You are dead right - I live near Paris. The problem is the same one, but in French. So the next 3 are Dix (10) Onze (11) Douze (12).
I find it interesting, in the few languages that I know a bit about, that 6 and 7 always seem to start with s (six, sept in French, seis, siete in Spanish and sechs, sieben in German). Maybe this is because the s sound is the same in many languages?
Getting a long way from riddles though......

This is rather simple riddle, but I have always liked it.
What time is it when an elephant sits on the fence? (solved)

Ehehe :D So I knew it but I didn't know it at the same time.Curse my lack of general knowledge! They didn't teach French in my tiny private school. I asked my brother to teach my privately but he'd rather I learned Science.
YES moved too far away from riddles now. If anyone cares, I don't yet have an answer to this one
Verity, I heard a similar one in the form of a joke. The answer was 'Time to get a new fence'. :D
You're right, that's the answer!

1. I am like an eagle strutting in a line, my beak before, my eyes behind. What am I?
Answer: a peacock
2. One night, a king and a queen got into a boat. The next morning, three people came out. How is this possible? (Hint: She's NOT pregnant)
Answer: It's a "night" (knight) a king and a queen. Someone already got this right.
3. Inside a castle is a room. Inside the room is a table. On the table are three cups, two of which are full. What is the name of the king?
Answer: King Phillip III ("fill up the third" cup)
4. They call me a man, but I'll never have a wife. They gave me a body, but I'll never have a life. They gave me a mouth, but I'll never take a breath. The water brings me life; the sun brings me death. What am I?
Answer: a snowman. Someone got this one right already
My life can be measured in hours,
I serve by being devoured
Thin I am quick
Fat I am slow
Wind is my foe
What am I?

What starts with a "T" ends with a "T" and has "T" in it?

You know you have good riddles when no one can answer them! :D That being said, I like riddle 2 the best.

I serve by being devoured
Thin I am quick
Fat I am slow
Wind is my foe
What am I?"
a candle

I went to the woods and got it
Then I sat me down and looked for it
I got upset because I couldn't find it
Then I went home with it because I couldn't find it

1. What has a ring but no finger?
2. What has to be broken before it can be used?
3. What is harder to catch the faster you run?

2. Egg
3. A cold/Your breath?"
1. Nice! That works, too, but wasn't what I was looking for. It's a telephone
2. Correct!
3. Your breath. Nice job!

1. You heard me before, yet you hear me again. Then I die, 'till you call me again.
2. Kings and queens may cling to power, and the jester's got his call. But as you may all discover, the common one outranks them all.
3. The more you take, the more you leave behind.

I think that it is a good idea to put these in bold, and thanks to Sami for telling me how!
@Sami - Please don't give the answer yet - I haven't given up!!

First one an echo and second one an ace in a pack of cards?
No idea about the third one yet....

No confidence, but could it be "outside"? It sort of works, but doesn't sound right (got outside?)......or perhaps the sky??

That would be a tick. (Or some other parasite one can pick up in the woods)

Here are some I just came up with on the spot:
Who am I?
am I?
You will never find a single one of me.
What hides every day and dissapears once a month; but lots of people use it to measure time?
God lacks me and mortals always have me. But you might never find me, even if you searched from one end of the world to the other.

Maybe the second one is a twin? 3rd one might be the moon? And the 4th one might be the letter A?

The moon and the letter "A" were correct! But to the other no. (You can find a single twin, if one was lost and never found, one died, one simply isn't there, etc.) sorry. Any ideas for the first?

Yes, and yes. Both guesses are correct

Yep!
Just to change the "discussion" a bit, you may find this interesting, about the "cursed ring" that is supposed to have given Tolkien the idea for LOTR and the Hobbit.....(hope it isn't an April Fool)

Guys, check out my awesome Hobbit Riddles quiz!!! Search: The Hobbit Riddles quiz BTW its really cool!

If you have it you want to share it. If you share it you don't have it. What is it?

sounds like 'a secret' but not sure

Also here is my favorite riddle: I can carry the whole world in my, yet a child can bear my weight, what am I?

or
"I carry the world while a shelf carries me"

In a white petticoat
and a flaming red nose
the taller she is
she shorter she grows
what is it?
I won't give the answer, but my parents used to tell me that one when I was a kid! Here is another old one, that always provokes lots of arguments.
A man was looking at a portrait. When asked "Who's picture is in the portrait" he replies "Brothers and sisters have I none, but this man's father is my father's son".
Who was in the picture?

First they champ,
