Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Agreed! Honestly, by the end, I was inclined to think that she would rather drown in misery. I think she has this sick obsession with how much worse her life is than anyone else, though she is responsible for most of her misery (outside of the accident itself). I feel bad for Guy, poor lad will be surrounded by darkness unless he moves on.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Yes, poor Guy! He didn't deserve this. He was too nice.

Trisha | 30284 comments Yeah, I think that's probably what I like least about this book

She didn't get help - she just found a band-aid to cover the very obvious issue she has - and her Guy shaped band aid is so very temporary - even we as the reader hope he moves on from her!!

and I hate that her "quick fix" is a guy! Bah! It should be HER that she works to make better...not be better for someone else!

at the end, she will be worse off because when he leaves she will be more devastated and might even try to kill herself.

so, in the end, she never dealt with her problem...and we are left knowing this won't end well...bah, I don't mind sad books but ones that are such downers just seem like they shouldn't be YA.... We should have teens feel like there's hope for an issue like this. Help is out there, healing is possible, etc etc... ya know?

and I always gripe about this, but where was the ending that said "if you or someone you know has problems with cutting or self destructive behavior, here is a help line, link, email"...something to point kids to help if they are reading it and it connects with them...

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I agree that using a guy to deal with problem is not a wise idea. It is temporary. I am not happy with the ending either. I wanted to rate this book 2.5, but half star is not an option so I rounded it up.

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Agreed on all accounts. Definitely a temporary fix, which I hate. I hope that Guy would move on before he starts thinking about it different. If he stayed, don't you think there is a chance of him picking up bad habits? Idk. And, yeah, this should not be a YA book. I am usually the first to support YA books that deal with really hard issues.. But this is crossing the line. Not only did she not get help, the book gives readers the idea that cutting is perfectly OKAY! And encourages outsiders to keep such harmful secrets. I am glad that I do not have kids yet, as I would be furious as a mother that this book was classified at YA.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Yes, this book does send out confusing message. The author should have stated the problems Willow had to face because of her action. So far, it seems like it is no big deal.

Talking about the book being classified as YA, I agree it is not entirely acceptable. It is now getting harder and harder to separate YA, NA and adult books.
