Wash walked into his classroom, there were a few students seated already. He turned to the board and wrote Write down your favorite writer, list why this is your favorite, what genre(s) he or she writes, are they dead or still living? he turned around and say behind his desk. He started looking over some tests from the previous week and began grading them.
BB pushed open the English classroom door and poked her head inside, there were very few students seated and the teacher was still writing on the board. She breathed a sigh and pulled her hood down, moving down the aisle and taking a seat at the back where she wouldn't be noticeable to the rest of the class. Her hair fell over her bruised face as she pulled her notebook from the bag and placed it on the desk, scrawling down the task that had been written on the board.
Wash noticed a girl slip in but said nothing, he was glad if his students showed up so he hardly ever handed out late passes. The door was now open so he saw when a young girl stopped at the door and lingered there talking to an older boy. He tapped his pencil a bit impatiently as he waited for her to enter the class.
BB rested her chin in her hand and tucked her hair behind her ear, she had no idea how to answer this. She couldn't even remember the last book she had read. With a frown she doodled idly in the margin trying to recall books she had read in her life and whether she could even remember the names of the author.
Wash cleared his throat loudly and decided to make his rounds in the classroom. He said things like 'good choice' or 'never heard of that one' to the students as he passed them. Then he came to a girl that he hadn't seen all year. He crouched down and said in a low voice so the other students couldn't hear, "Nice to have you with us.... BB right? So who are you thinking of writing down?"
BB turned to look at the teacher and stared flatly at him as he made a comment about her attendance. She rolled her eyes and stared at the blank page for a moment longer, "I was thinking the author of Life of Pi. I saw it at the cinema and then my....someone told me to read it. So Yann Martel?" She replied. "It's different I guess, explores our perception of realism, the impact of religion on the mind and the ideal world and the relationships we have and how they are percieved. Fantasy, adventure and Yann Martel I'm assuming is still alive." BB said.
Wash watched her talk, he was honestly surprised she answered him. "Good, sounds like you have a plan so write it all down, if you see me after class ill give you extra credit assignments so you can pass my class." He stood an walked away to consult other students.
Sage wandered in, annoyed. Someone had caught her about to graffiti the main office, she'd barely slipped away from the hall patrol when she bumped into some guy named Jack McCloud. He'd 'encouraged' her to go to class. She slumped down into a seat kind of near the back and glanced at the board. Hmm easy assignment, should've attended this class sooner, she thought to herself as she dragged a black notebook out of her messenger bag. She scribbled down, James Patterson, he's written mystery, and YA books, he's living moron. If you haven't heard of him you should just quit your job now. -S she pushed the paper to the corner of her desk and glanced around the classroom with a sigh.
"Okay I will," Claudia's heart beat a bit faster, she shut down physically though. She walked into the classroom, she looked like a girl engulfed by her hoodie.
BB watched the teacher walk away and noted down the few words she'd said to him. Extra credit? Was he barking mad? BB certainly didnt have time for that, she had other things to deal with like kicking Cole's ass into next weekend. She absently rubbed her cheek and leant back in the chair crossing her legs and pulling out her phone where it couldn't be seen by the teacher.
Elena tugged on her plaid skirt, it felt short, and she didn't want to feel uncomfortable on her first day of school. Maybe she'd grown since last year ? She would have to talk to her mom to see if she thought that maybe they would need to buy a new set of skirts. She stopped in front of Mr. Wash's English class, this was a new year, a fresh start, she had already met a boy, Chuck. It was already so different from the year before. Elena reached forward and turned the knob, she swung the door open and walked in. Her eyes scanned the mostly empty classroom, she decided to sit in the middle, and went to the most inviting looking desk and sat down, setting her bag beside her desk. She pulled out her English text book as well as a book that she was reading just for fun, Enders Game.
Jade Mang let out a loud, puffy sigh as she pushed by people in the hallway. They were all so happy and bubbly, it made her feel like throwing up, honestly. She watched two girls squeal and had to start walking faster. He was happy about school, yes, but she wasn't going to act like some 12 year old about it. Jade had a sly smirk on her face as she strutted to her first period class. She was wearing her uniform, with fishnets and stilettos, as well as a ton of makeup and her hair done expertly. She'd spent all meowing on it, and the bangles on her wrists jangled as she pulled open the door to the English room. Jade peeked around the room and saw just the teacher and one other student. She'd had mister wash last year, so she grinned at him "Hey Mr. Wash!! I bet you missed me," she teased, and went to sit down next to the one girl that was in there. She was blonde, and unusually pretty, and she looked somewhat timid, so Jade already liked her. "Hi sweetie, I'm Jade, nice to meet you." She said, sticking out her hand to shake so confidently.
Wash had gotten to school two hours early, since he didn't really have a life outside of school he had time to waste and so had arrived early to get his lesson plans done and everything printed out that he would need for the first day. Syllabuses were in order, the reading materiel for the year, ect. He was pretty stoked for the new year and new students, and of course the returning students. He glanced up as his name was spoken, a smile found its way to his face, "Miss Jade how are you? Summer good? I think I have a reading list this year that you will appreciate."
