Heili | 3 comments Hello everyone!!

I'm Heili and my favourite books are The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen, pretty much anything by Cassandra Clare, and Juliet by Anne Fortier. My favourite heroine would currently have to be June Iparis from the the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu. She is soooo badass!! My favourite genre... primarily romance but I love Sci-Fi, fantasy, and historical fiction (with romance in it ;)

message 454: by Amber (new)

Amber | 2 comments Hey Everyone!

I'm Amber, I absolutely love YA books. I feel like YA Authors really push the envelopes with their stories! My favorite books are The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins , Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore , and Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . My favorite heroine is Katniss. And my favorite genre is probably science fiction, romance and adventure and of course dystopian :).

message 455: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Hi!
I'm Rachel and am incurably hooked on YA fantasy/science fiction books. I am currently finishing the Graceling series with Bitterblue, and love all three strong heroines. I am also reading the Woodcutter Sisters series by Alethea Kontis--these are retellings of fairy tales with very strong women as the leads. Loved Chime by Franny Billinglsley and Cate Tiernan's Immortal Beloved trilogy! If anyone else loves fairy tale retellings, try Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright. I havea shelf full of more books I can't wait to read: Of Poseidon series, Grave Mercy series, Eon/Eona, and Shadow and Bone. Basically, I love young women/women who can kick butt!

message 456: by Janie (new)

Janie Chodosh | 9 comments Hi all,
My name is Janie and I am currently reading Laurie Halse Anderson's "The Impossible Knife of Memory." I love her female characters in all her books, though I especially love this book. I am also an author, and my first book (coming out in April) has a strong young woman and well, I love her! If you are interested, you can check out "Death Spiral, A Faith Flores Science Mystery." I guess if I had a favorite genre it would be realistic fiction. I am excited to be part of this group?

Jay (NinjaNerd) | 4 comments um, howdy.
My name is Jay, and I'm kinda new to Ya Heroines. I'm currently writing a book, but have not uploaded it onto Goodreads. Idk if I should... anyway, I've been a hardcore fangirl since I was eight, love many, many, books and movies and TV shows. I'm starting my own YouTube channel soon, called "Ninjalyn". When it's up, I will let you know. I love dogs but wildlife scares me very easily. I aim to be a fictional writer when I grow up and maybe a part time singer and pianist.
I'm a hopeless loser but idec.
Thanks for reading.
~Jay.

Efrat Israeli (efratisraeli) | 1 comments Here is a one of a kind heroine for you :)))
I would like to share with you my new novel HER PROMISED ROAD, inspired by the chronicles of Golda Meir’s early life and her mission to the United States in the 1930's. It depicts the challenges, deliberations and passionate soul searching of a young woman in her early thirties - her natural desire to be loved, an obligation to family, and the urgency of the mission ahead; while questioning if her promised road is worthy of the heavy cost to her personal life… and heart. More about the book here

Rosaline (Rosaline's Rolls & Scrolls) (rosalinesrollsandscrolls) | 3 comments Hi guys! I'm Rosaline but everyone calls me Rose. I love books with strong, funny and independent heroines. (Duh!). :D I’ve had some bad luck with heroines lately. So much stupidity and boringness (I'm not sure if that's a word!) going on! So I’m glad I’ve found this group. :)
I mostly read YA. I like fantasy, science fiction, dystopia, mystery, adventure, and contemporary. There’s more, I’m sure!!!!
Some of my favorite books are Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee , Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , The Hallowed Ones (The Hallowed Ones, #1) by Laura Bickle , Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead and all the Harry Potter books. <3
My absolute favorite heroines are Rose from Vampire Academy and Penryn from Angelfall. Those girls can kick butt!
And umm… yeah! :):)

message 465: by Rachel (new)

Rachel E. Carter (rachelcarterauthor) Hi, My name is Rachel and I adore books with strong female leads -especially if they are sarcastic (a la Meg Cabot). The one thing I do prefer is for my protagonists to struggle -I am not a huge fan of girls that are already skilled warriors/fighters/assassins/etc. because I want to feel that I can relate to them (Tamora Pierce does an excellent job of this with Kel, Daine, & Alanna in some of my favorite series). That said, I also have a weakness for a good love-hate relationship or hot evil bad guy that the protagonist is constantly fighting her attraction to (Shatter Me series, or even Mortal Instruments) but I can like the good guys as well (Hunger Games, I adored Peeta!). I'm a published author and I pretty much write characters I love to read about so my first series: The Black Mage First Year (The Black Mage, #1) by Rachel E. Carter is centered around a kick butt girl who is competing in fighting magic against 100 others including a hot but arrogant prince she can't stand (and is secretly attracted to), but just because I write doesn't mean I am not looking for recommendations so yea, that's me.

message 481: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2 comments Hi. I'm Mariana and I love reading anything and everything. I have a special place in my in my heart for YA especially those with strong female protagonists. I don't have a favorite book because it's to hard to chose just one, but i do have a huge crush on meg cabot's writing style. I also have a bad habit of falling in love with fictional characters. I've been a goodreads member for a long time, but I never had the courage to post anything. This is my first ever post and hopefully not the last one.
Thx for reading

message 486: by Kristi (new)

Kristi Cramer (kristicramer) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Kristi, and I love strong heroines. My all-time favorite YA books are the Harper Hall Trilogy, by Anne McCaffrey. I thought Menolly made a great heroine. I love YA Fantasy - it is one of the genres I cut my reading teeth on, and inspired me to become a writer.

