A Lear of the Steppes - Ivan Turgenev

At first I found it hard to get into this story. I think it lacked some of the emotional depth experienced in the previous stories we have read so far but as I progressed it did start to pick up more.
I do think it is an interesting retelling of the story of King Lear and it highlights the very relatable question of which I think does span throughout time, the issue of how our elders are treated and their place within society, as well as the obligation and duties children have to aging parents.
It is also is a psychological look upon the revealing of a person's true nature in seeing how when Harlov's daughters and son-in-law are no longer dependent upon him as well have no cause to fear him their true colors are shown and it is seen what kind of people they are at the base of their nature.