Elena was in the middle of reading a long paragraph when a girl sat next to her and was talking to the teacher. Elena looked up and watched as student and teacher conversed. They had apparently been in a class together the year before, interesting. Elena turned and tried not to look intimidated as she greeted her peer, "Hi. I'm Elena, pleasure to meet you as well Jade." Elena tucked some of her hair behind her ear and then closed the book so that she could give her classmate her full attention. Maybe she would make a friend? Besides the new boy, that is. Chuck, she would be seeing Chuck at lunch, cute boy, he seemed intelligent, she hoped so at least.

Jade let out a light laugh at Mr. Wash "Oh I bet you do. The only one I liked last year was Gatsby. But the others, you know how I loved to read those spark notes." She said in a snarky tone. Jade couldn't help it, that's just how she was. And mister wash knew that, or he wouldn't be dealing with her. He never rolled his eyes at her or acted like she was a problem child, it was nice. Jade turned to her new classmate and cocked her head slightly. She had a fairly thick accent "Elena, that's a pretty name. Are you from... Italy?? I'm part Italian, part Chinese obviously," she said, pointing to her face "But my mom is so Italian her blood is half marinara." She said with an easy grin on her face as she looked at the girl. Yep, definitely timid. A shy one. Jade always liked the shy ones, because she could help them come out of their shells some, help them transform and fufil their potentials. Basically she took them to parties, took shots with them and hung out with them at the mall. But hey, you'd be surprised what that can do for a girl.
Elena watched as Mr. Wash just grinned Jades way and looked all mysterious. Elena rose a brow, the man was being strange, and it made Elena think that she was going to like that class very much. She returned her attention to the girl beside her, Jade. Jade was talking about herself, then her family, she seemed nice, but she looked a little edgy. Not that that was a bad thing... Jade seemed like a girl not likely to talk to someone like Elena, but hey she wasn't going to argue. "Yes, Italian. Your mother is from Italy?" She smiled politely, maybe the morning would end up amazing. "Have you lived here long?" Elena asked Jade curiously. She seemed like she might be one of the locals, which technically Elena was one of those now too, but she was a new local so it didnt' seem to count. She'd only lived in Russia a year, not her whole life.
Jade nodded "Yep, mom was born and raised in Italy until she was a little older, then she lived in the United States." She said, pulling some things out of her bag. Really just a pen that wrote in hot pink ink, and a black notebook with purple designs on it. "I was born in Hong Kong, where my dads family lives, but basically I lived here growing up, since my parents work here and stuff." She said with a shrug. Since Elena asked her if she'd lived there long, she guessed that the other girl hadn't "What about you? You a newb this year??" She asked her with a quirked brow, settling back into her chair as other students started to file into the room. She was very glad that she chose to sit with Elena, everyone else that walked in seemed very annoying to her. Preppy girls, a stray cheerleader, she saw another dancer in the corner, but he was so introverted that even Jade had never spoken to him.
It sounded like Jade had had a very cultural life, Hong Kong, Russia. It was something Elena could relate to with all of the traveling her and her own mother had done over the years. Of course Elena was thankful to settle down, and to have all of that over with for now. The only part she missed from her old life was her dad, and well he was making no attempt to be in her life, so she tried not to ponder on him often. She shook her blonde head when Jade asked if she was a newbie. "No, I was here last year as well, I just didn't really go noticed, tried to keep to under the radar." Elena looked a bit nervous, "I wasn't used to school, or peers, or staying in one place for so long so I kind of hung back. This year I'm hoping to be a little more involved," Elena's voice had dropped an octave as students started filing in, she was naturally a little shy, but she didn't even realize that she was being ultra shy with new people entering the room.
Jade quirked a brow and looked at Elena for a moment. So she wanted to break out of her shell? That was interesting, because Jade as looking for someone's shell to break. "Well if you really want to break out of your shell, I'm kind of the perfect person to make as your new best friend." She commented. She could see Elena in some darker clothes, with some darker makeup. Out at parties and sneaking around school finding new gossips to publish on their twitters and things "I'm going to this party tomorrow night. I mean if you're up for it..." She said, leaving it open ended for Elena. She didn't need anyone around that didn't want to be with her, but all of her good friends graduated last year, and she needed some new ones to hang out with her.
Elena wrote her name in the top corner of her notebook in loopy letters, then the date. She looked to Jade when she started speaking again, surprised by the offer that Jade was making. She could help Elena be more out there? Hmmm. An offer to consider for sure, and it was what she was looking for. "Party?" She asked, on a school night? Oh her mom would not be all for that, she was sure of it. Maybe she could say she was studying with a friend though? Or not say anything, just tell her that she decided on staying at the dorm for the night? "Sure why not," Elena smiled, maybe the school year would be fantastic, only time would tell. "I'm not sure if I have party clothes in my dorm... I'll have to take a look," She thought of all the prim skirts and shirts that probably were hanging in her dorm closet, ugh. She might just have to go shopping, or borrow something from someone... All thoughts of the school day were out of Elena's head, she was thinking of her social status and new self instead.
