Angie | 185 comments Hi, I've signed up in my group and added my shelf. It asked me what my goal was so I put 2013 (even though it would be physically impossible) as it didn't seem to have a group total. Is that right?

Angie, your goal would be 251. Since the challenge is divided by teams, GRs will calculate your team's total.

In anticipation of the next question...it is okay if the goal you set is different that the one I put in parenthesis by your name in the thread/assignment listings. I can change that one, if anyone wants me to, especially if it is a huge discrepancy.

I'll be putting screens up in the Frequently Asked Questions thread that will help. (Just give me a bit.

Special Note: You do NOT need to go through the update pathway every time you read a books. Just "tag" it with your specified bookshelf. GoodReads will do the work for you. The update pathway is for updating your goal.

Stefani Robinson (steffiebaby140) | 807 comments Quick question. I have a bunch of leatherbound books that encompass several different books. For example, one has all of the Chronicles of Narnia books in that one edition. I am planning on reviewing each book separately since they are indeed all separate novels, just in the same binding.

Would that be considered "cheating" for this contest? Or since they are all separate individual books, it's not a problem?

Moderators of NBRC | 33496 comments Mod
I would count them as separate, Stefani, as long as each book has a page count >170. How are you going to post them, in order to give your team credit? Post each under a different edition?

That's what I was planning. Use the paperback editions of each separate book to review rather than the one combined edition. I had planned to do it that way all along, but wanted to make sure it would be kosher for this challenge.

Sure, Stefani!

~Melissa~ Hasn't happened yet but if I read an ebook that has no other version is there a way to get prior approval before reading it with the Mods? Just wondering....I have a few on tap for this month such as Just Ask by Mia Downing , Exquisite (Exquisite, #1) by Ella Frank to name a few

Thanks!

message 58: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sure, Melissa. Let me check into them.

Melissa

Just Ask by Mia Downing = 184 print length pages

Exquisite (Exquisite, #1) by Ella Frank = 317 print length pages

So, both are "golden." Yay!

~Melissa~ Yay ~ Thanks!

Books with poems would be acceptable, Brennan.

Liz (shadoedove) | 17 comments I have been sick since thanksgiving so hadn't been online to see this. What a fun challenge!

10 seems to be fair for conversions. Most of my paperback to eBook comparisons tend to come out about 7.5 to 8. But hardbacks range about 14, like Little Women parts 1 and 2. Probably has to do with the typeface settings since different fonts use a different amount of space.

GTW, Liz. Glad you are feeling well enough to pop back on GRs.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hi I have a request for a book approval. I want to read this for another challenge: The MacKenzies Boxed Set by Liliana Hart . There is no page number listed here and the link to follow it from goodreads to B&N and Amazon is defective.

This is the Amazon page which says it's 207 pages.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Let me check it out, Mary.

message 66: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Yes, Mary, it is approximately 207 pages. I updated GRs database.

From techtips.salon.com "This gives a rough rule of thumb of one page in print equating to 2KB."

message 67: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I was just worried about it not counting because the page count didn't show here. Thanks for fixing the listing.

If paperback has >170 pages, and ebook has <170, does reading ebook count or not?

I'm going with Amazon's page count for printed version at 198 pages, ❀Tea❀. I updated GRs database.

But ADE page count is also <170 so it wasn't mistake here.

Smaller font size? Maybe? Still, going with Amazon page count for printed version.

message 74: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 127 comments When I reread a book I don't change the read date because I think the date it was finished the first time is more improtant than the most recent date read. Is there any way to count re-reads for this challenge without changing the read date?

Lilac, not that I know of. You could always mark a different edition for this challenge. I do this for audiobooks that I "re-read." Refer to our GoodReads 101 folder, Reviewing Multiple Editions for help.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Another book with no ebook page numbers: Highlander Untamed. Paperbook is 300+ and on Amazon is 400+.

And for the future, should I ask this kind of questions here or in team discussion?

message 77: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Do we have to get approval if there is a paperback version (or hard copy version)that has enough pages because I haven't been? I've only been asking if the book is only avail in ebook format...

Thanks, ❀Tea❀. I'll change it when I'm back under my regular sign-on. This one doesn't have librarian privileges.

This thread is fine; makes it easier for me to find.

No, ~Melissa~, you don't have to get approval. Some people are just telling me, especially when there is a discrepancy. Then I can update the book and it saves the Team Captains time, since they don't have to investigate the page number.

However, if you want to let me know here, that would be great.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments We'll be seeing each other a lot then. :) I can do it in batches to save time :)

Other books in that series doesn't have ebook page numbers as well.

Yes! I'm going to do that, ❀Tea❀. It is posted here .

Soty Shata (sotyshata) there is Arabic books here ?

message 92: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'm not sure I understand your question, Soty. If you are asking if Arabic books are allowed for this challenge, then, yes, if the page count qualifies.

Rebecca, please note that that would take the book off any previous year's total, if they were in the GRs' Yearly Challenge.
