Katie (ygraine) | 3 comments I have several books which are omnibus editions of two or more works by one author in which the page numbering starts again from 1 for subsequent books. For example, I have a copy of Sketches by Boz & Hard Times (Odhams, no publication date) which gives Sketches page numbers 1-424 and then Hard Times page numbers 1-320. Is there any way of indicating this, or do I enter the total page count, then have to do some mental maths whenever I enter my current page count when reading the second book?

On the other hand, I have a two volume edition of War and Peace which gives volume 1 page numbers 1-712 and volume 2 page numbers 713-1444. These are separate books with different ISBNs. Is there a convention for entering books like these, or is it going to involve page count based mental maths again?

Just wondering what would be best.

Scott | 8926 comments Yeah I think we just have to rough it. (I'm in the middle of one of these myself; fortunately the first book is exactly 200 pages long!)

Yes.

We'd enter the number of pages for vol. 2 as 1444. Which means you're "50% complete" on about page 10, but at least this sort of multi-volume numbering is uncommon.
