Welcome to our group!
Hi, guys - I'm so new it's ridiculous. I love this genre. I read it (love Alan Furst, Hammett, Chandler, Tom Rob Smith, and so many more). Love to write it (my first thriller comes out later in the year). And I love to chat about it. I've also lived it. Not kidding. I come from the ultimate Cold War family - daring escapes, backyard firing squads, communist snitches, bowlfuls of goulash, gargoyles, gray skies and bone-chilling cold. I love the stories I grew up hearing at my dinner table. I love black and white films and photos. I love the smell of whiskey and cigarette smoke on a man. And a tailored suit. I love rich, world-weary laughter, and a home with scratches on the wood floors and books piled up all over the place. Strong tea is good. Strong coffee is better. A strong man is the best. An old map of the world pinned to the wall – and two tickets to Buenos Aires in the top drawer – just in case.
And that's why I'm hear and I want to get to know you good people :)
Cheers and have a great weekend,
Vic

Welcome."Thanks, Jenni! Great to meet you. Not too many people still like cigarettes :) But whiskey's making a comeback!

I'm listening to Dark Places on audio, starting out A Monster Calls on Kindle and The Snow Child in hardback!! Yourself?
I just finished Death and Transfiguration by Gerald Elias and The Midwife's Tale by Sam Thomas. Both quite good. I couldn't put down Midwife's Tale and I wasn't sure it was my cup of tea.
Welcome Roxy - and I hear you about not having time to read. I've got three little ones myself. Phew! Look at the post above for my reading recommendations. What authors you like?
Neh - you're just a mother. I know the feeling. Start with London Boulevard. It's a great, contemporary noir and quick read.
Roxy wrote: "Thanks you :) I'm not so sure. I'm telling you... I'm out of touch with EVERYTHING! Hahaa I mean, I like the veteran thriller/suspense authors Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I used to read Lurlene M..."Welcome, Roxy! Words cannot express how much I love(d) Lurlene McDaniels. Sigh.
Right now I am reading It, The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America, Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever and Empty Promises and Other True Cases.
Roxy...welcome to the group!I was right there with you...I loved Lurlene McDaniels in high school! Don't Die My Love was my favorite!
Hi Everyone. I just retired so I'm now able to read more of all those accumulated books that I've purchased through the years that have been sitting on my bookshelf just waiting for this period in my life. Some of my favorite authors include: Follett, Connelly, Demille, Grippando, Meltzer & Stephen White. My tuxedo cat, Porter, is now especially happy sitting in my lap while I read.
Hello everyone!! My name is Kristina. I am a 33 year old, mother of 2 small children. I am a Geriatric Social Worker during the day and read books to relax at night. I would like to thank Jenni for the invitation. Looks like I am going to be reading a lot of great books in my future...

I haven't hear of The Midwife's Tale. I will have to check it out. It must be good if there are 8 people on the waiting list at my local library.

Hi! Joined group via invite from Ashton. My reading tastes are pretty eclectic, but always enjoy a good mystery/thriller. In this realm, my favorite authors read would be John Grisham, Harlan Coben and Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. Grew up enjoying Agatha Christie and Mary Higgins Clark. I live in Orlando, Florida and work from home for a cruise travel agency. I enjoy reading, movies, TV, tennis, and musical theater. Have not joined any group reading discussions yet but been a member of GoodReads for several years.
Welcome to all of our new friends this week! I love seeing all of the new faces and excitement about the group.
Jenni wrote: "I've added The Midwife's Tale to my to-read list."You won't be disappointed - and the author, Sam Thomas, is such a nice guy. I love supporting good people.
