INTRODUCTIONS *newbies - over here* DON'T BE SHY!

I try to read a lot of different genres, but I'm attracted to mostly action and adventure, dystopian, or plain old satire for humor's sake.

I'm Maddy and I'm from Wales. I turned 19 yesterday and I'm a reader and writer of YA fiction! My favourite series are Harry Potter (introduced me to YA fiction), Divergent, The Hunger Games and Maximum Ride. Favourite character... either Tris from Divergent or Max from Maximum Ride! :)

I would listen to Jenny: please join in on our discussions and recent challenges. :)

Hi, Maddy :) I have cousins that have just moved here to Australia from Wales. I love a welsh accent!
I've been meaning to read Maximum Ride, have you read Vampire Academy at all?

I'm Flora! Happy to be here. I love talking about female characters and how they can be written. My favourite books are actually many - I guess I can name a few, such as the Harry Potter series, recently Percy Jackson, and of course the amazing A Song of Ice and Fire series (which you may know as the origin of the HBO series "Game of Thrones"). :))
My favorite heroine would be a divide by two between Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen from ASOIAF. I'd name Cersei Lannister too, but with all of her actions considered I can't call her a heroine, lol.
Favorite genres are fantasy and sci-fi!!

I am quite new to Goodreads and loved the fact there is a group for those who do not want to be rescued!!
Favourite genres end of the world/ climate change/ sci fi with some more serious stuff thrown in. Favourite authors Gudrun Pausewang whose books always have strong female leads, John Wyndham who's heroines are beautifully old fashioned but always game for adventure.
I write fiction and always try to make my heroines shoot first and ask questions later...... Water's Edge

I read so many books and have so many favorites. It might take me all day to list them all. :) But some recent good ones were The Scorpio Races and The Shiver Trilogy by: Maggie Steifvater, and Delirium/Pandemonium/Requiem by: Lauren Oliver.
My favorite author is Margaret Peterson Haddix (anything and everything by her is awesome), and my second favorite author is John Green.
I look forward to being an active member of this group!

I'm Diana from Tijuana B.C I'm eighteen years old, my favorite books (This month because I have a lot of favorites and I change my mind once a new book is read) is To Kill a Mocking bird, 1984 and Pride & Prejudice.
I don't have one favorite author, I like a lot, I love John Green's writing, Jane Austen, Fyodor Dostoievski, Cassandra Clare (but I haven't read all her novels), etc.
My favorite genres are romance (who doesn't like a fluffy romance that have you wishing you where the protagonist of that story?), terror, horror, comedy, tragedy and drama.
My favorite heroine so far is Elizabeth Benett (Pride & Prejudice).
I love the 80's, I think that the music from that age was awesome.

I look forward to enjoying conversations with other YA enthusiasts! :-)

I love a good heroine character that earns her right to be a badass, and I really hope that the heroine in my story can live up to that right. Can't wait to explore this group!
Thanks,
Isabella

My favourite YA Heroines have to be Hermione (Harry Potter), Tris (Divergent) and Katniss (The Hunger Games)....standard answer really but they're just too good not to love! I'm keen to read some new books and have a new Heroine to ship!
xx

Mmm... favorite books? That's a tough one. Right now I'd have to go with Daughter of Smoke of Bone by Lani Taylor, Firelight( Ugh! can't remember the author's name) and Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols.
I hope to start One by Leigh Ann Kopans this weekend. Gosh, I hope I spelled all the names write.
Nice to meet everyone.
Kimberly

nice to meet everyone :)
Hello, I'm Michelle and my favorite books are Maximum Ride, Divergent, and False Memory. My favorite heroine is probably Tris because she doesn't rely on special powers or other people to get the job done. :)

(i totally agree)

I love writing and reading. It's pretty much all I do aside from work and go to school. Thanks!

I hope to see you around the group more. :)

I loved the genre so much, that I wrote my own. Check out

My name is Manisha and i love to curl up with a with a capable heroine. My favourite book is Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh and as for genres, i don't have one in particular but i love paranormal romance and pretty much books with happy endings.

I'm Rose and my favorite books are Divergent and the Mortal instrument and infernal devices series. I LOVED harry potter! and I love tris as a heroine! my favorite genre is probably paranormal romance, or books with some sort of supernatural thing with humor and romance in the mix. :)

Me too! :D I'm dying to see her new series, the Dark Artifices!

My names Devon. I read A LOT. My fave books include the hunger games, matched, mortal instruments, divergent, maximum ride, the gallagher girls, and lots more! My fave heroines include Cammie from the gallagher girls, Katniss (of course), Clary from the mortal instruments, Tris from divergent, and Cassia from matched. Im really looking forward to being involved in this bookclub, I've heard a lot about you guys!!

Some of my favourite authors are William Gibson,Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and Philip K Dick. Old school, I know.
I’m also a Goodreads author. My book is YA sci-fi so I’ve been reading too much Scientific American and not enough new books lately. Hoping to change that with Allegiant, Horde, and Champion.

Just wanted to say I'm Michelle I'm from Australia and I am super excited to be part of this group and discuss kickass female lead characters :) I think part of what makes a great female lead is not just her ability to kick but (if the book calls for it) but to also have the supporting personality so asto be able to connect and love the character. Because females are actually multi-faceted.
Does anyone get what I'm saying?

Yeah I totally get it. You can't truly like a character if you can't relate to some part of them. It's why we all love female heroines so much. We secretly want to be them!

YA heroines are very important to me! I love to write and to read them. I actually have quite a few unpopular opinions on certain popular heroines which I will keep to myself ;) BUT I will always appreciate a strong female character that grows and remains true to being a positive female inspiration!
My absolute no.1 inspiration in this regard is Alanna from the Song of the Lioness Quartet. She was my first introduction to YA back in the 90s and I kinda owe her everything.
So yeah, hi :)
