message 54: by Emily (new)

Emily (emily21) | 217 comments Hello! My name is Emily. I love most young adult novels where there is a girl who kicks butt and a strong male lead who is amazed by her skills. Currently I love the Vampire Academy Series, Mortal Instruments, and Infernal Devices along with the Mistborn trilogy (even though I don't think that particular series is considered YA, it does feature a very strong female lead, Vin). My favorite heroine is Vin from Mistborn and Rose from Vampire Academy.

Sarah (Oceanwhisper) | 39 comments Hey everyone, I'm Sarah and my favourite books are The Seven Realms Trilogy by Cinda Williams Chima, The Sight and Fire-bringer by David Clement Davies (I think) and The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa. I have so many more though! My favourite heroine...hard decision but I have to say I'm pretty in love with Sunny Andrews from Flame-girl by Laura-louise Slattery as well as Princess Raisa ana'Marianna from The Seven Realms Trilogy Cinda Williams Chima, who is a real damsel who saves herself from distress! I basically love every author who writes good books, and my favourite genres are fantasy, some romance books, a little dystopia and realistic fiction (and maybe a little bit of paranormal now and then).

message 65: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea Larson | 3 comments hey guys =) I’m Chelsea. It’s really hard to say what my favorite book is because there are so many! And I usually read them by the series anyway so I guess it would be 6 one way and half a dozen the other! I would have to say my all-time favorite heroine is Annabeth Chase from many of Rick Riordan but she is probably most known in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. My favorite authors are Rick Riordan, John Flanagan, or Terry Goodkind. I have read many genres and loved books out of all of them so it is really hard to say.. But I guess I read mostly fiction..

message 66: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea Larson | 3 comments Totally love both those series! I'm trying to get into the Egyptian side that he is writing in this other series but its a little harder lol

message 67: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Hey Chelsea, (boy that sounded strange)
we are name buddy's! I have read the Kane Chronicles and I thought that they have the same sort of feeling as his Greek/Roman books. I like more magic-ky, spells, charms stuff so I thoroughly enjoyed his Egyptian books too.
Anyways welcome to !YA Heroines!

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone!

I'm Charity, and I think there need to be more kick-butt heroines in YA fiction. Like a lot of people have already mentioned, I enjoyed the Hunger Games trilogy, and I'm just starting Divergent. Recently I have also gotten hooked on modern-day rewrites of Jane Austen novels. This weekend I read one called "Persuade Me" (obviously based on Persuasion) and "Epic Fail" (based on Pride & Prejudice).

My favorite genres are science fiction, paranormal and fantasy.

I just posted my A-Z. I'm excited to get to know everyone!

message 69: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Hello, hello!
I agree with you on the fact that YA seriously needs more kick-butt heroines! We girls are far more capible than YA portrays us as.
I wish you a great time in !YA Heroines!

Venise Webb (vwebb) | 19 comments Hi, everyone! I'm Venise, and just let me tell you, I am so glad that this group exist. I love YA books (even if I'm many years past my teen years) but one of my pet peeves are weak female characters. I am starting to see a trend of more stronger female characters inside and out. It is one of the things that I careful of in my own heroines.

I look forward to discussing these females with all of you.

message 89: by Sally (new)

Sally | 9 comments Hi my name is Sally
Too many books to name a favorite, but some of my fave heroines are Leslie Burke, Dicey Tillerman, Hermione Granger, and Katniss Everdeen.
I read everything, but I do have a special place for Margaret Atwood. And my newest discovery is Cassandra Clare - I raced through the Mortal Instruments series in about a week and a half.
Currently I'm taking a break from fantasy and reading Silver Linings Playbook.

message 90: by Line (new)

Line (misslecher) | 12 comments Hi people

My name's Line, and I'm from Denmark...

I love YA litt., as it is an easy read, and they generally have good storylines and cool characters...

I don't really have one YA book, that I absolutely love, but that's propably because I set the bar a little to high...
Lately I've been reading the 2 first 'Divergent' books, which I found pretty good, and right now I'm reading the 'A game of thrones' series, though I'm still only on the first book...

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi I'm Athena

message 94: by B. (new)

B. Tealya (tealya) | 65 comments Hello all. I'm Brittany, though I go by Brit or Tealya. I am a reader of YA fiction and working on writing/self publishing one. My favorite YA books are probably Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wayne Jones and the Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce. Generally, I prefer reads that are lighter in nature and funny. Angst books tend to depress me.

I'm always interested in recommendations of books with good female characters. I actually started writing because when I was much younger, I didn't like most of the female characters I saw on tv or in book. They were always in need of saving and none of them could take down the villains themselves even when they were the main character. The first break I got from that was when I was given a copy of Alanna (T. Pierce) when I was in jr. high and I've enjoyed YA ever since.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to meet you and get some good recommendations to add to my list.

message 95: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Hey Brittany :) Enjoy the group.

message 96: by Donald (new)

Donald Hello, I'm Donald and I've been a fan of young adult since I was thirteen, especially those with strong female leads and very especially those with strong female leads in a fantasy setting (series titles over single books). I absolutely love Tamora Pierce (Author) and I've read all of her books- my favourites being the original "Song of the Lioness" quartet and the "Circle of Magic" series. I also really like Kristin Cashore and her "Graceling Realm" series, Alison Croggon and her "Books of Pellinor" series, Garth Nix and his "Abhorsen" series, and Maria V. Snyder and her "Study" series and "Glass" series. I'm not a big fan of dystopian titles, although they seem very popular at the moment within YA.

I hope to get along well with everyone and have some nice discussions.

message 97: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Hello and welcome fellow YA lover. :D

message 98: by Mallory (new)

Mallory | 3 comments Hey,I'm Mallory and my favorite book is Little Women. My favorite heroine as of lately is Katniss, I had a very strong Hunger Games addiction with some of my best friends. Some of my favorite authors are Jodi Picoult and Margaret Atwood (I actually just finished Alias Grace for english class).
I'll be going to college next year to major in Gender, Women, and Sexuality stories (which explains why I'm here) and I LOVE discussing books (I already read Cinder, so I might jump into that discussion).
I generally am not a big reader, but I will "binge read" if the book is as good as the ones I've mentioned previously. Just an fyi, I don't like the Twilight series.

message 99: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Binge read!!!! In the holidays I swear I will go nuts and read everybook on my very long TBR list. If only that were possible! Now I'm just contridicting myself.
