Sarah Suzy (gohawks) | 10 comments Hello to my fellow Iowan, Richard! I'm still giggling over your stories. I was fortunate to work at Iowa Bk & Supply while going to college at the U of I. The only problem I had working there was I spent more money than what I earned while working. :) Do you have that problem??? I will be in the Quad Cities over the weekend! I may have to go book shopping. Glad you're part of the group. I would imagine you being a wealth of knowledge and fun stories!!

message 702: by Tony (new)

Tony Richardson | 9 comments Hi everyone. My name is Tony. I'm new to goodreads and I'm loving it for finding new authors.

I'm from New Jersey and read primarily mystery/crime fiction. Some of my favorite authors are Ken Bruen, Walter Moseley, Elmore Leonard, and George Pelecanos.

Looking forward to participating in the group.

Welcome Sarah, I never heard about Angelina playing Kay but I believe she is wrong for the part. I figured Kay to be a regular person not a Laura Croft type but you never know.

I was wondering what part of the state you lived in. I've curbed my book buying to a reasonable level.
Sadly I'm off this weekend.
I'm sad about Homer's Iliad is that it was from a college student for a class. All that money wasted

Nancy H | 17 comments Richard wrote: "thanks everyone for the warm greetings. One thing that always makes me chuckle is the messed up title we are given. "the eyelid" by some guy named Homer something. "tequila mockingbird" "Harry Pott..."

I know exactly what you mean - I just retired after 40 years in a high school, 37 of them as a librarian. We got the same thing - mangled titles, characters mixed up with the wrong authors, or my favorite, "I can't remember the title of the author, but the book was red." Fortunately, most times we were able to find that 'red' book!

Richard | 6 comments oh yeah the description. It was about World War 2 and had a train on the front. Maybe is was real? I also like the people that ask for the Non-fiction section.

One of my other favorites is "Can you help me find the book I was looking at yesterday? I'd like to check it out", with no other information from the patron! What is amazing is how many times I was actually able to find the right book for them!

message 713: by Angela (new)

Angela Holland (bookaunt) Hi my name is Angela and I am new to the group. I live in Florida but am from Nebraska. I am married for over 20 year and have two kids - ages soon to be 21 and 18. I am a paralegal working as a legal secretary. We have 3 inside cats, 2 outside cats and a spoiled dog. My parents live with us/we live with them, something that was necessary for expenses and my dad's health.

I am an avid book reader, collector and lover. I read pretty much all genres except for science fiction, horror and paranormal. My favorite genres are cozy mysteries, mystery, and historical fiction. I also collect bookmarks and postcards. My other hobby is scrapbooking and cardmaking but I have not done much of those lately as I can't seem to put my books down.

I look forward to being a part of this group.

Sarah Suzy (gohawks) | 10 comments Well Richard enJOY your weekend off! You're right about how sad to have so much money wasted!! I actually am living in Webster City where both of my parents grew up. I did not grow up here except for in the summers. We spent most of our summers at my grandparents until we were old enough to get into school activities and jobs and so forth. I think my favorite thing in Webster City is its library, The Kendall Young Library. It is truly magnificent. My grandma took me there as a child and helped me to get my first library card. It is truly a fabulous library and definitely one of the town's biggest assets! I remember my grandma finishing a book every night or every two nights. I'm so glad I'm now following in her footsteps and have developed an absolute love for reading!! Keep the funny stories coming from the bookstore! Take care Richard!

Angela Holland (bookaunt) Ashton wrote: "Do you keep the girls inside and the boys outside? Is that why you have 2 house cats and 2 garden ones?

Anyway, welcome. You'll have a good time here."

You pretty much guessed it, lol. All of our animals are rescued animals. The last three we brought home were two brothers and a sister. We had them all fixed but then the two boys started spraying so we had to put them out as we could not have them ruining the floors and furniture. They are feral cats so they are actually happier outside anyway and more friendly now. We kept their sister inside as well as we have another female and an older male inside.

Great minds think alike as they say. I can go by Angela Lynn on here that way it is less confusing. Lynn is my middle name. I don't like being called Angie so don't mind if my middle name is added, I had to add it to my profile because of another group I used to belong too.

Ann (disciple45) Hi! I just joined this group due to an invite from Ashton. I belong to two other groups and I enjoy them both so I figured the more, the merrier! I am an avid reader, love mysteries especially but I will read just about anything. I am even thinking now of branching out into Science Fiction! My favorite authors are James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and Elizabeth George. I work at home which gives me plenty of time to read. I am looking forward to meeting people and discovering different authors and new books.

My reading time has dropped a bit but I still try to read a few a month. My favorites are definitely mystery and crime. My reading obsession began with True Crime.

message 745: by Jane (new)

Jane (flopsybunny) | 5 comments Hi! My name is Jane and I have just joined this group at Jenni's invitation.

I love crime fiction and some true crime although I have to admit to finding some authors too gory to stomach.

My favourite authors are Reginald Hill, Peter Robinson, Louise Penny, Dorothy L. Sayers and John Dickson Carr.

I will try more or less any author and look forward to getting lots of recommendations and hopefully meeting some new friends.

message 746: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) Welcome Jane. If gore isn't your cup of tea may I suggest cozy mysteries?

message 747: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mnally) | 11 comments Right lately I have been re-reading JA Jance's Joanna Brady series, Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series. I also read Tony Hillerman's Dance Hall of the Dead this month (for a book club). I also read Unbroken by Lauren Hillebrand (for a reading group)

message 749: by Susan Jo (new)

Susan Jo Grassi (susanjo) Hi everyone, I'm Susan Jo, 66 and retired, from SE Kansas. I am a caregiver as my husband has Alzheimer's. I love to read almost everything, except romances, but especially mysteries and history or the combination of the two. I decided this was the year I was going to read nothing but classics and am really enjoying them. My favorite mystery authors are on the "cozy" side, Christie, Sayers, Rinehart but I do like authors like Hillerman, Patterson, Flynn, Connelly, King, Hill and Koontz.

Thank you Jenni for inviting me to this group. I look forward to getting to know you all and getting some new ideas on who to read next.

Jane, we are so excited to welcome you to our group! I think you will fine lots of mystery recommendations here that are just right for you. I, too, do not care for brutal, gory books. There are plenty of psychological thrillers, police procedurals, cozies, etc. to keep us reading for a long time. Welcome again! ; )
