Out of the distopian/fantasy/sci fi books that I read (and I read a lot of this genre) I can tell you that they're all basically the same, everyone just rewrites what a previous writer wrote, but overall heres what I think:
I hated the Hunger Games
I read the Maze Runner but it was boring
I love Cornelia Funke's Inkheart series
I love Phillip Pullman's The Golden Compass
Harry Potter doesn't really fit into this category, but just for good measure, I loved the first five books, and hated the last two
I absolutely positively unconditionally love the book Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
I sorta liked the I Am Number Four/Legacy books
I sorta liked Graceling
My friends tell me that Skullduggery Pleasant is a good book, but I haven't gotten around to actually reading it (maybe soon)
Right now I'm reading Everlost(The Skinjacker Trilogy) by Neal Shusterman and so far I like it a lot
