - he's great! And I really loved Greg's THE BLEEDING SEASON (have to admit, I haven't kept up with his recent books -- just haven't been able to read like I used to the past couple years!)

message 174: by John (new)

John Everson (johneverson) Yeah, they are walking on monopoly ground there. But the entire industry is up for grabs right now anyway! My original publisher, Leisure Books, was put out of business after 40 years as a mass market publisher -- because they didn't adapt and capitalize on the ebook revolution fast enough. :-/

Other than that most of my work is very experimental as of now, as it was part of my time in film school. However, whatever narrative work I do now will be posted and will be shared with everybody.

Michele (micheleruns) | 8 comments Hello all,
My name is Michele and I live in Knoxville, Tennessee. I am 47 and just recently graduated from Strayer University...so glad to be done with school so I can read more books for pleasure. I work for a large engineering firm in the Human Resource Service Center.

I love to read, of course, and love to run. I have been completing an average of two half-marathons a year. I have just picked back up on regular running. I used to run full marathons but too stressful on the body.

My favorite authors are Stephen King (older stuff), Lisa Gardner, Patricia Cornwell, etc. I love forensics, murder mysteries and scary stuff!

Look forward to seeing more posts!

message 185: by Jeri (new)

Jeri Hi, I am Jeri. Dentist in North Carolina. Mid 50's, two grown sons, wonderful husband of 31 years. While I am at work I enjoy thinking about the books I am reading . I usually have an audio book and and a "hand" book going at the same time. I just discovered Robert Crais. I know, where have I been? Listened to Demolition Angel on audio and am now reading the backlist. I have a Kindle, but read a lot of books from the library. Figure that I already paid for them! I like to read series, where I can watch the characters grow and change. Currently reading Stuart Macbride, starting with 'Cold Granite'. Love Susan Hill, and every Nora Roberts JD Robb book. 'The Dark Winter' by David Mark was excellent as well. I am so glad to have a record of what I have read. Very handy. Have not read Gone Girl yet, but plan to!

Laurie (tolepainter) | 39 comments Hi everyone, I'd like to introduce myself. I live in eastern Ontario, am married and have 5 grown sons and 5 grandkids. I'm a decorative artist and in my spare time love to read.My favorite books are mysteries and I love hearing about new books and authors I have not read. Not really into vampire books and things like that or the sappy sweet mystery romance. Have a good day and happy reading.

message 191: by Bill (new)

message 193: by Mike (new)

Mike Hello, everyone.

I'm a long time fan of Elmore Leonard and Lawrence Block, and starting to get into Carl Hiaasen, and Dennis Lehane. I have a great fondness for kooky, eccentric and just plain weird characters in fiction. Always open to suggestions for new authors.

I tend to go more for detective/crime novels than anything else but I also like good psychological thrillers and the kind of mysteries that put everything in front of the reader to see if they can solve it before the hero does (there's probably a term for that but I don't remember it or never knew it to begin with).

Welcome to the group Mike.
I love Carl Hiassen too! I like quirky, weird stuff too.

message 195: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (thedahliascene) Thanks for the warm welcome all. Mary Higgins Clark is definitely one I highly recommend. She is known as the Queen of suspense after all. As far as whether or not men read those two authors, I'd like to think that neither appeal to women only. The stories are compelling and the characters are strong. They also aren't always female centric.

message 196: by KME (new)

KME (ljsupafly) | 3 comments Hey everyone! I've been browsing goodreads and have been a bookworm forever so I don't know why I never thought to join the community years ago. O:-) Anyways, thanks for the welcome greetings! I'm new to the site as an official user and my favorite genres are memoirs/biographies, romance/erotica, poetry, crime thriller/mystery, and if there's a romance crime thriller, all the better! Currently I'm getting through James Patterson's Women's Murder Club/Alex Cross Series and J.D. Robb's In Death Series. In between I've been sneaking guilty pleasure contemporary romances and I'll stick a classic or two in there for variety. I'm the type to reread books if I really love them, especially poetry. My go to authors for inspiration and calm include Maya Angelou and Paulo Coelho. I've been rating books and looking at lists for too many hours today... I tend to read more than one book at a time too (as you can see in my "currently reading" list) I love reading book series and I always read a book before seeing the movie! I love to share my thoughts/opinions and have yet to post some book reviews. Nice to meet ya! ;)
