Birgitte Rasine (birgitte_rasine) Hi Everyone,

Just joined this group late at night yesterday (perfect timing for a "Mysteries" group no....?)

I'm a Czech-American author with four published titles to my name so far, one of which, "Verse in Arabic" is a historical mystery crime novella set in Spain in the 1940's during General Franco's reign. It's inspired by a real-life event so bizarre it wouldn't let go till I wrote the story. (I hope it is ok to mention my book, I read other intro comments to make sure.)

I'm intrigued by the role history and its mother, time, play in literature. I write about the inconvenient truths about the human psyche and the human experience... and that tends to be what I greatly prefer to read as well.

Looking forward to participating in the group!

Birgitte Rasine

Welcome Birgitte.

Macarena (followed that rabbit) (xcrazydiamondx) Thanks Leigh, Connie, and Jac.

Jac wrote: "There's a famous song with your name in the title, right? I love that song. I would lov to tour Argentina and Cile - south America in general [...]"

Yes, that's right! There's a song called Macarena by the Spanish duo Los del Río. It was very popular when I was a child, and every time I had to introduce myself, someone would sing the chorus of this song... Oh my! It was kind of traumatic! LOL :D
If you have the chance, I think you should definitely travel to South America :)

Sue (coccotoro) | -359 comments Hi Macarena,

My husband was born in Mendoza, Argentina, but has lived most of his life in Toronto. We talk to his family everyday, and last year he took me to Argentina for the first time for a month, going to 3 cities and enjoying the climate, scenery but most of all the friendly laid-back people. They have no stress there, they live for today. The wine and asado (Beef) are fabulous. It was the trip of a lifetime, and I will definitely go back.

Mary Hello everyone. I joined Goodreads years ago but never really got into the site. Now that I've moved to small town NY, I am missing my book fix and discussion. I'm so glad to find so many active threads on here.
I'm a seamstress/fiber artist, trying to learn how to make a real living at what I love to do.
I read mostly mystery, with several other genre thrown in ever now and again.
thanks

Laurel (goodreadscomboddy_l) | 117 comments Roy wrote: "Hi, Im from Northampton in the UK, I'm cold because summer has already deserted us. on top of that, a heron has ate all my fish."

Hi, Roy. I live just east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We have a large pond with 2 waterfalls as part of our gardens. A very large great blue heron has made our pond koi and Red Comets his personal buffet. The early spring - now- is the most dangerous because the floating plants are still too small and haven't multiplied enough to cover much of the pond's surface. We have tried a fake heron, we have strung fishing line around the borders of the pond and we have an electronic water sprayer that sprays when motion is detected. None has been an effective method! We now buy cheaper fish, and hope for the best.

Welcome to GR! It is a great place and your TBR LIST will grow in a hurry. Do you have favourite authors or genres?

Ceej | 12 comments Hi, I am Cj. I too enjoy a great mystery, thriller and sometimes I want something very easy to read that requires little to no thought. Most people turn to tv for that but there just isn't a lot of television that I can sit through without doing something else too. lol

I started out reading "The lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", "Little House on the Prairie" and Nancy Drew Mysteries. My tastes are still just a varied!

I've been reading mysteries since I was 12, starting with Agatha Christie. Latest loves are Louise Penny (yay, Canada!), Donna Leone. Love Peter Robinson, Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes, PD James, Val McDermid, Karin Slaughter. I'm looking forward to reading everyone's recommendations.

message 1781: by J. (new)

J. (jguenther) Greets, all. I'm from Los Angeles, and I'm working on a screenplay. But that's sort of redundant, isn't it? Okay, it's a mystery screenplay. I'm also working on a Western/Mystery/Romance novel. And a short magic/fantasy stage play called Green Dragon Drool.

I like mysteries by M C Beaton, Colin Dexter, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur Conan Doyle.

I blog at JGuentherAuthor.wordpress.com.
