My life was awful. When I was a kid, I was fat, pretty ugly and had awful hair. I used to get teased every flipping day. Slammed up against lockers, punched in the face - you name it. Hell, I had to go to prom with one of my female friends because I couldn’t even get a proper date. I cant even look back at those photos because I look so bad.
I transfered schools, but the teasing just got worse. After a, lets say, “incident” I had with the school play, the bullying just got worse. But I made it through high school, only to find out that real life was pretty much the same. I just stayed in my dark room all day. I didn’t talk to anyone, I didn’t go outside. I just stayed inside and drew. I’d draw vampires, mummies, heroes, villians. Anything to help me escape all the bad in the world.
I went to art school and didn’t really belong. All I could draw was comic book characters. I tried to put my only good talent to use, by drawing a cartoon and pitching it - only to have it turned down. Life to me was just pointless. I started drinking, doing drugs and just generally wasting my life drawing.
Then one day, I saw bodies falling from the sky. I witnessed people dying. And that’s when I decided to turn my life around. I called up anyone I knew who had an instrument and we formed a band. Being on tour for the first few years was bad. All we’d do is get drunk and do drugs, but I loved it. Because I was doing something I loved with people I loved.
And a few years ago I met the most perfect woman ever. It’s like we share a wave link or something. She just knows me, without even knowing me if you understand. And now, 2011. I have a beautiful baby girl, a caring wife and I get to perform for all my adoring fans every day.
I am living proof that no matter how bad life gets, it gets better. I am Gerard Way, and I survived.

"Making a record is a lot like surgery without an anesthetic. You first have to cut yourself up the middle. Then you have to rip out every single organ, every single part and lay them on a table. You then need to examine the parts, and the reality of the situation hits you. You find yourself saying things like "I didn't know that part was so ugly." Or "I better get a professional opinion about that." You go to bed hollow and then back into the operating room the next day. . .facing every fear, every disgusting thing you hate about yourself. Then you pop it all back in, sew yourself shut and perform. . . you perform like your life depended on it----and in those perfect moments you find beauty you never knew existed. You find yourself and you friends all over again, you find something to fight for, something to love. Something to show the world."

“I never expected it to be that easy or cut-and-dry. I mean it’s Gerard. We would have given him a million chances. But he’s very strong. He’s never slipped up. He tried to take Nyquil once and I smacked him.”

“If for one minute you think you're better than a sixteen year old girl in a Green Day t-shirt, you are sorely mistaken. Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. Someone finally understood you. This is what music is about.”

Just because you're scared of doing something doesn't mean you shouldn't. If they didn't do this, then they wouldn't have saved hundreds of people's lives.
“…Like last night, they are not like tremors, they are worse than tremors, they are these terrors. And it’s like, it feels like as if somebody was gripping my throat and squeezing and sometimes I see flames. And sometimes I see people that I love dying and I can’t ever wake up.”
(This isn't from the band, but I thought it described a few of us on the group.)

I don't know if y'all have ever looked up the Japanese translation for the beginning of Party Poison, so here it is:
Everyone! The car has a full tank,
So we're packing the explosives in a suitcase!
Life is short, and there are many dangers
On the roads we travel!
So let's dance!
Everyone! The car has a full tank,
So we're packing the explosives in a suitcase!
Life is short, and there are many dangers
On the roads we travel!
So let's dance!
Are y'all ready where you are?
Are y'all ready where you are?
Are y'all ready where you are?
I'm coming for you now!
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Right now!
Are y'all ready where you are?
Are y'all ready where you are?
I'm coming for you now!
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Right now!
Original post by My Chem announcing their signing to Reprise/Warner in August 2003:
Let this be a declaration and a threat.
This is how I wanted to write this, just having played a show, with everything on fire. My insides, my brain, and in the pit of my heart it burns. There are some things I need to say and there are some things you need to know.
We started this band for ourselves, to bear our souls, purge our own personal demons, and reclaim our innocence. When you are told you are not good enough your entire life sometimes the only thing you can do is scream “FUCK YOU” at the top of your lungs. This band was started and will end with three virtues: Honesty, Sincerity, and Loyalty. You will hear these three words in any interview we give because it is what we stand for. Right now we’re in Detroit, the rock city, and I’ve put this off for too fucking long…something is happening.
There is a change.
Not in music but in ourselves and in you. There are bands that have more to say to you than selling t-shirts from their personal clothing company. So frequently, especially when a band signs to a major label, they say “I want to change music. This is going to be the next Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
This is bullshit.
People cannot change music, its music that changes people. It is bigger than you and me put together. It’s a neutron bomb with the detonator set on “kill” waiting for you to push the button.
This is an evolution and you can be part of the change or stuck eating your own shit on a quest for fire.
About respect:
We were never on an endless search for it, like some Holy Grail or Noah’s fucking Ark. If I wanted respect I would be a father. I would have children and raise them to take care of me when I’m old and hooked up to machines that keep me alive. Music is a message. The message is more important than the messenger. People ask us what we have to say and my answer is to find out for yourself. This is not a copout. If you find out for yourself it means more to you.
About elitism:

Things are about to change for us…for all of us. From the kids who supported us at the start to those that are here now.
We will always be an Eyeball Records band. The support, dedication, and love from that label got us where we are right now - and we did it as a family.
I wanted to be the first to tell you before the gossip and the hearsay, I want to shout it from the street-lamps to the coils, in every fucked up slum, where every seedy club lives and breathes.
We are coming to your town.
We are taking back what’s ours.
We’re all in this together…
And by the way…we’ve signed to Reprise and we are fucking ready for the world to hear us scream.

"There will come a time when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever existed or that our species ever did anything. There will be no one left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this will have been for naught. Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever. There was time before organisms experienced consciousness, and there will be time after. And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to ignore it. God knows that’s what everyone else does."
— John Green
Even though this isn't an MCR quote, I believe it belongs here...
Eventually, MCR may be a thing of our past. They may never get back together, they may never make more music.....
But we can remember them. In this lifetime, we can remember them, never giving up hope that they'll release just one more song.... They've done so much to help all of us, their fans, so we need to return that favor somehow, and remember their legacy.
Never give up. Always be you. If sometimes thinks you should change, give 'em the finger and tell 'em off.
They would want us to remember that we need to remain ourselves and be happy. It may take a while to get back to our regular selves, but it will happen. If MCR never gets back together, we need to be prepared to meet with that and move on.....
Ya.... Now I'm kinda rambling...

Hey guys,
Gerard here... I'm hanging out with Mikey in New Jersey, relaxing, drinking
coffee, talking comics, and getting ready to take a drive down south
tomorrow. I don't know what states I'm passing through but I know where I'm
heading. Don't worry, I've got a the Clockwork Orange audiobook, a Dr.
Pepper air-freshener, and a GPS so I don't get lost. We figured by now
everyone that's a fan of the band might be wondering what we're up to, what
we're planning, so I thought I'd write this letter and fill you all in.
We're living, decompressing- The Black Parade took over two years to tour
and six months to make so that's a lot of existing in a fictional world, and
we're just extremely happy to live in a real one for a while. One thing I
can let you know is that we're excited. Genuinely more excited than we have
ever been to be in this band, make some new music. And we have ALL been
writing new material in our own separate worlds... I started a week after I
got home, buying a good rig, an old Jag, and a bunch of pedals- just
searching for the next sound.
Bob is recovering well from his recent wrist surgery- exceedingly well
considering how risky the procedure can be. We're all really happy that when
he picks up the sticks again he won't be in the intense pain he was in
during the last year of touring. It's going to take him a while to
rehabilitate but knowing him, he will most likely be playing the drums
before the doctor says it's a good idea. He just loves playing, we all do.
Franks on the road with Leathermouth and Reggie and The Full Effect so you
should go see them and get spit on. I know Leathermouth doesn't have a
record out yet, but Frank gave it to me in Mexico and I can easily say it's
my favorite post-hardcore record of the year, so I know you will at least
enjoy the songs if you don't know the words.
One of the best parts of the last five months was getting to see Ray get
married and all of us be a part of the wedding. It was beautiful. I'm not
sure where the happy couple is right now but I am sure wherever they are,
they are really enjoying it. I have never seen him happier in my life. So we
made plans to get together soon and make some demos, see where our heads are
at, take it slow. If explosions happen in our heads right away who knows how
soon we could have a record out, we aren't in any rush but we get just as
anxious as you to find out what the next "thing" is going to be.
So that about wraps it up... I'm glad I could stop by for a chat, I think I
will do it more often. I'm writing more comics, writing more music, and
missing my wife right now. Oh, and I heard a rumor that I died in a car
accident. I didn't.