Jade turned to her paper when Elena started to think over her offer. The girls long black shut fell down around her face for a moment as she wrote out her name at the top of the syllabus is huge letters that would ever be overlooked. But then her head was up once more, surveying the room. There were some people looking at her, because they knew who she was. She waved at some, and glared at others, making mental notes of how they treated each other. Two cheerleaders whispering? She would have to find out about what. A piece of cake for Jade. She was broken out of her trance when Elena piped up that she would come. A smirk twisted into jades lips "Great, I know you'll just love it." She said in a happy tone "I would say you could borrow some of mine but you're all talk and skinny and I'm a short little curvy thing, so I don't think that would work." She said with a light laugh, tapping her pen against the desk rhythmically.
Wash glanced around at his class, they were all pretty much seated, at least everyone that was actually going to show for class it seemed, so he decided to get started. He stood up and grabbed a stack of papers from his desk, "This will be your syllabus for the year. It has what you will be required to read, essay's, ect. The dates things are due, and yes you are expected to start reading the first book right away, I'll have a paper due on it in three weeks time. The title is Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. I don't care if you have already read it, read it again. I don't care if it interests you, read it anyway, I don't care if you're part of sports, student council, 4H, or any other club here, this will be read and turned in on time or you will have a bad grade." Wash was handing out the syllabuses as he spoke, and he gave a wink to Jade, she knew the drill. Wash was hardcore when it came to reading the material and writing your essays, but he was also one hell of a cool teacher. If you truly had a crisis he would work with you, and he liked to let the students watch movies every Friday, or sometimes just let them have the period off.
Elena smiled, "Yeah. I think one of my roommates might have something? Or I could call my mom..." She shushed as the teacher began speaking and explaining the syllabus and his expectations for the year. The book that he mentioned sounded like it was going to be interesting for sure and she couldn't wait to get started. She looked down at the paper that he handed her, it was pretty detailed and well laid out. Awesome, it should be a pretty easy class to keep up with, first period seemed like it was going to be a breeze for Elena. She wrote her name on the syllabus, then tucked it into a folder in her bag and leaned towards Jade. "Will there be boys at this party?" She asked oh so innocently.

Jade listened to Mr. Wash talk all hard ass about his class. Really though he wasn't that bad, he just didn't care about a late paper because of some groundbreaking football game. She quite liked him, and planned on asking him for a letter of recommendation soon. She had always done well in his class. She thought the book sounded interesting, betting than freaking Huck Finn. She was reading over the syllabus, just to give herself something to do, when Elena leaned over and whispered an extremely innocent question into her ear. Jade started to smiled widely, her head tilting some "Oh, honey. You'll be swimming in boys." She told her with an excited glint in her eyes. This little thing really had no clue, well Jade would teach her how to navigate and be strong. You couldn't fall for every guy that called you beautiful at a party, or you'd be gaining weight via Ben and Jerrys every Sunday night. "Don't worry, I'll help you." She promised with a wink.
Elena blinked, Jade said she would be swimming in boys, hopefully that wasn't meant to be literal. Otherwise Elena may just faint before she even got to introduce herself to said boys. A small bit of fear entered her eyes just before Mr. Wash announced that he was in fact the coolest teacher on campus, and he would prove it by giving them the rest of the class off. Elena gathered her things and shoved them into her bag in a quick, and accurate manner before shouldering the bag and standing up. "So, I guess we're free to do whatever for an hour," She said to Jade in a casual voice, wondering if the girl would want to hang out with her in-between classes.
Jade had to hide her coy smile behind her hand when Elena looked so terrified of boys. She thought it was genuinely funny, how old was this girl, anyway?? She didn't seem very experienced. But Jade could help, of course. She looked up at Mr. Wash when he started to talk again and grinned when he told them they would have the rest of the period off. Jade stood from her seat and stuffed her syllabus inside of her bag, then glanced at Elena when she wondered aloud what they would be doing during the hour. She didn't say that outright, but it wasn't hard to tell. Jade nodded to her and smiled "Yeah, thanks to Wash. I'm thinking I'll go get a coffee." She said, heaving the bag over her shoulder and glanced at Elena "You in??" She asked her curiously as she headed towards the door, her hips swinging wherever she went "Thanks Wash!!!" She called when she was near the door.
Elena's face lit up with happiness when Jade asked if she would like to come along for a coffee. She bobbed her head as she gave a wave to their teacher, "Yes. Coffee sounds perfect," She fell into step with the other, more experienced girl. Elena had said that she wanted to become more social and involved this school year, and she seemed to be headed in the right direction. Perhaps she wouldn't be left out when it came to social functions and parties this year. The year before had been boring, but also safe, this year she was taking risks. Elena opened one of the doors to the outside, other students were flooding out as well from the class. "Thank you, for inviting me to coffee I mean," Elena told Jade politely, her impeccable manners always there.