Yes, I am well aged-out of the YA category...by many decades...but I still love to read and have fond memories of the books I read as a child.

My favorite genres are YA and fantasy

message 488: by Ben (new)

Ben Langdon Hi YA Heroines. I'm going to jump into the A-Z questionnaire and add anything at the end. Here goes...

A - Age: 41
B - Book you are reading: Just finished reading Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor and am now reading a ARC called The Fray Theory Resonance (The Fray Theory, #1) by Nelou Keramati . I've been reading quickly lately, so I'll need some new ones soon.
C - Chore you hate: Cleaning the bathroom... and oven. Hate that.
D - Dessert you love: Chocolate mousse and strawberries
E - Essential start your day item: Clothes
F - Favorite author/ book: Hmm... To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Past the Shallows by Favel Parrett and Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (Necromancer, #1) by Lish McBride ... and The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness !
G - Good Boys or bad boys: Hmm... I like the underdog.
H - Hair colour: Brown (greying!)
I - Inside or outside: Inside (it's really cold here right now!)
J - Job or Occupation: High school teacher
K - Kittens or puppies: Um... I've got three kids so that's enough.
L - Last thing you lost: Keys, maybe.
M - Most overused word/phrase in your vocabulary: Um... (seriously, it's um)
N - Nicknames: Langdo
O - Object on the right of you: Comic book (Spiderwoman)
P - Pets: Guinea pigs (cavies), but they're my daughter's. I just feed them, clean up after them and make sure they're alive.
Q - Quotes you like: I've been playing around with lots of superhero quotes lately on Twitter using the #capedquotation hashtag. Last one was: "Never doubt a racoon." - Rocket Racoon
R - Right or left handed: Right.
S - Siblings: One and half of each. (Brother, Sister, Half-Brother, Half-Sister)
T - Time you woke up today: 9am (I'm on school holidays)
U - Unique thing about you: I run a shop called The Imagination and Learning Centre and I write superhero novels in my so-called spare time.
V - Vegetable you love: I'm vegetarian, so most of them. Baby peas that pop in your mouth are great.
W - Worst habit: Procrastination (of course... I'm a writer!)
X - X-rays you've had: Jaw for wisdom teeth and that's it.
Y - Yummy food you make: PIzzas
Z - Zodiac Sign: Cancer (or Tiger if it's Chinese Zodiac)

I guess, adding to that is that I'm an author and have written two novels - The Miranda Contract by Ben Langdon and The Adventures of Charlie Conti Small Sacrifices by Ben Langdon . The Charlie Conti book was co-written with my 13 year old daughter after she told me she preferred watching TV to reading a book. I was horrified! So we wrote a book she wanted to read.

I'm a keen reader too, so love to hear your recommendations.

Cheers,
Ben

message 489: by Sabha (new)

Sabha | 1 comments I'm Sabha and I love to read! Some of my favorite books are the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout, the Mara Dyer trilogy, and every book by Sarah Dessen!

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) Hi I'm Anna, I love to read and write (I have some of my writing on goodreads) I do not have a favorite book since other books would get jealous, but I have read Rules, Out of My Mind, A Little Princess, and See you at Harry's, at least 10 times each. I never buy a book before I've read it, but I have a collection of warrior cat books. I have a lot of odd allergies, including cats, dogs, trees, and grasses which is extremely ironic because I love animals and nature. I am fluent in Spanish as well as English, and am learning French very slowly, as well as actively learning sign language. My favorite genere is fantasy because it's not the real world, though I like to read books that are realistic too. I play the clarinet (but not at school since I can't really march with my allergies). My biggest inspiration for writing poetry is my sister, and the bullying I went through and still am going through. When I go to college I want to double major in biology/zoology and Spanish. My dream job would be working in South America with the effort to help the environment (if that's even really a job). I enjoy spending my time (when I'm not reading, writing, or playing my clarinet) finger knitting, singing slightly off key (my sister says I'm super off key) trying to learn to play the piano, running, sleeping and geeking out about Star Wars. I'm a Girl Scout, and active member of my church youth group. If I'm not doing anything above, I'll be silently planning my take over of the world.
