Introductions

I have loved to read as long as I can remember. These days, I don't read nearly as much as I'd like to. As a child, I loved Nancy Drew (I wonder what happened to my collection?) and Agatha Christie. I have many favorite authors; for the mystery genre, I enjoy David Baldacci, Linda Fairstein, Tess Gerritsen, John Grisham, Steve Martini, James Patterson, Kathy Reichs, and Lisa Scottoline. I also enjoy the more lighthearted Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich and the Kinsey Millhone series by Sue Grafton.
I am a sucker for bargain books and as a result have over 150 books I have not read. When I retire, I'm going to the beach to read for months! :)

Thanks for the kind welcome from the UK. I am hoping to have many enjoyable discussions here, make some new friends and learn about tons of books to read.

Hi Vince - It's a 1956 movie (story written for the movie), with roots in The Tempest. Details on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbidde...

Prior to my marriage 8 years ago my career sent me all over the globe. Now I consult and we split our time between the city and my family's ranch in Texas.
I am an avid bookworm and read constantly, but mysteries and thrillers are my favourites.
Besides reading I love my Poodles! They are Standard corded and are pulling, gun dog and agility champions, respectively. We also have a rescue toy and a rescue service one for my husband.
I enjoy flying and have had a pilot's licence forever. The HN (High Nerd) and I enjoy Thunder Roadster Racing and rallying. We also took up ballroom dancing after my husband's accident for rehab therapy and have a serious passion for the the tango. I also practise trapezee and silks (aerial yoga).
One of our favourite past times is to head up to the ranch with the pups, hole up and enjoy fine food, whiskey and pass the time curled up reading. I am always on the lookout for new mysteries authors and appreciate any recommendations.

I'm Michelle living in the beautiful South Bay of Southern California. I've been an avid reader all my life, sometimes to the detriment of my social life! My parents favorite punishment for me when I was younger was to ground me from going to the library and, if you ask my mother, I've always had a very upset stomach (wonder if she's found all those books smushed between the towels in the bathroom!).
My favorite genres are mystery and historical fiction and non-fiction. For me personally, I'm not sure any mystery author has come close to Agatha Christie but I do enjoy Tana French and Michael Connelly. Looking forward to discovering new authors!

Michelle--nice to have another Southern California native.
Matt--Aren't you glad the NHL strike is over?

Great to have you with us.

Hi P..."
Hi Paul, Thanks for that info. If I get a chance I will take a look at the Tempest. In college I took Brit Lit, but don't believe that they focused on Shakespeare. I remember a play that I saw in high school done by a traveling Broadway Tour group called "Do Your Own Thing" which was supposed to be based upon one of Shakespeares plays, but the highlight of that play was the lead actress taking off her blouse. Which was far more memorable to a 15 year old.

Thanks for the welcome Jim and you are right it has been soggy for the last couple of days. Luckily, I have not had to go out much and am staying inside as much as possible. Looking forward to reading with this group.

Thanks for the welcome Trev, I don't know if my life is that exciting, but I enjoy it to the hilt with my husband and the pups. My maternal grandparents were British and I spent a lot of time across the pond as a child and for my work. Looking forward to reading your comments.

I went to wrong high school.

I used to live in Orange County as well! Actually I've lived in quite a few places in Southern California. I love it here, although, having just recently been to the East Coast (specifically Maine) I have to say I think I liked the East better. I'm a fan of fog, rain and cold and all the historical buildings back East are lovely as is the landscape. There is just such a completely different vibe from California, hard to put your finger on, but it definitely sets a different tone. Perfect for reading mysteries by a fire!

I'm a voracious reader. And, yes, I also read non-fiction.

A newbie to the group. I was invited and joined some weeks back. I live in Northern Virginia, USA. I read all kinds of fiction. Thrillers are my favorite!

summer must be hear now though...as it hasn't rained for a week....sssshhhh.....now i've said that it will prob rain at the weekend!

I love to read and do a lot of audio books also because of an eye problem. But thank the Lord for Kindles and iPads that make reading so much easier with the font adjustments. But I still miss the smell of real books when I use them.
We have had a lot of cold weather and plenty of snow. Going for a warm up in the next couple of days.
I am interested in trying some of the books you all have read. I tend to stay with the same author over and over again. I get in a rut. I am not sure where I place in Mystery books? I tend to like them all I think? My favorite authors to date are James Patterson, Catherine Coutler, Joy Fielding, Iris Johansen, Lisa Jackson, I even step into the world once in a while of Kay Hooper & Greg Isles. I like Mary Higgins Clark and Sandra Brown. Would you call me a soft Mystery reader? But I am on an adventure to broaden my mystery world.
Thanks for including me. Let the reading begin.

Welcome Karolyn....you are so right about the smell of books...I use a kindle as well but I love walking into bookshops old or new...just for the feel and smell :)

I'm from Cardiff, South Wales and am a former newspaper and BBC journalist and police press officer. I'm now attempting to be a full-time writer as my first two psychological thrillers have been published by Cutting Edge Press (London)in 2012. Don't worry, I'm not trying to flog you anything, I just discovered Goodreads and love to chat about all sorts of books and see what everyone thinks. I like crime/thrillers obviously but am partial to contemporary, sci-fi and classics. I read about a book a week so like variety!

Hah, some years it starts in September and lasts until May. I laugh when people wish for that White Christmas - be careful what you wish for.
