To be honest, I really couldn't get into it at first. I was skeptical of the narrative style (a young girl reading letters, emails, and reports regarding the days leading up to the disappearance of her mother). It probably didn't help that I started reading the book on my phone during what ended up being a 2-hour oil change.
But I recently picked the book up and gave it an honest shot. And I fell in love with it.
It's not a perfect book. Some of the characters were so wacky they verged on silly and cliched. But the complexity of the characters and the continuously unexpected journey on which they find themselves captured my imagination.
I very much enjoyed this book.
