Jim

Although I am originally from Michigan, I moved to San Diego, California for a job in 1986 and stayed there (San Diego, not the job) for 20 years. I didn't intend to stay so long, but San Diego is a hard place to leave.
I like to read many types of books, although mysteries and crime thrillers are some of my favorites.

Thanks for having me!

So glad that you are here with us.

My pleasure, Trev!

I'm just a few miles north of NYC, and still repairing my home after it was it with two trees courtesy of Hurricane Sandy.

Hey, if a skeleton turns up behind some broken panel in the attic, maybe I'll have the makings of a good story ... :)

Awww. Do post pictures. My neighbour is a cat breeder and one of them, a kitten, has found a home in my flat just by wo..."
I have to find some good ones. I am notorious for taking terrible pictures. My babies are named Boobie, Runtagious, and Miss Puddling (their Mom).

Even when I read another kind of genre, say a romance, I really can't read it unless it contains some kind of mystery. What's life without a mystery? :)

I'm Karin from Calgary. Have been an avid reader all my life and read anything and everything, usually have at least 2 books on the go. Right now I'm reading Killing Floor by Lee Child and Bitter Blood by Rachel Caine. I am always looking for new interesting reads and discovered Goodreads as a way to keep track of serials and books I want to read.
ps. after 13 years, getting married in October :-)
Take care
Karin

I'd say that's a magnificent compulsion.

Currently I'm reading something called "Out of Time, A Time Travel Mystery." I'm not sure what to make of it yet.

I think Agatha Christie is a great writer, and her
The Secret Adversary is on my top 25 all-time favorites list, maybe a little higher.
I haven't read any of Ellis Peters (Edith Pargeter) 's Cadfael books yet, but the TV series is one of my favorites.

Hope it goes well!

yeah, in retrospect, I rather wish I had eloped lol.

Jim

welcome to the group, lots of books you mentioned are on my fav list..I think Lee Childs as a British author has done a great job of making Reacher assessable to both the UK and USA market...one of the great modern book heroes :)

I am a practicing attorney (mainly a litigator) in Texas. Married with five children, all of whom I am very proud of, and I recently became a grandfather. I am constantly sleep deprived from reading late, watching movies (I love the Hammer films), or when the Stars (hockey) or Rangers (baseball) play on the West Coast (hate those 9:00pm CST starting times).
While I read mostly horror, I was introduced to Dame Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle at an early age. I remember staying up to watch Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce tear it up as Holmes and Watson and to this day I have trouble accepting any other actors in those roles. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for British mysteries and recently have started delving into this genre more deeply so I am looking forward to learning a lot and getting great suggestions from this group.
As far as writers in this genre I enjoy Lee Child, John Connolly, Dennis Lehane, Joe Lansdale, and James Lee Burke. I also mix in the classics and try to read at least a few Dame Agatha Christie novels per year in an effort to read the whole set and I am always re-reading the Sherlock Holmes stories and novels.
Looking forward to meeting you all and reading some great books---by the way, Gone Girl is a fantastic choice, brilliant book.

But I will read just about anything. I am a true bookworm.

So happy that you joined.
Jim

Welcome
Jim

Lehand is fantastic although I have read only one novel by him so far. I have read Live by Night---which is a historical crime novel set in Boston and Florida in the 20's and deals with Irish mobsters. Mystic River was highly recommended to me by friends and I have that one on my TBR to be read very soon.

As mentioned above I sometimes forget which groups I have introduced myself, as a member of a few groups.
I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands, where I have lived for 35 years. I wrote a frilm reference book in the 80's called Film Stars, Past, Present and Future, I am a mad film buff, book addict and also love my music. I collect signed autographs again a hobby for many years.
My collection of photos, favourite books, films, holidays and much more are on my web site www.thestarsphotos.com.
My wife and I also make and sell jewellery, her website is www.craftytrace.com.
My favourite authors, to name a few are Linwwod Barklay, Harlan Coben, Lee Childs, David Baldacci, Chris Ryan, Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen, John Grisham, James Patterson, Micael Connelly, Casey Hill.
Also just started my own group called The Good Thriller.
Please add me as a friend, always pleased to meet new friends
regards
Sean
