Noone Obviously no one really knows what three books Mr. Wells was thinking of when he wrote the story. Many have put forth numerous suggestions but no one really knows. What I find interesting is that here over 500 people have their opinions but not one ever stopped to consider the more necessary initial question which must first be answered in order to try to choose the 3 books mentioned. DID HE TAKE THOSE THREE BOOKS TO GIVE THEM TO THE ELOI IN THE FUTURE -OR - DID HE TAKE THE THREE BOOKS TO REMOVE THEM FROM HIS LIBRARY AND HIS FRIENDS IN THE LATE 1800S? OR DID HE TAKE THEM SOLELY FOR HIMSELF?

Jeff Jump to the middle of the 21st century circa 2150 or maybe even 2200 when probably there still are some books (take a gamble Mr. Man from 1899) and stay there for a while and learn how to upgrade your time machine with maybe some kind of cloaking device and put it on some kind of new fangled horseless carriage so it can move around and be properly hidden in case a tree ends up growing through the spot you are parked and destroying the craft. You might want to also grab some upgrades to reading devices to be able to store thousands of books electronically so you don't have to be weighed down by physical books. Also I suspect you probaby will want to make sure you time machine has a sealed pressurized cabin with supplemental oxygen like the space module because the Earth is probably going to speed away from you pretty fast and you will find yourself in the vacuum of space really quickly. Because of the Earth's rotation you probably also don't want to start any temporal incursion during the day time so the Earth doesn't pull straight through you killing you instantly. You might want to study up on some basic orbital mechanics or this time jump will probably be the last thing you ever do.

Given what you say about avoiding starting out during daylight maybe you should too?

Vickie Always a brain with a practical side! I am not, fortunately, but even I wondered about what happens when the property is sold and razed. Of course the Time Traveler is NOT really “there” at any one time so as he travels there must be a “time bubble” around him that protects him from any incursions into his space.

I always wanted the little model with the bent cigar that was sent off in time in the original movie!! I always thought if I ever became a multimillionaire I would try to find it and buy it, or I would commission someone to make me an exact replica! Ain’t gonna happen now!

Interesting thought. The 2002 remake plays with the idea of a time bubble. Defo worth a watch.

I like your choices!! Any favorite quotes from Plato’s republic?
“A city” is referred often, in your opinion what is a city?
