"Sort By" title

Can somebody provide me with a link to any discussions that explain sort by titles?

I've tried a search but obviously "sort" and "by" are such common words that I'm unable to find anything germane amid the number of false positive returns that such a search yields.

What I'm looking to understand is how books such as Mr. Roberts should be treated as to a sort by title. Would the sort by title be "mr. roberts" or "mister roberts?"

As a rule of thumb, I go by how the title is written on the cover or title page of the book...

The sort by title field is to prevent sorts by "the", "a/an", etc. That's about it.
