We just had a question about the romance in this series and it reminded me of how challenging it is to niche this series. Some bookstores have it in the romance section, others in mystery and some with a leg in both as romantic suspense.

Where does it sit in your mind?

Mary | 208 comments I think I'll go with the romantic suspense, because it may mostly be about the cases Eve is handling and how she solves these murders, but a good portion of the book is about the progress of Eve and Roarke's relationship. So for me the series are definetely a mix of mystery and romance!

Cher (sharpei) | 61 comments After reading the question and then the comments, I suddenly realized that it also could be police procedural/detective attached as well, which leads me to think that this series needs a whole new genre label! Lol.

Now, Cheri, you and I are living in the same place with this series. It occurs to me first as a mystery/police procedural with romantic elements. I think that's why it's landed in the romantic suspense bucket. We should come up with a new genre name....

Ideas anyone?

Cher (sharpei) | 61 comments Romance is secondary and Detective/Mystery/Suspense is first, so, sometimes I think the futuristic aspects could be labeled Science Fiction too. Good gravy! Okay, here goes. Sci-Fi-Future/Mystery/Romance? Or, Sci-Fi-Det/Romance? Future/PP/Romance? Lol-*headdesk*

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments These books are super-hard to classify! They definitely cross genres!

I think I'd go with Futuristic Police-Procedural Suspense Romances. But when I recommend the series, I usually qualify that the futuristic stuff isn't really emphasized... it's more that they just happen to take place in the near future.

But whatever they are, I'm in it for the romance!

Sharon Michael I agree with the hard to classify. My main reading areas are mystery and sci-fi/fantasy and that is what keeps me reading. I am not much of a romance reader and have to admit that I skip a lot of the heavy bedroom scenes ... but the interaction between the characters and the police procedural/mystery with the futuristic touch is what keeps me hooked.

Sharon, I was drawn to the series for the mystery and was surprised (pleasantly) when the romantic elements showed up. I like both but the mystery/police procedural stuff is my main draw.
