Need to discuss!

I liked this book but am left frustrated by the ending. Did the the author purposely leave so many loose ends so that the book would be good for discussion? Please, if you've red this book respond and let me know what you think :

What's the REAL deal with Wallis and her mother?
What' the true story behind Adrienne's dad?
What really happened at the pool?

Apparently, there's a book that comes before this one. "The Body of Water" is the story of Adrienne's mother. This may answer the questions about Adrienne's father. I have no idea why the author left so many loose ends. I didn't really believe any of the things that happened, and the whole book made no sense to me.
