Erin, I've thought the same thing since I read on BART, both to and from work. I'm not too embarrassed about it, but I definitely won't flash the cover and probably won't read while standing since that would cause too much unnecessary exposure. 'Member at Everett how the textbooks would have book covers? Maybe we could improvise if it becomes a problem.
Maybe I could put my graphic design skills to use and make some book covers to go over the Christopher Pike books. Maybe I should make the covers say that youre reading some fancy shit like Shakespeare or sumthang else that sounds really impressive!
Samantha bought 20 Christopher Pike novels? Sambo, I've always loved you, but now I'm thinking marriage....I would have no shame reading them on the bus. I may even read out loud so I can expose more people to the Glory that is Christopher Pike.
You know what's funny. When I was a teen reading these books, I would have adults borrow them. They are a great, quick read - instant brain candy. I don't see what's so horrible about that. I will admit that they were more satisfying when I was a teenager. Though I still have a few favorites I would reread if I wanted to good cry!
I knew you people existed somewhere. I knew it.I still own all of my Chistopher Pike's from when they were bought. Who else thinks the "new" covers are crap?
I agree, the new covers ARE crap! I refuse to read them.
Yeah, the new covers aren't as good. But then again, old Christopher Pike was better than the new CP. Witch and See You Later...so much better than the Alosha series.
Yeah totally! what is the deal with the new editions for all the teenie bopper books I used to love? Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High also have sucky new covers!!!
Tara, I agree. I don't like the new covers either.. But I still read CP books in the bus and train and I'm 28 :) Am still collecting his books I've missed. I had a childhood dream of owning ALL his books and still on the way to fulfilling it now lol. It's very hard to get his books at stores, so I'll wait for one day to order all the missing ones from Amazon heh.
I've found out that going back and reading them now (I'm in my 30s) it's like reading a whole new book again. Different perspective and things you thought you remembered from when you were 12 just don't hold up.Who cares if the pages are all yellowed? ;)
No! I love Christopher Pike's books and I'm not ashamed! People can look at me funny all they want, I'll read them anywhere :)

My friends do look at me funny when I read them, but I don't mind. As for people on the bus, I don't really care. Ahaha. (:

I'm going to be 30 in September. I still re-read his books. I love them. They may look like kids books by the covers, but they certainly are not kids books. I have read them on the bus. I bring them into work to read on my breaks. I would never be embarrassed.
Hi. Well I'm 37 and I read Christopher Pike books every day on the bus, as well as at lunchtimes at work, as I find them hard to put down once I've started reading one! I think his books are excellent and I'm always happy to recommend them to anyone who sees me reading them. A good read is a good read. Whatever the target age group.
Oh. My. Gosh. NO ONE THAT I TALK TO EVER KNOWS WHO CHRISTOPHER PIKE IS BECAUSE THEY'RE ONLY INTO VAMPIRE ROMANCE NOVELS! I mean REALLY people... read some CP! The man is a genius! I started being obsessed with these books in middle school and I still love them dearly and wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen reading them anywhere! (Well, I take that back. If they had the new covers then I might. I like the old beat-up paperback copies that smell like old paper and just add a certain depth to whatever Pike tells me.) My favorite was always "The Last Vampire" though (being a fan of vampires way before the stupid new vamp-craze came around, now making me some-what embarrassed to love vamp books)and I just recently purchased the rest of the series, although I haven't had time to read them yet! (GAH!)
and I'm 20 for ya'll :P but one of my bffs is 30 so I feel for ya :)
Since Im a serious snoop when Im on the bus....(i have to check out what everyone is reading and try to read over the shoulder of whomever has the most interesting book when I can)....I find the idea of seeing any of you reading Christopher Pike on the MUNI extremely funny....not that Im trying to be judgemental, its more like I would just find it so random, so surprising, so "what the hell?"
