Me too! Gave up I think during the fourth story. This week I bought a spanish (my native language) translation, so I'll give it another chance soon.

I think it's less about the language than about the style. Cloud Atlas is a very dense and difficult read.

I found part of this book hard to get into, like the very first story, which felt like an historical novel.
And the 6th story, oh my ! I didn't get 6 words out of 8 in the audiobook, whereas the print version was much easier to decrypt.
Anyone else had similar difficulties ?
