It's a pleasure to have you join us Patty! I don't know that we've got anyone from Vermont yet! I wish that I had such a love of reading when I was little, that why I always try to push reading with my kids! Nobody bothered with me, and I regret that now!

I joined Goodreads about a few days ago, originally as a way to market a new mystery book I'm publishing ("Halls of Ivy"), but what really got me to stay was all th..."
Thanks for jumping in and join us Roland! Another way you can find great books is by checking other member's bookshelves! I certainly hope that you find some great new reads, as I am sure that you will!

Welcome Mary! What I wouldn't give for a 24 acre farm and horses! I'd have as many as I could and would probably never come in (which is completely the opposite of what I am now!)
Your readings interests sound great, so I'm going to have to check some of your lists out!

Hi Patty- You're way up there. Though I'm not a true Vermonter by present residence, my ancestral claim to the Green Mountains State comes to me via Bennington. Battle of Bennington, 10th Vermont Vol, a street named after my great X2 grand pa... and all that. Glad that you joined us

Welcome to MCT, Susan! You will certainly find plenty of recommended mysteries and thrillers in this group. We are excited to have a new reading friend and look forward to getting to know you better. ; )

I love books of all genres but mysteries and thrillers are some of my favorites to get into, especially during summers when I'm all about quicker reads that will keep me up all night.
I live in NJ and am a law student by night and mental health counselor even later at night (yay overnight shifts) so I get lots of reading done when I need to procrastinate at school or get through certain hours at the job.
I've been on Goodreads a few years now and have become more active as of late since deactivating my facebook. I'm interested in meeting other readers and book lovers since there always seems to be a dearth of those in my "real life".
I'm currently reading The Interestings and A Game of Thrones. :)

My name is David. I live in southern Spain where I teach English. I like most books, though I do tend to lean heavily towards thriller and mystery novels - so much so, I wrote one.
I look forward to reading your discussions and, whenever time allows, I shall attempt to contribute! : D

My name is Lisa. I am an American born in Ct, but currently living in London,Uk.
I have been married to an Englishman named Brian for the last 14 years.
I have worked at my current job for the last 29 years in a well known UK retaillers.
I love reading. I started out reading murder mysteries and thrillers but then discovered 50 Shades and that opened up a whole new genre for me. Reading along with watching tv is my way of relaxing. I have also been fortunate to see a lot of the world.

Thanks! I just got promoted to author status yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to edit the book page. That's my plan for today.

Let's try this again. (I replied to the wrong post before)
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll do that!

Hi, Jenny;
Thanks!
The weather is slightly hazy, but really warm today, so we went to the beach earlier. No, no - I was born in Brussels, though moved here soon after; then we went to the U.K. and now I'm back, lol.
Well, I hope not to disappoint, lol. Let's start with a classic favourite - Sherlock Holmes. : )

Welcome to our group Nina! I'm sure you'll find wonderful people here to chat about books! You're job sounds quite interesting but anything with crime and the mind intriques me!

Welcome David! I would soooo love to travel to Spain at some point in my life!
We seem to have quite a lot of English teachers in here...I better straighten up!

Sounds excellent. Alas, I've already got the complete works, but that's a fantastic thing to do : D

Welcome to the group Martin! If you need any help at all, just let one of us know!

Hi -Being once a teacher myself, it must be great working in Spain. At least you don't have to drive in snow in the early morning hours for your fist class of the day.

Nice blurb on The Interestings. It's more like general fiction, right? I love literary and general fiction too...."
Yeah I purchased it without knowing too much about it since I didn't want reviews to sway my opinion on it. It started off seemingly like a coming of age story but very quickly veered into general fiction/drama. But the prose is really nice and easy to read.
I'm looking forward to the end of exams so I can devour books each month with you guys! Like I said, summer is my favorite time for mysteries/thrillers and I've already marked a few browsing through this group's shelf that look interesting.

I am new to Goodreads and am looking forward to getting involved.
I love crime thrillers, particularly Colin Dexter and Mark Billingham. Lynda La Plante too but Mark Billingham is probably my first choice. I try to save his for my holidays but I have read them all now! I will add them to my bookshelf and review them (without plot spoiling!).
I also enjoy writing and have recently published my first crime novel. When I am not doing that (and working in my day job), I am fishing, playing golf and walking my dogs.
Regards to all,
Damien

Thanks!
My book is called As The Crow Flies. It was published 9.4.13 and is live on the Kindle, paperback follows next week.

Hi, my name is Laurel, and I am new to the group. I just noticed Saskatoon, and had to read on! Another Canuck! I live about 40 miles east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am a retired elementary school teacher and life long reader. I love mysteries, historical fiction, and nonfiction relation to US and British history, Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt, too. Also fiction relating to the last two. Looking forward to getting to know you and everybody in the group. I am sure I will learn about lots of new books to add to my TBR list.

Speaking of Henry VIII, a few years ago, I ordered a beautiful counted cross stitch kit of Henry, with all of his queens in their beautiful court gowns, all gathered around him, from England. Couldn't buy it here. Anyway, I have not started it yet, since I cannot figure out how to do cross stitch, knitting, scrapbooking, and reading, all at the same time. Since I joined Goodreads in Jan., I have not got much done, other than read, and add even more books to my list. And soon, it will be time to get busy in our large garden.
We had snow here today!
Thanks for the welcome. Look forward to talking to you and others really soon, and finding lots of great new books.

Welcome aboard. We're an interesting group. Glad to have you. I am also a mystery-American Civil War- history buff. You'll fit right in.

Thanks, Jack. Looking forward to chatting and lots of great reads!

Yes, not every mystery story has to be about Vampires, even though it seems like it sometimes And welcome aboard..

Hi, Terry, from another Canuck!
